For this video, we hop in the notorious combination of the GM based LS motor into a small Japanese platform like the Nissan 240sx. It's stanced out for the track and is without the traditional sr20- but is it overall cheap for power? Is it balanced? How fast is it? Let's find out.

UPDATE: Sorry about the fly by being upside down, must have happened during export. Thanks for your understanding.
ThatDudeinBlue not gonna lie my phone was on a table and I check to make sure the screen was still flipped the right way haha
I thought it was cool
ThatDudeinBlue "Should have gone LS". David: "YOU TAKE THAT BACK"
ThatDudeinBlue I thought my phone had flipped upside down for some reason, all good blue
TheCarGuy14 David you should go 2j. David: Hell Yeah !!
To everyone talking about how "The LS motor is junk" "2Jz and RB make more power" blah blah blah. I have a 2JZGTE swapped IS300. This isn't opinion, it's fact. The LS motor makes more power, is lighter, generally costs the same etc. That's why these swaps are so common in racecars. Dollar per horsepower and ease of doing it wins races, not internet opinions about what's cooler. LS Cars are the fastest cars per dollar spent.
That Mellow Guy to be honest, people who swap their car with an ls it's just smart it's lighter, parts are readily available and for the most part cheaper for you guys, American. The same reason why people swap 2jz and an RB on their Mustang and BMW in my country
Yeah but by a corvette and fix it up for the racetrack, why buy something else and swap an LS into it?
because japanese cars are usually better platforms
@@jeffk464 lighter by far. Makes for a faster track car at the same power
@REEL SIXX also just a preference thing. I like the size of the 240sx more
To each his own, but I can tell there's going to be an onslaught of LS haters soon. Pretty mad swap tho, If you just want to go pure Bang for Buck, LS swaps are the way to go.
Ethyn I mean roadkill kinda proved junkyard power stroke turbo is the way to go
Haha, yeah, but that in a lightweight FR car would kill handling.
only in america, cheaper anywhere else ? Fuck no
it doesn't kill the handling at all. in this case, it adds almost zero weight.
Ethyn you can gain horsepower easy in a budget as well
All LS motors should have come from the factory with the intake manifold painted like the American flag. Awesome!
"It drives incredibly smooth." *camera shaking so hard shit gonna fall off the mount*
meant it aint sputterinnnn
Sometimes I miss the simplicity of having an LS in my drift car, but as soon as that wastegate opens on the 2JZ I forget all about it :)
MotionAutoTv Trevor! Your ls was cool, but I definitely like the 2j as well. You can't beat the sound of a straight 6.
BWAAAAAAAH!!!! SUTUTUTU!!
More datsun plz Trevor :3
More sand videos please
Thats why i think too mush on swaping my rb25 por an os it because it sound and fin so great!, fue only reason why i want a swap is because lowend torque and reliability im afraid to go crazy on my rb
Thanks for watching guys!
What do you guys think of the LS swap in general?
ThatDudeinBlue the flyby clip at 5:48 is upside down
younes lahyani Lmaoooo
poop
Hell ya Jacob car is awesome. Glad to see one from NC
I think it's great. Looking forward to completing my LSA swap in my s13 hatch.
People talking about the LS being heavier, it being unreliable, it being a "pork of an engine". Please, if you have no knowledge on engines, don't comment. And here are my two cents: in the USM we got the 240sx (all generations) with the KA, which to nobody's surprise is just a slug. And I hope you know, if you're commenting in this video, that the KA is pretty much a revised truck engine. Now the LS is the most reliable, hassle-free (for the most part), engine swap you could do to the 240sx. Or even in general to be quite honest. Keeps the weight distribution pretty close to stock, as it does not weight much more than a KA. Now I don't belive "LS swapping" should be the answer to it all. I don't belive an s2000 should be LS swapped when the F20/22 are more than capable. But again, just my thoughts in the situation.
LS weighs less than a KA from the specs I've seen lmao
“ I don't belive an s2000 should be LS swapped when the F20/22 are more than capable.”
The issue with the F20/22 is that it needs forced induction if you want to get anything more from it. If you want to stay naturally aspirated, swapping is your only choice.
