Exactly bc that doctor gets to go home and live a great life but that patient has to go home and still live with whatever is going on with them every second of everyday until they finally find a doctor who will take the time to figure out whats really going on.
Oscar The FunnyDoggo I just have to share this story. I went to the ER at least 20 times within a period of a little over a month because I absolutely knew something was wrong with me. They kept telling me I was having a panic attack. I knew they were wrong. They were just sick of seeing me come in. Something bad was happening to me and I just knew it. So, I went back to the ER one last time, and demanded every test I could get. Turns out, I had sepsis! If I would have listened to them and stayed home, I’d be dead! It’s like these ER doctors just want to get you in and out and out of the way! It’s ridiculous!
That's because they are uneducated and don't know, my husbands doctor is one of them, so they just push the pills on you
@Nobody Knows there really isn't. Sure, there's *some* (definitely not in a hundreds-to-one ratio), but there are millions of people dead because doctors went "well have you considered you're faking it" to people who were dying of cancer or infection or chronic illness.
It's especially true for women who are dismissed as having period pains and it turns out to be appendicitis, or told they need to lose weight and it turns out they have cancer, or told they just have anxiety and it turns out to be a heart problem. Men die because they won't get help, and women die because they can't.
If anything, this show being full of people who are sent away with no help time and time again shows how easy it is to slip through the cracks and be left, effectively, to die.
The woman in first story went trough so much for so long, I'm so glad she is now cured.
Local Hobo sometimes it could take yrs before someone figures something out other times u never know .
My mother died from the same tumour, it wasn't found till 6 weeks before she died. She had been sick for over 4yrs with dramatic weight loss and tremors. She was under the care of an endocrine specialist but they still missed it until it was the size of a grapefruit and metastasised throughout her whole body. Even a specialist missed it, later they said it was extremely slow growing and could have been there for up to 10yrs. She was not one to complain and to this day I know that's what killed her. If you don't agree with a diagnosis fight to find someone who will look harder, it could save your life. Don't believe everything you're told just because they're doctors, if it doesn't feel right keep searching, quite often they're wrong.

Misdiagnosis in Melinda’s case is so unforgivable. An MRI is a must if one has unbearable headaches. I still cannot understand how they missed this. Totally unacceptable!
My mother died from the same tumour they only found it 6 weeks before she died. She had been wasting away for over 4yrs and had been treated by an endocrine specialist the whole time and they still managed to miss it. We were told it's slow growing so had been present from the start but it was so rare they just didn't think of it. Only at the time and it had metastasised and was the size of a grapefruit did it become apparent and it was her blood test that made them look. If her bloods hadn't gone haywire they would have only found it on autopsy. Moral of the story is don't always believe doctors even specialists, they can be wrong. If you're not happy with a diagnosis or have doubts get a second or third opinion. Whatever it takes, keep complaining, it could save your life.
It may not be "missing the point".. it may be to lower the cost burden on the insurance system in exchange of the life of the patient.. let them live or die, just dont lose money(=power!)

It's because she's a woman. Every time a woman comes to the doctor with pain, she'll be told it's either stress related, it's hormons, or she's attention seeker.
The majority of those mysterious diagnoses are women not being listened to.
What spouse leaves you just because you are getting sick. That's unbelievable. Glad she found a better man. As well as a better doctor.

Statistically, when a spouse gets sick, women are more likely to quit work and care for their partners. Men are more likely to divorce their spouse. Especially when it's cancer.
He stayed with her until she was going into violent rages . Her children even stayed away because of her violence. He was with her for YEARS. He didn’t dump her at the first sign of sickness. I would never put up with violent behavior , take the kids and SPLIT!
With that history of headaches, why didn't they order an MRI, CT scan, and X-ray from the start? She should have had the GP get her a referral to a neurologist.

