- I'm winning you guys over, I know it!
The Bricklin gets a little love on the inside today. The moldy interior is stripped down, cleaned and dyed for a more modern finish. By the end of the video this car is all class on the inside and super car on the outside.

Dan making Canadians proud from coast to coast for this venture
I mean how can you not have fun playing with doors like that. I’d be like a little kid playing with the buttons. Whoosh 💨 Back in the day there was a show called Chop Cut Rebuild that did a ground up restomod build of one that was super cool and educational🎉. I’d never heard of a Bricklin prior and they got a neat story surprisingly you can still get it on dvd on clearance from Classic Industries but you may be able to find it free somewhere, it was season 4.
Coincidentally the host of that show was also a Canadian named Dan. 🤷♂️ I could be wrong but I’d
like to say that car was at SEMA at one point, it turned out really good.
this car is like the girl you thought you would never like but the more your around her the better she gets. love this build . Is fun to see you getting into this haven't seen you have this much enjoyment in a car in a long time.
Yea, like the one you want to drive but don’t want your friends to see you doing it😅
I don't get the hate! It's rare, it's cool, it's cheap, it's V8, it's loaded with character. As with all of your cars, the imperfection and clever fixes only adds to the charm for me!
I can appreciate this Bricklin. I grew up in the States, but live in Canada now. It reminds me of all of the different Kit cars you could buy back in the 70's & 80's!
It's a shame it's all cracked, but, who else has a ratty Bricklin?!!!!
The Brickland is definitely in the right hands! Love the burnout teaser!!😂
Quite the mix of car parts , AMC , Ford , Bricklin exclusives . Neat doors , could easily disarm a threat with those bad boys . Lol . "Left turn , Clyde ." POW ! I love that you've actually added a "Direct Hate Here" section . Wow , tough crowd , aye ? I guess it's far easier to pick you apart , than to start their own "Know-it-all" channel . Such is life . That's probably the most garage love that poor thing has seen in years . Finally getting to dry out a bit . Damn those torpedoes Dan , full speed ahead !
I was in trade school when this car came out. I wish I could have bought one. Great project!
Sat in cars new at Buick gm dealer nobody wanted it had Ford. 351 engine
If Mur digs it, then it's gotta be good. I think this is a cool project. It s fun to see you pumped about this 🚗. Besides... no welding involved. 👍
I am excited to see her polished, it's crazy how clean that car will be.
Needs some limiting straps to prevent doors flying up. Like. That
I had shaved door handles and locks on an old beetle I drove. I ran a small wire from the positive battery post to a spot at the rear tire. I could put 12 volts to it when the battery was dead and power the door latch and locks to enter the car. This could be something that would let ya get air pump going when battery was dead. I love this car build. Keep up the great content.
Love the doors..my goal would be pulling cylinders and rebuilding them, to make the doors 100%. My good friend builds hydraulic cylinders, reworks the packings and such. A piece of u-channel or angle iron to make a safety stop, to go over the extended rod works awesome.
Your choice, but i like the idea of changing the carpet, marine carpet isnt real expensive. I know the budget is low, so keep at it.
I used spray nine to clean my fiberglass boat, then gel-gloss to make it shine. Looked 100% better.
US dollar plus shipping, just double it. Just bought a rubber kit for my studebaker, 500 usd landed here for 890cdn. With 10% off, thanks to Derek as we doubled the order.
75 duster buckets, maybe fit? The pair i have need recovering though.
Giving you ideas for the Studebaker truck Frank?😆
Merry Christmas Murr!
Dan. It keeps getting better and better. So nice of you to do this for your dad.
I could see myself walking up to the car and letting that door give me an uppercut to the jaw.😵💫Smitty
Awesome job! This is really coming together! This is rapidly turning into one of my favorite builds!
Thanks!