@@matthewstorm5188 I agree man. The LS/S-chassis engines are absolutely out of line, and if I can put out my input on it, 240sx are LHD and S-chassis are RHD. Anyone has to remember that fundamental. So difficult to make an American V8 convert to an RHD chassis and vice versa engineering-wise. Other than that, whether it is the s-chassis big turbo engines such as 2jz's or the LS LHD chassis engine, they have very different feels (NA and Turbo, Linear and Top End power curves). If you make it very textbook and understand what you want and need, both are so viable but always remember, LS's you can buy em new. Nothing like more displacement. It's built for it. Expect to rebuild your 800hp LS after 3 years to make sure, when you SR's gonna be crying for one after a summer. It's how mechanic is. It's more often not about capability but character that people choose, and it's quite fine. But people, I think, have more of a problem of understanding their wants than their needs.
I'm not an LS hater and agree that it's got to be the most practical swap for many different applications but it gets so old. Badass car none the less
John Smith now it's the LS, before that it was the small block Chevy, before that it was the flat head ford. People get bored of the mainstream but don't understand why it's done.
SideWayz Moose I totally get it but I personally prefer builds that keep the stock powertrain
It only gets old on youtube. But 1000hp cars get old on youtube.
John Smith Turbo KA's and SR's are old for fucks sake
IDC what engine you stick in it 240s themselves are old as fuck move on to another platform. Nearly any platform can be good and easy to work on if enough people start working on them and the aftermarket picks up on it. Problem is we will not get that many really good platform cars anymore because there is to much passenger safety bullshit in the way making the cars bloated hippos of a car full of computers and other useless shit. The MX-5 and the BRZ/GT86 are really the only thing we have for modern tuner/hotrod platforms. I mean I like the new Camaro Mustang and Challenger but they are all heavy as fuck. A performance car should not weight 3,800lbs or more. You don't need an infotanment fuck twat system in your performance car. If you have any of these cars then you have a fucking smart phone with GPS, you don't need 200+lbs of computers and screens in the car doing the same fucking job as your 2 oz cell phone.
Sorry this was meant to be just the first sentence but yeah......rant...
Perfect car.
I cant believe you reviewed this car! I talked to this guy after he finished wiring it until 3am to make it to cars and coffee! He let me sit in it too bc i was looking for bucket seats and it had no dash at the time! super cool!
CTS-V brakes, cheap, powerful and reliable engine, wide tires, and an awesome chassis. I see no problems here.
ThatDudeinBlue yes thank you for using Crystal Skies again Ik Britain, and I love to see the whole circle come around ❤️
When there's a 5 minute Ad but you don't skip it because David is the best.
I can dig it. Glad to see a racing related 240 build vs the standard drifting related build.
We must provide the world with a proper engine LSswap the world :)
literally have goosebumps that thing sounds so good
Is an LS swap the best swap of all?
Wait, is that even a question...?
Hahaha! You know I'm biased, but this video makes me happy.
JAX HEMI swap is best swap.
Ohhhhh... Is that why everyone is swapping Hemis into everything.
Oh, wait...
:-)
David that shot with the car idling with that cam was awesome. My brain was confused.
I agree it definitely is a great swap. The sound, feeling and simple fact of performance per dollar are just do damn good to pass up. Spot on agree with the notion that it drives like a lightened xtreme corvette. Having driven many fbodies and corvettes and owning an s14, I think its accurate.
Perfect intro, not to long and not too short
This is one of my dream builds…it will be my first project but it seems so fun
Maybe this dude likes imports and muscle cars. Kind of just put the best of both worlds into one. And I see nothing wrong with that. Great video!
I love all cars but love the simplicity of ls engines! Clean build
Thanks ! It's now parted out and funding my FD Rx7.
I know a guy with one of these. (Silvia, cathedral port 1000hp turbo LS). Whew. What a beast. I asked him to put an LS/Tremec in my minitruck.
Great video your my favorite CZcamsr I watch your videos everyday
Thanks for the review David!
JTeague223 omg, get over yourself :*
That's one of the best sounding LS engines I've heard.
I did an auto-cross with the owner of this car and it is one of the coolest s13's i have ever seen or heard
I like the intake manifold paint job. Not a bad sileighty
Great review. Seein these cars with ls swaps kinda want to do that to my 86 If anything were to happen to the engine.
I LS swapped my C6 Corvette and it turned out AWESOME! It had some crappy 427 ci motor in it, but I found an LS2 engine and put that in it. It's almost as if it was made for the car, it was so easy! Anyone know where I can find some cheap CTS-V brakes for it?
Although my dream 240SX would have an SR20, I've got respect for this LS Swapped car. Is an LS swap common? Yes. There's a reason for that: the LS is a great motor.
I'll admit it: my dream garage would have both a Corvette and 240SX. I'm a wee bit biased.
