+mktucker41 Now that you point it out I really hear the Vader comparison. Even in the vocals. Only real musical similarity to nile beyond the lyrics is the scales they're using.
MAAt deserves more recognition in the DM scene dude! how about saying goodbye to grandfather Vader and throwing in some frest meat and BLOOD there from MAAT!
People complaining about Nile and this band, saying Nile is pure noise, either your speakers are fucked or your headphones are shit because Nile gave birth to the idea you can write lyrics about Egyptian Mtyhology and still be considered a huge force in the metal community, now onto this band,do they take inspiration from Nile, Yes,do they sound like a clone? No,this is a more modern sounding Nile, these guys are still young and don't have the experience Nile has,on top of that, they don't have George Kollias behind the kit,so theres no reaching the 400 bpm mark and crazy foot sweeping techniques he employs. I even gave this album a like,so don't come at me with your biblical sized notes of how Nile and this band suck or vice versa.
+MedIevalCyrax i prefer to think of it as Maat having gathered inspiration from Nile. Neither suck , neither are copies, both are fucking awesome in each their own way.
+MedIevalCyrax HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA NILE NILE NILE HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA
In life everyone has an opinion. But you have one to keep to your self also. Don't matter what or who they sound like. They are musicians that is an art🍺🤘
symbiosis6 I agree Scarab is good as well but their first album is their masterpiece. They are the only band that can hold a candle to Nile, like it or not. Karl is 54 years old and still pushing the Nile originality since 1993.How old were you in '93?
I'm digging the whole Egyptian/desert theme death metal. My old roommate showed me Nile a long time ago and I thought they were awesome. This band has their own style of the microgenre(?) tho
I really like the power in the vocals. There's force behind it unlike a lot of the uninspired generic growling I've been hearing from vocalists lately. And they know how to slow the tempo down every once in a while and keep it heavy, overused blast beats take a lot away from the dynamic of a song and take away their own shock value. Overall as a band I've got nothing really bad to say, maybe they could use a little more high end leads but that's relative to personal taste.
I hear you as a guitarist myself and vocalist .The best i can do while both are those groove slow pm riffs with my death metal growls. The best is when you hit a heavy chord say e5 in standard and you let it ring while you growling at your best .Time to make another song with that idea 🤘🤘🔥🔥
Yea I like how authentic scarab sounds, Nile is fucking awesome but the Persian scales their music is based off of is an American guitar scale incorporated into sound
... stunning German Death-Metal killer with mystical oriental folk elements, this is MAAT 🇩🇪's strong first full-length album from year 2014 (check also out their debut ep album 'Born In Sand' from 2010 and their sophomore full-length 'Monuments Will Enslave' from 2017) ... 🤘 🇩🇪
It´s Bullshit say Maat it´s generic Nile, I think Maat have lyrics of the same mythology, but it´s only this. The Sound remember some Polish band like Vader, Hate, Behemoth whatever. But it´s amazing your sound. Congratulations guys, hail from Brazil!
Reading these comments I can't help but laugh at how stupid some people are XD Being elitist about a sub-sub-niche-subgenre like Egyptian Death Metal (if you want to call it that) and acting as if Nile were the only band with the license to attempt a style like this?! wtf? Connecting extreme metal with egyptian mythological themes and oriental scales and/or instruments is an awesome idea, and bands like Nile, Scarab and Maat are the avant-garde, they just show how well it works - each in their unique style of death metal. And personally I wish there were even more! Can't you all just relax and enjoy the awesome music these people put a lot of effort in? And if you don't like the genre or one of the bands or one of their stylistic elements in particular or whatever, you can just move along and don't have to be a dick about it...
SimilIar to Nile? How? How and why is this music surrounded by people who CANT listen to this kind of music, only bad criticism from people without their own opinion
+Peeved Stoic I think the only similarity to Nile is the lyrical concept. I think they sound more like Behemoth, especially when it comes to the lead sound.
They're not bad....my only beef is most of the songs on the album all sound the same. They sound nothing like Nile. This band is actually from Germany. The best thing about this band is their energy. I give it a 6.5 out of 10
More into black metal than death but definitely looks like there is some „ Uada is Mgła rip-off”type of comments but there only comments I read are either „MAAT is Vader or Behemoth or Nile rip off”
Nile², just with a good overall production ^^ better vox patterns and interesting leads. I'm a longtime nile fan, but tbh this is really good, i kinda like it more. The problem with nile is the production; sloppy guitar and drumtracks combined with poor mastering :/
ZodiacMeatgrinder This is very like Vader It does not seem very melodic, thus it becomes a monotonous bore to listen to at length, perhaps mostly because of the gruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh vocals and clicky drums Better than most
"Sloppy guitar and drumtracks?" NILE?? What have you been listening to? This is a half-ass boring basic as hell wannabe Nile clone. Thats all.If there was no Nile there wouldn't be these hack job bands that wished they were half as original as Nile...but are not.
Nile sloppy? really? My eventual gripe with Nile was that the later albums in particular were repetitive and uncatchy due mainly to over-technical playing (tech is fine if there's an occasional hook to sink into). Every tune became a predictable "drumroll-blast-drumroll ad nauseum". "Among the catacombs" is still the best of like 3 albums I can handle from Nile
lol is "Egypt-inspired brutal death metal" becoming an actual genre ? I would never have thought the day would come when a band would actually think "yeah ok I'm gonna do just like Nile, the brutal death, the traditional instruments and all, I see no problem in copying the whole concept". It's an ok album but I'd rather listen to Melechesh.
Nile copied Death metal bands in their entire sound, the only reason you don't hear it is because of the scale they use to compose in. Change the scale to standard minor and there's nothing different from other brutal death. Every band known today is a copy of every band before them.
I mentioned on a Metal site on FB, why Nile, never had slow parts, but plays 7 min. tracks, almost w. Kollias 280bpm constantly. No doubt, Nile are damn good & talented, but here, the first 4 nr.s, I hear more variation, than an entire Nile record. I asked for similar bands to Nile w. more variation. This band is great except the bad growling. But nice work with variation.. Compared to Nile.. This band & Scarab, was suggested to me, instead of Nile. And fucking nice bands. All 3!! But in my mind, they(NILE) are not stupid, so why not slow down, a few times?? Live, I hate pure blast beats!. Have seen Dying F., Morbid A. Krisiun, Origin & its fxcking fast but w. breaks & cool riffs, not destroyed by 1 long blast. A problem for Nile live! Have seen 2000+ metalbands \m/
Sorry think u misunderstand me.. Nile have made so damn cool slow songs, but I miss, that it's not more than 1 or 2 songs on each of the albums w. Kollias. And love their blastparts, but when I hear some of the evil riffs, they could easily put in 2-3 min.slow parts w. their atmospheric Egypt chords.. Older Nile is slower yes, I agree on that.. They are just so talented that I would like some variation in speed
The only thing similar to Nile about this band is the theme really, this reminds me more of Poland style death metal like Behemoth and Vader really
+mktucker41
Indeed, Lost Soul, Vader, Hate ... strongly influenced by Nile.. an amazing combo tbh.
+mktucker41 you are absolutely right mate.
+mktucker41 Now that you point it out I really hear the Vader comparison. Even in the vocals. Only real musical similarity to nile beyond the lyrics is the scales they're using.
First five seconds into this album and Vader was the first thing I thought.
saying they sound like Behemoth is not saying much considering Nile and Behemoth sound similar, even have a similarity rating on the archives
0:00 - 4:33 As We Create The Hope From Above
4:35 - 10:11 Shards Of Osiris
10:14 - 15:14 Sobek
15:16 - 20:03 El-Enh-Aa
20:05 - 25:11 Preservation Of My Immortal
25:13 - 29:45 Atum - Conqueror Of Chaos