Guys! You finally made the big time! I was checking the weather at work on the interwebs, and you popped up in my peripheral feeds, "popular Canadian mechanic saves canadian supercar" but it disappeared before I could click on it..well done you two! Keep up the grind
Haha I dunno about that
I think you will find that the older generation, born in the mid-50s, will find this work on the Bricklin fascinating. I was a teen when these came out and were a futuristic car to us. It was a head-turner. I think if this could be restored to what it was, it would be priceless, not so much in money but in nostalgia. There were so many hot cars back in the day trans am, firebird, and Corvette, but none were head turners like this one. Dan, you are doing a great job on budget and your father will be very proud of you doing this for him. If you want to make that skin perfect, there are people who work magic with fiberglass and it will last especially if it's kept under cover. It would cost but not as much as you may think.
Sorry but I was born in 58 and I do not agree. They always looked like a kit car.... think Bradley GT.
@@dennisolsen4507 born in’57, and when I first saw one of these, I thought the same thing…VW kit car, sure was no Corvette😊.
Sorry to pile on. Was born in ‘54, and my recollection was like, “did Studebaker build a clown car?” It struck me as a crude Corvette rip off, nothing to admire.
Priceless? 🤣 About $13.73 worth!
Yea, I was born in 50, and do not agree either. We were only American cars back then and didn’t pay a lot of attention to foreign cars or any foreign cars. I don’t think I ever saw one til Derrick bought that one. I’m sure Dan will make it something he and Mur and a lot of the viewers will like.
It is for sure a different kind of car, but is a unique Canadian car, right at home! It's for Mur so kudos to you for fixing up a ride for Pops.
Sunset Orange was a common carpet color in the 70s. Had that color carpet in my bedroom, when I was in highschool. A low piled shag known as "Sculptured Shag" 😁.. groovy🤣
Far. Out
@@user-ht1xu4gv2u 🤣
Dan. Most of us Bricklin owners have put insulation under the carpet on the fiberglass pans and firewall. You get a lot of heat from the motor inside the car!!! The ac in the summer just can’t keep up without the insulation. Now is the time to install the insulation. You will thank me later!!!! (Also a lot of heat comes up around the e-brake and needs packed with insulation. Good luck.
Ah good to know. Thanks!
DD Speedshop - remove , repair, rebuild, replace = running working vehicle !!! It's a slow process , not perfect, but gonna be a runner soon 😎!!! Good job Dan !!!
I don't care what Mortskie says. Bringing this back from the dead requires somebody not afraid to think outside the usual car guy box.
Mortski would still be trying to figure out how to get inside it. Glad ole Mortski had plenty of gay pride stickers…….hmmm.
The Bricklin was one of my favorite cars as a kid. It's a shame that it's so difficult to completely restore as new or damn close to it.
Yeah. Owell it's still fun
Looks pretty cool but wouldn't want to own one.
I would love to own one. ❤ North American super car. 😊 engine wise? 🤔
Parts are very costly i had one it was 80 percent restored for example set seat could cost 1000 and up same as door panel and gas tank allmost impossible to find they are out gremlin they are not made for tall people one biggest reason i sold mind
@@DDSpeedShopwhy didn't you strip all of that nasty old carpet out?
Painting it ain't gonna kill those germs.
I love the videos on this car. Its different and not just throwing brake clean down a carb to see if it runs
Yeah trying to get it all sorted out
This thing is so weird it’s cool. The fact it’s a lot of repurposed AMC parts makes it even better
There’s a brand of fabric dye called SEM they sell it at automotive paint shops. Might want to keep it tan. In looks cleaner and the dust is less noticeable than black.
Hey Dan, maybe make some external remote 12V jump points under the car? Out of sight ofcourse. So you can jump the battery from under the car?
That's a good solid suggestion. Whenever I do shaved door handles I always put in a jump spot. Any type of electronic door release you need to build in some kindof redundancy.
Derek has a sweet new bonfire you'd be interested in - a Lumberghini!🤣
It's getting there, Dan. Well done, mate 👍
I had never seen a Bricklin until Derek revived it, I like it.