I have to say the LS and 2jz swap are definitely the 2 most done swaps!
The american pushrod V8 has it's advantages. My Van has a small block 350 which is super easy to find parts for, one of the main reasions I chose it.
I want to say that it would be awesome to cruise around with you man, you seem like a fun guy to chill with, and I really enjoy your videos. I have weird curiosity obsession with a mid late 90's Nissan 200sx/Sentra.... I can't find a legit review not like yours. Can you find one and do a review on one please??? I want to get into rallying soon and I want check them out.. great videos thanks man.
Like a 96+ model
that car looks like its so much fun!
Treats On The Streets it sure is man! I love it
Cool video. Kinda gave me some inspiration to get mine done haha.
I'll take it! Looks amazing.
She’s singing, and every time you shift she’s taking a deep breathe 😍
Car looks amazing and sounds amazing too.
Wow great build!
I have always wanted to build one of these!
Its sick seeing cars from my area
have you ever been up there at panoz? i get a kick out of trying to find out what roads your on during these reviews cause i grew up out there. next time your out check out wheeler road its got some nice turns on it and not much traffic. its off of 124 before 211 and flowery branch
upside down shot was the best ;)
Silvia front bumper on a 240sx (or sileighty mod) is kind of a rare thing now. Are s13 Silvia bumpers still cheaper than 180/240 bumper in 2017?
Hey David I'm going to be around Atlanta this Wednesday you could review my 1995 f150 if you want I've done some mods to it. It's not lifted or anything like that so it's fun to drive but I'm sure you have a lot better things to review I thought I put it out there just in case.
sounds SOOOO GOOD
My dream build!!!
"It's all gravy from there"😂😂 idk why I found that so funny.
Oh boy here we go
Whoever owns this car is a real man
still better than ls swapping an rx7
Boohoo. I would ls swap an rx7 and drink hater tears through a straw.
LS SWAP EVERYTHING!
Been a while since holden made a v8, like 1997, after that they used the American ls crate motors. Do miss the sound of the Actual holden v8's though
I got the 999th like! Great review! Cant wait to seem those rolling shot of the m3! 😍
How's the fuel economy with an average LS1 ? I know that if you're swapping to an LS, fuel economy prooooobably isn't your main concern, but as someone who's considering daily'ing an LS swapped 240.
As I understand, LS swapped 240s generally do no worse than stock 240s. Sometimes even better, at least on the highway.
Everyone getting butt hurt over someone else's car 😂🤦🏽♂️
Pretty sure Ive seen this car on Peters Creek Parkway..prob going to the local autox. Sounds so good.
Josh C yup i bet you have!
5:51 I think david forgot to flip that clip
awesome build
Joel Gratton thanks man!
Been waiting to see an LS 240.
Nice vid.
Im in love with this car I NEED IT
Gads the initail g thanks man!!
I've seen that setup for a lot of drift 240s. Pretty strange when that big sound comes from that car. lol
Wow another LS swap how unique and challenging. Not like I haven't seen thousands of these.
Ghost Productions how fasts your keyboard around a track then
that is the best sound a car could ever make
Nissan producing the S13 with a 4 cylinder iron truck motor, no one bats an eye. Swap in a cost effective, aluminum, low maintenance, efficient motor, everyone looses their shit.
That ironingboard on the trunk tho!
Issa sileighty bro, how can you not love it...and it’s ls swapped🤪
LS-swapped 240s ftw!
bru LS swapped silfourty is like my dream car
its really sweet for a v8 i just hate the spoiler.looks nice.
Guess im swapping an Ls in my 240sx
I've seen that car in person looks good
thats crazy ur reviewing this car. i talked to the guy that owns it at a sheetz in NC one time. cool guy. siick car. wish he gave me a ride in it.😕
Haha your welcome to catch a ride , currently is apart getting the new motor ready.
JTeague223 haha sounds like a plan. hopefully i see ya again! whats the new motor swap?
Patrick Groves I'm putting my destroked ls6 in it
JTeague223 high revving 600ish HP motor? hope to see it on the streets soon. good luck with the swap!
