  • Chinese ingress breaching the Line Of Actual Control (LAC) is a yearly phenomenon but this time the size of the PLA troops involved in the standoff is bigger in Ladakh. Amid conflicting media reports-some alleging invasion by the Chinese and others saying this is a seasonal occurrence-in this edition of 'Simply Nitin', StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale tells us why the ground realities are different this time around and how India now has the ability to protect its territorial integrity far more robustly along its Himalayan frontier.

Matching troop number is one thing but the technology gap between the two forces is only widening. Chines have a clear edge in air power and drone warfare, 36 rafaels arent enough to bridge this gap. We dont have an equivalent of the chines rocket force, the chines will fight on their terms using weapons that they have an advantage with. We need to take national security more seriously

India wasn't exactly a pushover in 1962 either - to be clear. It took a lot of political interference and sabotage, garbage politically handpicked higher military leadership, massive inferiority in supplies, ammo, weapons & logistics, and the baffling non-use of a vastly superior Air Force (which would've turned the war on its head) to defeat India. And even then there were some incredible last stands put up by the troops in spite of it all.

Weapons like acquiring additional Chinooks (preferably 15), mass ordering LCH (integrated with Dhruvastra) & Zorawar Light Tanks
Fastracking Artillery Modernisation with a special emphasis on acquiring Shoot & Scoot capabilities in Mountains.
Modernising our Short Range Air Defence Systems like Zu-23-2 along with inducting QRSAM, DRDO MANPADS & Laser Beam Riding Air Defence System
Most importantly upgrading IAFs fighting potential by ordering more Tejas, Upgrading Sukhoi & Mig 29 and successfully concluding a deal for additional Rafale (preferably 54) in next 2 years. Parallely lay emphasis on acquiring 6 Netra Mk1A & 6 Refuellers.

Americans were the ones who made China so powerful by signing the USA China trade deal even before China was inducted into IMF.. India has been dealing with China and warning world about China for decades except when manmohan Singh was PM wherein in politicians were clueless about how to handle China. the speed at which we increased our strength in info China border is phenomenal. We won’t have a war with China and it needs 10 times more military power to attack a country compared to a country that is defending itself form within its border. The real problem that modi government is working on now is to stop Taiwan conquest , moving of more manufacturing out of China to India and becoming bigger economy comparable to China in next 10 to 20 years.

Despite all hulla gulla, there is really no possibility of India China conflict of major scale. Not as security expert, but I say this as merchant. Having known Chinese mindset, Chinese love nothing more than money - it`s almost quasi god for them. with hundreds of billion of trade with India and the balance of trade being in favour of China, the Chinese will not risk losing giant Indian market and flow of hundreds of billion of dollars from India - even for stretagic land grab. Minor skirmishes now and then, killing few hundred soldiers time & again will continue to happen, because Chinese need to display who`s Asian overlord. But full scale war between India and China will not happen and N war is simply out of equation simply because China will risk depopulation with retaliatary strikes. It`s always long game of deception & cunning moves when dealing or fighting with China.