Really weird, right? I think it depends on the system you're in. I live in the hometown of the Mayo Clinic and often have the opposite problem, they order way too many tests for the smallest of things XD
My daughter was 10 when she was diagnosed with a pheochromocytoma. Doctors released her twice from the hospital with abnormal labs and high blood pressure and heart rate. Her primary care accused me of not feeding her and told me to give her ensure. She ended up in critical condition with bp of 195/136 and pulse 170. Airlifted. I had to watch my little girl suffer with severe headaches and excessive sweating. She was 67 pounds when she was airlifted. No muscle left. They removed her tumor after two months of bp meds etc. She finally was able to gain weight. But the tumor damaged her heart, she has one adrenal gland, and hypothyroidism for 4 years after. She really hasn't been the same since. It was traumatic for all of us. NIH in DC has experts and we found out a lot more after seeing them. First thing they asked was which hospital sent her home with blood pressure 8 months prior to almost dying from the pheo.

I'm a physician myself and I always try to listen to patients opinions, after all, who knows their body best? If you feel something is seriously wrong, fight for an answer! never give up, we as doctors may not always have the answer but we sure can guide you to someone who does.

Stasia M EPP is exactly what he has. In EPP, whenever a child goes outside whenever the sun is out, there skin has an allergic reaction. That means that the little boy is allergic to the sun
Having been in this Mystery Diagnosis hole for most of quarantine now, it amazes me how little it amazes me that the majority of episodes involve women being told they're being crazy about their symptoms or their infant's. 🙄

Really, you needn't be afraid. Unless, that is, you are afraid to cross the street or climb the stairs. It's much more likely to get hit by a car or stumble and break your neck on the stairs (or in the shower) than to get one of these extremely rare illnesses. They are in this show because of how unlikely it is to get them.

Doctors that dismiss symptoms make me so upset. I had a nurse tell me that my heart attack like symptoms were because of my anxiety and I was getting acid reflux because of it. When I insisted on getting blood work done they found out that I had a severe vitamin d deficiency. I was supposed to be at a 50 but I was at an 11.
Had this exact issue, except no heart attack symtpoms. My doctor told me outright I didn't need to be tested for vitamin D and she did not want to do, and then, low and behold, it's my problem!
I will repeatedly say this, doctors who dismiss symptoms should NOT be doctors - period. If you can't take your patients seriously, why are you even in this field?
i had zero symptoms at all, but thankfully as part of the place iam going, because iam skitzofranic, they had blood work done twice a year, to monitor us, found out i was lacking b12, but severely lack vitamin d, to the point, i had to see a doctor and get shots for a week and then eat 6 pills a day, besides the 3 pills for b12, today iam down to 2 pills a day, one vitamin d and one for b12

It's so sad, you'd think she'd understand it wasn't her mother's fault! She should resent her father, for not picking up the household chores :/ what kind of father dumps that on their 8 year old daughter?
@@jadephillips2505 she has childhood trauma, children don't understand that it's not their parents fault. Just because she now understands her mom was sick, years of abandonment is still there.

I had the same thought, but then, what do we know? They might as well have been about to divorce when her symptoms started, and he then only stayed with her because of how ill she was. Also, since she worked whenever she could, they probably didn't have too much money... so he'd have had to work twice as much to make ends meet. It's much too easy to blame people we don't know. Only ones I really blame are those lazy-ass doctors who dismiss suffering patients, claiming that "it's just stress".
I feel so bad for Malinda... 16 years of pure agony and no one could help her...
Her story reminded me of my battle with severe anxiety disorder and panic attacks for 20 years all because the first doctor I opened up to, basically told me I was an idiot and just imagining my symptoms (panic attacks, which I had no idea what they even were at the time). So I shut down and lost all hope in doctors and, like Malinda, also thought I was just crazy. While I spent years living in actual hell of my own mind, thankfully, psychiatry and psychology became more prevalent in my country and when I finally gathered all my courage to reach out for help again, I finally met someone who genuinely wanted to treat my condition. It’s awful when the doctors are so dismissive...