symbiosis6 I agree Scarab is good as well but their first album is their masterpiece.

The intro of Shards of Osiris is epic 🤟, it reminds me the soundtrack of Prince of Persia Warrior Within

this is nothing like Nile, and if it was, it'd be boring. Thanks for the awesome fuckin' tunes, MAAT!
yeah I agree sir if this is ala Nile it would be boring..
I still love Nile but let's face it, they are not for everyone, and I don't think that every band should want to sound like them either.
Lucas Jenkins still love Nile, this is solid as fuck too

+I will Eat Your Fetus Agreed. The comments in here only reflect those who have no understanding of what death metal is.
+Peeved Stoic I think the only similarity to Nile is the lyrical concept. I think they sound more like Behemoth, especially when it comes to the lead sound.
If you can't hear the Nile influence then you are tone deaf. There are clearly 3 main influences, Nile, Vader, and Behemoth.
its like Behemoth
Like a more "modern" take on Nile...interesting. It'll probably grow on me like everything else tho lol
wow- this sounds like a mixture of Nile and Morbid Angel- fucking killer
what band sounds like this without the death vocals?

It does not seem very melodic, thus it becomes a monotonous bore to listen to at length, perhaps mostly because of the gruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh vocals and clicky drums

"Sloppy guitar and drumtracks?" NILE?? What have you been listening to? This is a half-ass boring basic as hell wannabe Nile clone. Thats all.If there was no Nile there wouldn't be these hack job bands that wished they were half as original as Nile...but are not.

Sounds borderline to Nergal!
Vocals are sick, like Behemoths Demigod era. I like it very much.
This is the brutal voice of death metal... deathcore, metalcore have gay sounds