When I dye my carpet in my car I used black spray paint glossy and use a stiff bristle brush to move the paint deep into fibres of the rug. When it drys it’s still soft as long as you brush it as you spray it. Works great even on headliners also.
I LOVE THIS CAR BECAUSE IT'S SOOO DIFFERENT AND FUN! Great pic Dan. It's good for you AND it brings a smile 😁 to your Dad's face, priceless! Dude, seeing this car on the road IS SUPER RARE! Probably will NEVER see another one on the road. I haven't seen one and I'm in my fifties. Make the most of this treasure and just enjoy it with your Dad. Anyway, thanks for the video 📸.
Air tool oil for lift cylinders. Get a plastic welder for body skin then sand and buff 😊❤❤
Use gm electric window switches
I grew up around 2nd gen Camaros and Bricklins! My dad has a white 4 speed he bought new. The original carpet would have been dark brown and the rear hole behind the license plate would have been for a key to pop the hatch. We have a lot of parts but are all the way in Pittsburgh.. Love to see you fixing it up and respecting the car. So much hate for them out there! They have their moments and weren’t the greatest cars but I still love them like a weird brother lol
Very cool, Dan..that Canadian super car looks really good on you.Glad to see you giving it some serious love!
Hey Danny Boy - It is quite a change up seeing you take a for real interest in this orphan of the auto industry - I'm liking it enough to follow along - thumbs-up.
Keep up the great work! Enjoy the videos. Have fun!
Merry Christmas Dan n Danni! Man if people still don’t get the significance of this channel and what you do they never will lol Keep this cool stuff alive brother and this cars theme song is the Pink Floyd tune “Another Brick on the Lawn”
Merry Christmas to all of you in the Great White North!
Sooooo glad that you have finally seen the light about using PPE...
And golly! That Brick is sure coming around....bravo!
Pneumatic flow controls would allow you to adjust the speed of the doors while still keeping the pressure you need for the weight
TR-3 works great on oxidized paint. My brother inlaw and I used it on a old fiberglass boat and it worked great
Good stuff
Love watching you show us how to do things on a budget! Dan you are a breath of fresh air and a great car guy. I love this channel. It doesn't matter what you are working on, I'm hooked!
Thanks! I appreciate it
As long as Dad loves it, that is all that matters in the end...What a good boy you are...
Hey Dan, the whole front of the car, windshield frame to nose looks like the early to mid 80's Firebird, including the windshield. You can get a rubber molding that goes around the windshield called "J" molding. You could also use the "T" molding, the J has a wider top that covers the windshield and roof edge than the T, but it also has a lip at the bottom that actually goes under the edge of the windshield, you can trim that off of course. The T just goes into the gap between the glass and roof. Either molding comes in rolls, and both are installed with urethane windshield sealer. And both are pretty cheap. Any local auto glass shop should have it, or can get it for you. I have done auto glass for over 20 years and couldn't tell you the number of windshields these moldings have been used on as original, as well as work arounds for missing moldings like the Bricklin.
Love it Dan. Somethimg different is always fun. Keep wrenching! Power tour it!
The Bricklin is a neat car in it's own way. Glad to see your doing something with it. It's a shame to see something like that go completely to waste. Hope you have fun with it.
You can jerry rig anything and ain't afraid to try... From one jerry rigger to another I give you respect for going for it...
Oya u gotta try
That’s next level cool…Bricklin..ya think ya hate it now but wait till you drive it! Nice job man.
That car is awesome
great job and if you put a restriction in the air supply to the cylinders it will slow the movement but it will still get the full pressure and the speed of the doors will be consistent.
Hey Dan
Fantastic you are doing this for your Dad, also great you are taking better care of yourself.
As always take care 😊
Dan did you see there’s someone that sells re popped Bricklin body panels on eBay. You may have even mentioned it my apologies if so.
I don't have any hate for this car, its made of bathtub stuff, so thats kinda weird, but at the end of the day its still a rwd V-8 car so its cool in my book: love the new fast motion music BTW
Love this project.