They always say “it’s JUST anxiety” as well. Anxiety is very real and it matters.
I love these shows because they apply to me. I was in the Army. I had a 400 lbs towbar drop on my head. The doctors said there was no reason for my back pain (in spite of me saying that when it happened, I heard and felt 5 pops in my lower back). I begged for them to run an MRI or a Doppler. Finally, I got back to the US, and they did just that. I am now 100% DAV.
The whole time, I was thinking the second person was allergic to the sun. Every time his limbs were exposed to the sunlight for more than a few minutes at a time he had heat blisters and when he went up north he was completely fine. My heart goes out to any parent who has to hear their child scream like that.

I keep hearing in this programme, the doctors didn't listen. How disgusting to be dismissed time and time again. Why why why don't they hear us. People are not crazy. For gosh saKes doctors LISTEN!!! We are not all embellishing and making things up!!!
The first thing I learned from this series, is that most doctors are A-holes. The second thing is that pretty much all doctors from India are awesome.
Even if someone does have a psychiatric condition, it doesn’t mean that *everything* is about that (it was hard to get the right treatment for my dad). I have a host of awful health problems & the *worst* thing that you can possibly be is a “problem” patient. They HATE IT when they don’t know what to do or how to treat you so they decide there’s nothing wrong with you. That way it’s not possible for them to help & they’re not at fault/bad doctors

The feeling of being told it's all in your head is just so enraging. I want to tell doctors like that that if it's all in my head, then I wish it on them so they can feel what I'm feeling. Then tell me if it's all in my head or not.
@NorthWest Gaming no, she went to at least two in the beginning, one said she was fine, the other said it was a woman thing. After that, she wouldn't see a doctor.
I went to school with Natasha when I lived in Virginia with my dad n step mom! I remember how sick her mom was n the fits of anger bc of the pain! We usually played out side or at my house so we wouldn't disturb her mom when she was sick!! I'm so glad she finally got help!! 💞💞💞 I miss Natasha she was one of my best friends!!
Sick or not she still seemed like an abusive parent to me... I understand you had too much adrenaline but that's no reason for her to abuse her kids physically or even come close to it. And the fact that Natasha had to take care of her whole family at such a young age all thoseyears is so sad..

I have been going through a mystery diagnosis for 2 years. It's ruining my life and with little to no family or friends has left me completely broke and broken as a person.
These people are telling the truth DOCTORS DONT LISTEN AND ACTUALLY DO THIS. I've been to over probably 13 specialists and have to be admitted to ER bc my body goes into shock at least 2 times every few months.
It's so scary to think you're going to die bc someone who doesn't care dedicated their career to a field of "caring" for others 😭

My mom has lived a life like the nice first lady. She has completely crippling migraines nearly every day. I had to help raise my own brother and help my grandma (who also lives with us) run the house with 7 people in it.
I'm 20 now, and my mom still lives like this. She's has regular visits to doctors to get help with her migraines, and has never seemed to have any sort of tumor on her kidney, or have that addressed. I really hope that my mom gets an answer someday too.
Send her to a specialized pain clinic and have her checked for cluster headache and related disorders. My husband was diagnosed with migraines but they weren‘t. He has cluster in combination with chronic paroxysmal hemicrania.
Has she ever had her Diath pierced. I know 2 people who suffered for decades and this pretty much cured them. All based arounfd it being a pressure point apparently... Worth a try!

