  • In this video we make really simple and cheap DIY drawer pulls that look great! These can be made for about $1 each using inexpensive steel square tubing from Home Depot. With one 48" length you can make about 30, 3" drawer pulls.

    Thanks for using more affordable tools as options! I find it really helpful as a beginner builder who can't afford to put out tons of money to buy all of the best power tools for a job. I look forward to seeing more content like this!

    A couple of ideas.
    Use aluminum and you can make a brushed look.
    Another idea is use 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 or 2x2. Then mount it on the inside of the drawer with the pull wrapping over the top edge of the drawer. Screws can be installed on the inside for a cleaner look.
    I enjoy your videos and podcast. Thanks for everything.

      @@MakeEverything I’ve been watching your vids for a while and just got my first welder this week (Forney MIG just to do some simple welds and get into metal working). I’ve been rewatching some of your vids so I can try to recreate some of your ideas. Just waiting on the PPE to come in, starting off with just helmet and gloves. Do you have any other recommendations to noobies looking to get PPE?

    So cool! This is great for the weekend warrior who wants to upgrade their house. You could even knock the price down to probably 50 cents per unit if you want to a steel shop since big box stores are a bit more expensive

      Drawer pulls can be $10+ each so these are perfect for someone with a little determination!

    Incredible! Bout as simple as you can get!
    Gotta be honest, I was a little nervous when you almost touched the steel after grinding. Don’t need any more burns on those money makers! 😉

    Great $$ saving DIY solution!👍 For a people looking for a nice shiny metal look, soak in vinegar over night, wire wheel and clear enamel spray (or your clear coat of choice). Less effort than trying to grind/wire wheel the mill scale off. Citric acid solution also works (can buy citric acid in crystal form and make a solution, 2 cups of citric acid crystal per 5 gallons of water, on-demand and not deal with the smell of vinegar. (for a pewter look, same as above, but instead of wire wheeling the peices, just dip the pieces in water and baking soda solution to neutralize the acid, dry thoroughly and clear coat). Please keep sharing more solutions like this! (make Paul Pinto a wake board for his Olympic dreams!)🤣

    Hi ME, hope you are well. Interesting idea for pulls. I sometimes flip my hacksaw blade to cut on the pull stroke especially when i'm working overhead. I keep my old blades and make marker knives from them, cheap but useful. Thanks for sharing.

    I’d like to know the real cost of it. I mean it’s time consuming and you have to apply a durable finish on it.

    "A hacksaw, similar to a file, only cuts in one direction." Immediately proceeds to use a file and runs it in both directions. 🤣
    Cool idea nonetheless. 👍

      I was going to say all that xD.

    • @MakeEverything
      @MakeEverything  Před 3 lety

      Files are generally made to cut in one direction. Some files have a tooth pattern that cuts on both strokes, but you’ll find most files are only made to cut one way, and on the back stroke you can round over the teeth if you press too hard.

    It would probably be easier to make with aluminum square tubing since the metal is softer.

    • @MakeEverything
      @MakeEverything  Před 3 lety +1

      Definitely true. I like the rounded edge on steel bar a little more than the sharp edges on aluminum, but the process is the same!

    • @mccarthydesign1429

      @@MakeEverything didn't even think about the sharp corners on aluminum. I'd still lean towards the steel version if I were to make these but wanted to mention aluminum in case someone didn't think of it.

    I enjoy a lot of the content you produce, but please up the audio quality. Your voice level is so low that when you speed up the video, for example around the 6:40 mark, it pops a lot, like you are bumping them mic. Which then cause LOUD spikes. you could drop the audio or mute it during the speed UPs.

    I've swung the back of my hand into a round doorknob as I walk by. Hurts like a mother. Your $1 handle is a can opener. The time per handle hack sawing, filing, drilling, sanding, painting, equals one dollar how?