I was surprised how easily you got those doors working. Good job.
In for more. Hi Dani.
I was reserved about these cars back then, and still am. About seats, I worked for an AM dealer back in the 70's. You will find that any seat from AM in the seventies may fit. Hey its your car , do what you feel is best. Have fun with it.
Merry Xmas Dan and Dannie. I worked for a collision shop who did a lot of warranty work for the AM dealership. WE did small paint work, I used to install decals on all AM cars. AM did not have a lot of money to spend on design, so they utilized what was on the shelf. I think the guys at Lucore Auto can help more than I can. I'm old and don't trust social media. so I'm only on youtube . I believe that all small AM cars share the same parts up to the Spirit and the Concord.
Pneumatic gull wing doors and crank windows, a combo only the accountants could love! Drove a 69 Rambler and recognized the crank immediately. Can't wait to see how this turns out.
Nothing to do with accountants. It was weight. 70s power window motors were stupid heavy. Not a great idea with the gullwing doors.
Love this car, I like to see how it all works and seeing the car come back to life. Hope to see it all done.
Will be a nice car when done i love it the doors are great better than the back to the future car i think
It seems like the expanding and contracting steel due to the temperature changes would cause the fiberglass to come loose when the glue become brittle. Maybe some kind of glue that stays flexible would work better?
Seen this car when tavarish had it.nice to see the love
Hey Dan they got high back seats available through summit about 39 each you can get black seat covers they also have low profile tracks or you could try some seats from an old fiero
Sending the Bricklin LOVE all the way from Texas USA
Thanks!
My dad and I built an old XJ Jag with shaved the door handles and ran poppers. We had the same concerns about the battery dying so what I ended up doing was adding an electrical bulkhead connector from an electric forklift under the bumper which gave me two leads to clip jumper cables to. Once you unlock the doors, the rest was kinda easy.
Get some of those zus Fasteners thumb screws and install them on door panels instead of fiberglassing them in. So down the road if you need to work on the window of the door mechanisms, you can just unlock them and take the panels off..
The Bricklin was built by a bunch of Maritimers that spent the majority of their time on Pogey Beach. That being said, the build quality could of been a tad better.
I got nothing against maritimers. Honestly, they are some of the nicest people in Canada. They just like to take things,,,, easy.
Bricklin SV-1 is looking awesome indeed. Nice job on getting the stuff working again. Keep up the great work
You can add a couple in-line needle valves to control flow to the door cylinders. You'll need pressure to get the doors up but you need to better control volume.
It's coming together nicely. Love it! Im always anticipating the next video 👍
i think your having way to much fun with the doors i love it
They are awed
Frequent viewer and never commented on anyone's videos prior to now.
Kudos to you Dan for not fueling the fire @ Mortske.
I thought Derek was crazy taking on this Blicklin.
Additional props to you for attitude and persistence with this challenge.
I have been a 4 year subscriber to Mortske, but have since unsubscribed due to the negative content he posted with shade towards DD Speed Shop.
He may just be jealous of your hair. ;-)
Do what you do and I'll keep watching.
p.s. Great interview with Derek.
Dan coming from a guy who designed and built hundreds of car and boat interiors. Always use a good leather/ vinyl conditioner. Never use armor all because it attracts the sunlight which causes it to crack and fail. They have been sued over and over for lying to their customers. The conditioner will make it softer right away and the more you use the softer it kids.
Dan for interior dye get yourself some SEM products. They can match OEM colour codes perfectly and deliver factory looking appearance if you follow the directions. I have used their products to refresh and refurbish as well as to do colour changes. The stuff if top notch and does not rub off. I’m digging the SV1 series…will be interesting to see Murs reaction to it.
Oh good to know!
DUUUDE that first ,time lapse jam was killer who is that..? I've used carpet dye on a mustang works great! Haha Dani the official rattle can Rattler😂😂😂
Love the Bricklin glad to see that you are saving it
You've worked your tail of on that car . Great job! I watched the video of Derek picking it up.thanks again Dan& Danny👍👍
Glad to see you giving bricklin some TLC, you are a true hot rodder and decated family man! just think how proud mer&ma will be when they return home!! Rock on screw the haters!!