@Nobody Knows Sounds like an attempt at justification for the person leaving. Every situation is different, however having lived in the chronic pain world this is pretty common unfortunately. The exception to the rule are the men and women who stay. I am also not saying that there are plenty of situations where the partner is justified in leaving. I suppose it's a bit of a touchy subject and I am far more reasonable some times more than others.
I hope all the doctors are like Dr. Mark Sussman and Dr. Steve Stavrellis who know how to acknowledge their limitations saying he doesn't know what it is but willing to help her to find out the cause of the illness and spending some time to research and go to the library to find out the answer instead of saying that you are perfectly normal and you are just stressed or your child is only allergic to the detergent and he will be fine
Within the first set of symptoms i knew she either had addisons or adrenal tumor. How is it that someone with a simple pathology degree can sniff out a diagnosis quicker than many doctors. Seriously...one has to question medical school training that so many doctors had no clue. The cost of a scan outweighs all other costs if symptoms dont resolve within 1 to 3 months. Sometimes you have to question whats sicker, patients or the insurance system. The number of times i have paid out of pocket for imaging outside insurance - its always been worth the long term outcomes.
Common Diagnosis in these episodes is doctors dont care enough and shrug things off way too often
Jeez, I think I have found my mystery diagnosis. The sun thing - really awful condition. I barely go out without some clothing over my arms and legs. Because it causes me so much pain for my whole life. Last summer I was for two months covered in red swolen painful and itchy splotches. It was just awful, I cried from pain and itchiness and had such a little of sleep because of it. Three years ago I was on five day rafting trip and I was red from head to toe from the first day. I came back home, all swolen, I had totally purple and blistered insteps, I had to sleep with cold wet towel covering my blistered body, it was just imposible to soothe the pain. At 7th grade I was on trip with my class and was everything covered but I had a fedora and my ears stuck out. When I came back I saw my ears in the mirror and there was literaly big blisters full of fluid all over the top portion of my ears. I mean just... Wow, it's a real condition to be "alergic" to the sun this way.
Talk to you’re doctor about it so you can find a way to treat it 💕

I found that you know your body and you know if something's wrong. Don't let doctors dismiss you an take your money just to tell you your fine wen you know your not.
My dad developed EPP (or something similar?) as a weird side effect from an antifungal drug. Luckily we live in a cold climate and his job lets him spend all day inside, but he does have a lengthy commute, and literally has to wear gloves in the summer because too much sun comes in through the windshield.

I knew it was the sun that was the issue for Craig! I am allergic to sunlight, and get hives on any exposed area if I'm outside for more than 10 minutes (only in late Spring and Summer though). I realized right away that it was happening when he was exposed to sunlight. If you don't have this issue though, the sun would probably never be something that you even give a second thought to.
My mother died from an adrenal tumour, she just wasted away with terrible tremors. She wasted away over about 4yrs but wasn't diagnosed till 6 weeks before her death. She was seeing an endocrine specialist but it was missed till it was too late. By the time they found it , it was the size of a grapefruit. If something doesn't seem right keep pressing the issue, it could save your life.
The funny thing about the first one is that the first doctors were right, just not in the correct way. It was stress, but it was not because of her or her life. But indeed it was stress.
not realy, the stres was a symptome, not the cause.
I wish i could find a Dr like that. I relate to all of this so much.
Get a CT scan
Have had many, MRI's, xrays, ultrasounds. My tumours only show up on ultrasounds. My condition is called dercums disease, in the top 10 most rare and painful diseases in the world. Am a 1 in a million, which makes it very hard to find a dr who has heard of it and willing to see me. Im too complicated of a case. its not an immediate life threatening illness it just feels like we are slowly dying until majority of us die from heart failure cause the body can only fight for so long. But im stubborn and wont stop until i find at least a treatment if not a cure. I accepted this life 3 years ago after 5 years of a deep depression. Changed everything, thou i suffer i can still laugh and be happy. The moment you give in you die. Im so lucky to have an amazing family and friends. If it wasnt for them i would have ended it a long time ago.
@@djjasperfox2194 Oh, I thought you had the same condition and had trouble being diagnosed. It's really great what you're doing and that you're not giving up and being determined, not everyone could handle that. It's heartbreaking how the healthcare system treats people like you...

These doctors who just dismiss their patients should have their licence suspended for a year, and then if they wanna practice again and have their licence back they should have to go to medical school for a year after that, in which they learn to do their jobs and not dismiss peoole like that. Basically losing 2 years of practice as a result.

