I went to secondary school with Harry, he was in the year below me. He always seemed really happy, he had a close group of friends who would chat and laugh in the canteen like any other teenager. He fitted in really well at school and everyone just accepted him as another normal teenage boy. It was really nice to see

The second case is unbelievable. She is studying to become a nurse, she realizes that there's something wrong with her esophagus or/and stomach, her husband is a paramedic and they have both visited the same idiot family doctor 200 times about her severe stomach issues...but still no one is thinking about endoscopy?! Sometimes that's so extreme it qualifies as gaslighting, I have experienced that from a doctor. I've had breathing problems and asthma since I was a baby. I had allergic pneumonia, and almost died when I was still a baby.
I went to a doctor that was trying to convince me I was not asthmatic, that I had anxiety, not breathing issues, until I nearly died, the tests were SCREAMING with all positives for many allergies and asthma.
Later on when it almost died, He apologized to me. For changing my medication dosage.
Listen to your body and think of your history.

the thing is, saying "it's all in your head" still shouldn't mean they don't treat you. It makes me so anger when a doctor says "It's just stress" and dismiss physical evidence. O experience for myself several times so I developed two killing sayings:
1- You know about medice, I know about my body, if I'm telling you something it's wrong, believeme.
2- You're a physitian not a psychologist, it's illegal and unethical you "diagnose" stress. If you think I'm having mental health problems you have to referme in writing to a specialist in the field for treatment. If I were having heart problems I wouldn't assume you want play be a cardiologist with me. Why do you feel entitled to be a pop up Freud?
3- In some countries there is a Pacients Rights Law that protect us against paternalistic behaviors from health professionals. If you feel you aren't make yourself heard ask a lawyer what are your options.

it's weird that no doctor at least recognized harry had some sort of progeria. i immediately thought of it, when i saw him. i guess this series is old and maybe back then it wasn't as well-known. i don't know, though.
edit: thinking about it again, i realise it's probably just the dramatic way this show is produced. i guess doctors probably had some clue as to what harry's condition might be, even if they couldn't get to the final conclusion, but it was portrayed differently here so there'd be more tension.

Yeah but that aired 2005. And Harry was born 1999....many doctors mentioned there were from the older Generation and perhaps progeria wasnt taugt in med school back then. Furthermore it is/was soooo rare 30 cases only! also information access and exchange wasnt as advanced as now. You can't always blame the doctors for not pointing out very rare diseases many didnt know back then

What I've learned after watching these videos: Doctors are useless

    • @JillWouters
      @JillWouters Před 3 lety +1

Not all doctors, but yes indeed. It takes too doctors to get on top of a medical situation because they are very quick to dismiss patients with "It's just stress, it's just part of being a woman, it's just all in your head." Etc.
I must say that so far, most of this I see in America. I do not know about other countries.

Why do people not even consider visiting different doctors if there is a health issue and it’s worsening over the time being...?! You have to go to the doctor after the first symptoms immediately!!

Doctors in the US: Keep telling you nothing is wrong, tell you it's all in your head, that you're over-reacting and just to 'learn to live with it'. Oh, what's that...you're dying now? Here, let me give you a referral then. Maybe we'll run some tests and stuff. Maybe.
    ...
Doctors in the UK: Well, I'm not sure what this is...but maybe someone else knows what it is. He's a referral. Let's start testing stuff right away.