Every time you pop the door on the Supercar, I can't help but to think about 2 Fast 2 Furious..."Ejecto Seato Cuz!!" Happy Holidays to you and yours.
Now I know it’s bothering people I love it, you know what your doing have fun
That thing will be sweet with a tunnel ram and a gasser build!!
And modify the fiberglass panels so they can be removed for racing- the whole Road Warrior vibe.
Dan, you remind me of...me! Back in 1978, my best friend and I worked at a gas station. We made about $80 a week. We pooled our money and bought a 1967 GTO for $500. It was in worse shape than the Bricklin! But, we had Hot Rod and Car Craft magazine. We had a carport for a garage and dreams! The GTO was a 4 speed and had 3 carbs. No idea if it was original. We did manage to get it running, but it was totally rusted out. You bring back great memories! Merry Christmas! Oh... and the GTO was white! 😂
Sounds like money well spent to me haha
I'm loving all your recent builds.
Thanks!
KRC-7 is what we (kitchen and bath dealer) stocked for acrylic finished fiberglass.
It's very obvious that you are a talented mechanic. You understand how the different systems work on your Canadian hot rod! When are you going to show the tire burning video!?!😅
I'm curious to see if it'll still drive straight! Lol I no it did when Derek got it, yet maybe something happened after spending time with Mortske! Keep doing what you're doing the car community is awesome and fun
I was in the Navy with a dude that had 2 of these (he said he needed 2 in order to keep 1 on the road)... After watching these videos, that makes total sense to me. Im also understanding why he usually drove it without the doors on it. Haha!! Digging the Bricklin Dan!!
Ok, so the MOST important thing inside is getting the radio, with that AWESOME clock, working!
SEM bumper coat works great on carpets, and plastic parts on interiors.
Johnathan: If you got time to air it out, regular paint (preferably basecoat works good on carpet) and it's cheap. I've mixed leftover colors together to use up what junk I have. Just hit with a brush when dry--it gets stiff!😆
....again, cool spaceship, the NASA is jealous. Happi christmas, have fun unpacking your new clamps
Dan love your channel , but that’s what we call a south Bronx special one of the few and proud you could leave the keys in it overnight and still be there in the morning.
Good job, Mur will surely be happy with it! Merry Christmas to you guys! 😊✝️🎄🎁
Well, The free bumper stickers certainly tell a tale🤣
those are just neat cars glad you are fixing it for Murr and nice to see it continuing its story
I remember a video or something in them and people talk about putting a drain hole and a pop in body plug under the seat to let water out if it gets in like a steel floor car will have in places but such neat little cars
If you ever decide to do a more permanent dye job on the interior, try SEM vinyl dye. You need to prep the material with their special spray prep before spraying the dye. Properly prepped and applied, the SEM product sticks well and lasts a long time. :>)
I agree the SEM products seem to work really good.
A close friend of mine sprayed his tan bucket seats with black SEM some 20 years ago. He has put on 60,000 miles over the years and those seats are just as perfect black as ever. Great stuff.
Ok that Brick is growing on me. Mur will be proud. Merry Christmas!
Coming along nicely Dan
They cant hate it too much, 7200 views in 2 hrs... I LOVE IT!
love that car the door has made my day ..... deffo new shag pile carpet when you can ..... orange will contrast better than mustard ....
It is already is so much better 😀 looking forward to seeing it polished up 👍love the doors Mur will love it
Coming along great Dan. I really liking it. For some reason I just see a picture of it with a blower sticking out the hood. Keep up the good work your saving another one. 👍😎✌️
It’s looking better and better every episode!!!!
Great video. It’s good to see you enjoying this car
Dude, you don't have to worry about getting car-jacked in that thing ... Just open the door, and knock 'em out! 😂😂
