  • A huge variety of liveries and mix of DMU classes(Class 101, 110, 141, 142, 144, 150, 151, 156)during this trip, along with a HST, Class 08, 31, and 47's. Filmed mostly at Leeds, followed by a brief 'drivers view' on the Leeds-Sheffield route and short stops at Sheffield and Derby whilst changing trains. Filmed during Summer 1988.

Excellent video, being from Leeds its lovely to see the station as it was and all the traction of the time coming through. The footage through the dmu drivers cab window particularly good.

Thanks very much. Loved the old DMUs where you could see out the front windows, something missing from all the second generation and modern units.

Thanks Steve. I guess I will complete the conversion of the VHS tapes later in 2014, but I may make some 'Classic Compilations' of individual loco classes fro, the 80's & 90's if there's enough interest from people - plus there's also my photos from the 80's & 90's I'm scanning and starting to upload to my Flickr site :-)

A real good capture that! 26 years and seems like yesterday!

Certainly doesn't seem like 26 years ago to me! Thanks very much.

Another superb bit of archive footage Darren - nice to see all the old liveries and classes. I do like the editing on the 101 video to make it sound like the parcels unit was Valenta powered!

Thanks Chris. That did make for an interesting departure with the out of sight HST providing the alternative soundtrack for the DMU :-)

Thanks Keith. Very different today with only a few of those units still to be seen there and very different liveries of course.

Wow it's amazing how much the Leeds skyline has changed over the years. I was only 4 years old when you recorded this footage but i still remember seeing trains like the 141's running in the green Metro livery, also the 142's in the western brown and cream livery suited them perfectly i thought.
I used to always go to Leeds with my dad whenever we'd go off to Doncaster or York.

I made a few trips to Leeds in the 80's & 90's, and I would sometimes go on to York too. This was a good era for a mix of liveries before the 156's & 158's took over from the loco hauled Trans-Pennine workings.

My favourite new buildings in Leeds are the Royal Armouries and the rotunda next to the station.
I like the Royal Armouries but the rest of Leeds seems like hell on earth 🌎...

How would that combination work at 5:04? Didn't the earlier Pacers originally have a gearbox, whereas the Sprinter would have the later CVT style transmission? Or would the Sprinter have a gearbox back then as well as the Pacer?

That Peak at Sheffield, 45113, must have been one of the very Last ones running.

I had a few 45's out of sheff. around 87-88 so yes very possible. I remember the flying Scotsman at sheff before we got on either 45041 or 45046. SUPERB

Good stuff, great mix of shots and scrap at Leeds - what were those 141's all about :( GRID at 14.55 on the coal :) Loads of duffs, nice to see that peak still going. Those parcels units the front two cars look like 105's?

    • @davidfoster0666
      @davidfoster0666 Před 4 lety

They are 105's. Think there were 2 possibly 3 sets converted to parcel units.

nowadays I believe the old trains in Leeds are northern trains called pacers

Indeed, there are the Class 142(and Class 143/Class 144)Pacers still to be found in this area, but their days are numbered with new DMU's announced for future franchises.