Patrick Groves yes sir, not quite 600 , hoping low 5s na
Hope one day you'd be able to drive a vq swapped 240z
I love the idea of ls swap but I would love to see an American muscle have a 2jz or k24 engine review on here 🔥
Warzoneh22a V-TEC those are super rare. Often only done in cars that started out as V6s anyways. V8s just have way too much durability and reliability that they can hit any of the same power figures and often times do it with more torque. Essentially it'd be taking a step back
That thing sounds like a NASCAR stock car rolling down the road . Thumbs Up from me
I dont know why, but LS reaaally rolls with E36 in my opinion
I actually like ls swaps
Dat intro to Koven music ♥
It's hilarious watching everybody complain about the LS, you guys need to grow up.
LS-swaps are practical only in the US, because LS's were put in pretty much everything. In Europe you either can't find an LS motor or the cost an arm and a leg to buy. Plus parts are also as expensive if not more than SR20 or RB parts. Europe also has much more strict modification laws. For example in Germany (where I live) you can't put any parts on your car, if they don't have the propper certification. If you do and get caught, your car gets impounded and you have to take it back to stock or at least to a level approved by the governing body, before you can register it again.
if you have an ls swapped 240 good luck on their part catching you...
AMGV Media it's Germany, they need fast police cars and if you think they can't catch you... They will just find you
DBGMLV whats the extent of modifications you guys can do before they take your car?
You can't do anything, unless it's approved and specially mentioned in the cars papers. Otherwise they take your car and you can reregister it after converting back to stock. Wheels have to have a certificate that they are made and fit for your car. And you can only get approval for certain tire sizes. Tire stretch is forbiden, so is removing cats, wheel poke, rubbing, tint on the front windows. Also if they have the slightest suspicion that your car is not 100% up to the law, they impound your car and send it to be tested by an engineer.
DBGMLV in the Netherlands when the car makes 150% of its stock power or the engine has been swapped you need to have it checked by a garage and have it registered as a whole new car by law. When doing so that also changes the insurance, which becomes insanely expensive if you don't have any no-claim years built up.
To give you an idea, for a peugeot 107 (60hp) 3 cyl petrol, I as 20 years old with 2 no-claim years would have to pay 100,64 EUR a month for insurance. And adding more horsepower to that equation will drastically increase that price as you become the stereotype hazardous young driver.
LS swap into a JDM is perfection for speed and power cuz their original motor cant handle the pressure of having a lot of power
I wont mind if i got engine transplant since i was design to handle a maximum of 500hp only :)
Haters gonna hate, I think if the owner likes it its fine also thank you for making another great video! :-):-)
LS swap in a 240 is the only logical swap. My buddy Jacob did awesome with this car!
The LS or any American V8 is a great engine to build but for me it has to be the KA or 2J
the only reason people hate the ls swap is because the Internet told them to this car is fantastic let the salt rain
Scott Babcock haha thanks man! I love it
Saw Ls in the title, came to the comments to see the butthurt people in the comments. Lol I have an automatic 2016 wrx and I've gotten so much shit. Lol and the car community is the "best community ever" sike asf
Wizzy Khalifa how dare you drive an automatic 😂😂
Who drives an automatic wrx by choice lol
lol thanks for proving my point. and at that time i didnt know how to drive stick but now i do. o well nothing i can do about it now but it feels good that i can atleast afford a 2016 wrx
Wizzy Khalifa yeah, I'll never understand the people who give a shit what other people drive or care if their car is an auto or manual. That's one of the most annoying things about the car community. You have a nice car, bro
And pretty much all of the people complaining don't know jack about what they are talking about. I have had a lot of people get smiles when they see my 85' Fiero GT and think its cool to see one again, but I've probably had twice as many just say its going to catch on fire or some shit. First off if my car catches fire its because its 32 years old. Secondly only 135 Fieros caught fire which is only 0.35% of all Fieros and it was only the 84' year model that only came with a I4 Iron Duke engine that had the issues. My 85' GT is clearly not an 84' because GTs are only 85'-88' and a GT does not have a I4 Iron Duke. I have to explain this shit every time and their normal response is "its still gonna catch on fire".
I wonder if anyone has ever done a Volvo 5cylinder engine swap s13
just a thought, but worst case what would happen if you wrecked one of the cars you were filming?
Waiting on that red cherry rb 240sx review
Clicked the video as soon as I read LS Swap
Has David done a review on a neon srt4? If so I want to watch it.
Nathan Troutman just search in CZcams thatdudeinblue srt4 and if there are no results then he has not done one yet
His name is like, the clouded rider right? I know that yellow subaru in the back, DAVID
5:50 had to flip my head upside down
Im waiting for the EK hatch or honda prelude review.
So you think the seats, wing, spoiler are obnoxious? I think you meant awesome Dave.