In the summer of 2016 I had very strange abdominal pains. I would wake up in the morning with a tiny pinching sensation, that felt very deep in my abdomen. Within a few hours I felt like I had a walnut stuck in my abdomen, follow a few more hours it would feel the size of a baseball and eventually the entire right side from my hip to my ribs. My abdomen would clench up and by the end of the day. When I got home from work I couldn't walk and could barely sit up. I would be sitting on the couch squirming, trying to find a comfortable position to sit in with no help. I would go to sleep, wake up the next morning and the pain would be gone, but then within an hour of getting out of bed it would start all over again. It went on all summer. I had 1 or 2 CT scans done, an ultrasound, blood tests. I was about to start my senior year of college and was worried how this painful routine would effect me in school. Crazy enough though, within a week of the semester starting the entire rotation of pain completely disappeared. I waited for a week, anticipating that something would come back, but no. I waited another week, no. It just stopped. I havent experienced any pain like that since. I never figured out what it was, why it started or stopped. I'm glad its over though.
I'm seeing lots of stories about headaches and I'm getting worried. Iv sufferd with headaches now for 10 years, it took docs 8 years for them to even care but as they started to care I had a spin injury were I nearly ended up paralysed so went back to not caring. All I get told now is "if it was anything serious you will be dead by now" like what. Iv now give up. My headaches knock me really sick when I get a bad one but it's not a normal headache. I have to put my head low and rest. They have even had me bed bound for few days at a time. Coping now with all the painkillers I pop.
Petrified is the *perfect* word for it. That scream makes your brain freeze, like you can *not* think 😩😩😩

I’d be mad too, she didn’t try to solve the problem much over many years, didn’t try to advocate for herself repeatedly. And that might be selfish of me to say but she was rather selfish to the people around her.

Why do they always say “ten toes ten fingers” I can’t
(My opinion) because they look for abnormalities that are easy to spot. Ten fingers ten toes not many people have more or less than that. Most everyone wants their "perfect" and healthy baby.

Malinda’s daughter is very angry - not necessarily towards her mum, but possibly towards life and how unfair it’s been to her and her mum. She needs therapy and a million hugs.
I suffer from chronic migraines I’ve had them for 37 years and it’s a daily thing for me, I’ve also sweated for no reason
And it's amazing what a community will do... for a football player. If Craig were in the marching band, you can bet every home game would be in the heat of the day and he'd have to stay home and not play with his friends.

Lily Xero Try to get a prescription for sumatriptan. It has helped me with my own clusters! I know that because they’re rare, docs may not know what to do/may not listen. It took me years to find the prescription that worked. I hope, though, that this helps you with your symptoms!

Glaucoma should be on mystery diagnosis because it can be hard to diagnose at times. It's called the sneak thief of sight because alot of people don't know they have it until they lost alot of sight. The only way to find glaucoma is through an eye exam. I have had glaucoma since I was 9 years old. It was a complication of my cataract surgery.

My moms doctor blew my mom off over and over went she went to him about horrible headaches. She ended up collapsing one evening. My brother took her to the hospital and a C-scan Showed.a Brain tumour . She was dead in 6 weeks. I keep thinking if only the doctor had done something earlier 😢
almost every story follows the same "X can't help but wonder why no doctor noticed it" and the expert in the relevant field explains either "it looks like a lot of other things" or "its incredibly rare and I haven't seen a case for twenty years", which is sort of understandable, but then there's a lot of "woman doesn't get listened to" which is ridiculous

@Nobody Knows I've had migraines since I was 19, and no one had ever prescribed me narcotics. They are actually not helpful at all with migraines unless you are in an acute care setting.
People think a diagnosis makes things easier , that’s only true if there is a cure . I have rsd/CRPS no cure no treatment and pain so bad people with this condition often take their own life to end their agony
