Everyone of those people were lucky enough to live during the best time the earth will ever have! I'm thankful to have been a small part of that era as well.
I love watching these clips. I was on the price is right roughly 24 years ago when Bob Barker and Rod Roddy were still on. Rod was great at warming up the audience before the show got started. I didn’t know that he was the opening voice for the sitcom “Soap” which was a great show. It was interesting to see how everything ran. Too bad I wasn’t called to “Come on down!” But it was a good time and great memory
He was the only next best to Johnny Olson. For those who don't know, Johnny Olson was the original announcer of the Price Is Right, the man behind the "COME ON DOWN!!" phrase who sadly died on October 12, 1985 after complications from a stroke. RIP Johnny Olson, Rod Rolly, & Bob Barker you 3 were The Price Is Right.
To me, Rod will always be the voice of Price is Right. Johnny Olson was the best to ever do the job overall, but I always associate him with Match Game - I actually thought his chemistry was better with Gene Rayburn than it was with Bob. Rod and Bob clicked right from the very beginning and complemented one another perfectly.
That's interesting, since Bob was very close with Johnny Olson, and quite personally affected by his passing - while relationship with Rod wasn't nearly as casual; it was quite purely professional. His banter with Johnny was practically non-stop throughout their entire TPIR time together. With Rod, there were still occasional humorous exchanges. Bob also had high personal regard for Rich Field, who succeeded Rod after his passing. Rich, as many know, was very inspired by Johnny Olson.
Rod Roddy is wonderful. But Johnny Olson is the greatest announcer of The Price is Right (if not greatest of all game shows) - I think even Rod himself would vouch for that!
It’s clear that Bob DIDN’T want to relinquish his microphone to Syd, yet here was Syd, taking the microphone and flapping his gums about some nonsense. Bob Barker was too much of a professional to not give up his microphone, while Syd was too much of an a$$ to not see that nobody was interested in what he had to say.
Despite Rod Roddy's death from cancer in 2003, he continued to parodied posthumously in _MADtv_ throughout the next couple years (2004-05) with settings in 1977, 1986, "1134 B.C." and finally, with a Muslim "Death to America" theme.
Yes, but there was a goof up as Johnny Olson was the original announcer up until his death in 1985, and Rod didn't become the show's announcer until 1986.
@@shaneomacdaddy It's like MADtv's universe was unaware of Rich Fields succeeding Rod Roddy in 2004 and somehow insisted that Rod was still alive and still the _TPIR_ announcer
Season 32 Premiere of The Price is Right. Air Date Monday September 22nd, 2003. 35 days prior Rod Roddy lost battle male breast colon cancer. He was 66 years old and passed away Monday October 27th, 2003. Final week of late October 27th thru 31st Burton Richardson was interim announcer. Then Randy West beginning November 3rd 2003.
@@Limegreenedragon you’re correct but he did it in 1985 when johnny olson passed away. Then they had Bob Hilton audition until Rod Roddy finally stepped in permanently on February 17, 1986. W hen he passed, Burton Richardson auditioned, Randy West auditioned, and so did a fellow by the name of Daniel Rosen. Then Rich Fields auditioned and he finally got the job permanently. well, until Mike Richards fired him in 2009. Boy did that suck. Now George Gray is the announcer and I’m sorry to say it but he sucks. By the way, Rich Fields now has the podium that johnny and Rod stood at.

Sid Vinnedge was the producer of Wordplay, Tom Kennedy's final game show to make it to air (he would host a couple of pilots before retiring in 1989). Tom Kennedy hosted the nighttime Price is Right the previous year, during which Rod Roddy debuted on both versions.
Syd Vinnedge, also, was the man who took over for Bob Barker as the executive producer for TPIR when Drew Carey became the host in 2007 for two seasons.

Rod Roddy was battling colon, prostate & breast cancer. He is missed greatly.
sadly that was too much to overcome.
so true well said we miss him and Johhny and now Bob.
He was such a big part of my childhood sick days watching the Price is Right!
When they showed the brief glimpse of Rod Roddy, you could tell he was sick.

He did back in 1977.
Back in the early 60's, Rod Roddy was a DJ at KQV, which at the time was THE Top 40 radio station in Pittsburgh.

Sadly Rod Roddy passed away not much after from this dreadful disease called cancer.
3:07 Rod Roddy's Final Appearance on camera!
Poor guy. He looked so sick and older than his age due to the cancer treatments
He looked really sick
And he looked too skinny, hoarse and pretty much done for after his cancer spread through his body

I had no idea Rod was ill when I originally watched this. He certainly didn't look it.
He had been battling both colon and breast cancer on and off for two years at this point.
@@DorvellTStewart And prostate cancer as well.
Really? Didn’t know that.
Burton Richardson should've replaced Rod Roddy since he helped out with the show many times during Rod's absences
Agreed, although Richfield’s wasn’t the worst choice in terms of rods successor; that title, had he been named as such, belong to Daniel Rosen.

Supposed to be a moment for Rod, but instead the execs hog the stage.
Bob Barker outlived two of his emcees during his tenure on this show. Then he joined the 99 club.
