I have heard said that much of what is effective for the long jump (in terms of increasing power, foot work, controlling speed) can also be applied to helping high jumpers as well. What are your thoughts on that idea? As a high school high jump coach, I am always on the lookout for new training ideas.
Of course there are similarities between the jumps …. Approach speed and contact time at take-off is slower than the long jump for the high jump. The board contact time in the LJ is circa 1100ms for the HJ 1500/1600 ms similar the step and jump phases in the TJ.
So, if I were coaching HJ I’d be looking at working around these latter contact times for plyo work in the main. I’d also be looking at more vertical displacement jumps and specific eccentric drills to develop the block-stop needed to transfer very directly horizontal to vertical velocity. This is much more of a requirement for the HJ as opposed to the LJ obviously. Hope this helps a bit.
Sir what I do for increase lag power for LJ/HJ
What about summer conditioning?
Sir i have a lil problem in practicing on synthetic track i'm new to it.....will it okay in some time?
Sir what should a long jumper do to increase his takeoff height
