- The Mavericks have signed Naji Marshall in 2024 NBA Free Agency! Marshall will join Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving on the Mavs’ quest to repeat as Western Conference Champions. The Mavs news comes as Mavericks GM Nico Harrison has been looking for ways to add to the Mavs’ roster, and Naji Marshall could be a perfect fit. Naji is not the athlete DJJ is (very few are), but his defense is a “little” better, his 3pt shooting is better!!! This guy was the enforcer when people picked on Zion & Ingram. If anyone tries to do something to Luka or Kyrie, Naji will be the first one to respond in defense!!!

I think naji is not only the replacement for jones but the replacement for green. If you look at both greens and Marshall’s highlights. Both of them can pass, play defense, shoot, and hustle. This leads me to believe that green is most certainly being traded to the warriors for Thompson.

Slightly better than Jones in every aspect except for blocks. And that's with playing less minutes than Jones did.

Better 3P, ball handling, dribble penetration and passing like PGuard, but less verticality. Mavs already have many vertical guys, what we need is a more secure forward handling and the dribble, plus the 3 points, Marshall brings both, probably better penetration and passing than PJ.

That Thompson S&T for Green and THJ's TPE and Diniwddie's vet Min his gonna hit way different after signing Marshall. Hate to see DJJ but I knew he was about to get 15+M a year from someone after his year last year. Finally got a chance to prove his worth and his ability as a 2 way player. Now Luka Highlighted and put a spotlight on that, but hes still solid. If he doesnt go somewhere with an elite playmaker you will see him somewhat take a step back to Bulls DJJ. Marshall was a big time get on a nice team friendly contract that is going to bring a lot of similarites to DJJ. Def gonna miss those halfcourt fast break Lobs to DJJ. So much fun to watch and made our home crowds explode.
Happy for DJJ if he gets the bag... Unfortunate that the Mavs couldn't run back the same starting 5 from the Playoffs

It’s not about the better player it’s about who is the better player to fit in this system and shoot threes it’s clearly Naji Marshall!!

Pretty good move -- the prior regime would probably have just waited a couple of weeks and then miss out on both DJJ and Klay.
Only issue is Naji only shoots 2.5 3s a game. I don’t know how that’ll look in a larger sample size.
With Grimes signing, I don't think Marshall will average more than 3.5 3pa

Naji will make the Mavs offense more fluid. He's a confident shooter and a better ball handler that is also 6'7 and younger. I'd say better defender because he is very active with quick hands. DFS 2.0 great pick up.

@@StephanJones-rw5so Green is one of my favorite players. Grimes and Marshall probably don't rise to the level of athletic ism of Green and Jones but they give you a bit more size and possibly more physicality. Not mad. I wouldn't mind the Mavs picking up another big if they end up moving Kleber.

You guys don't know ball. Jones can't handle the ball. He was visibly scared to shoot at times. And in addition to Naji handling the ball he can create for others.
I don’t know if KCP would have wanted to go to Dallas, but if the Mavs felt that early that they were going to lose DJJ they really should have went all-in for KCP. He got $22M/yr from ORL and they Mavs could have trade Josh and Maxi to match that.

To me they are the same player.Loved jones but he shot over his head. Plus I think jones would regress defensively too…. Remember what happened to bullock and Dorian they regressed after the huge workload after making to the WCF..
Luka is the main reason why they play so good. Let's see if Jones will have the same impact with the other teams. Hoping he will not turn out like those ex mav players: dfs,spencer,bullock and wood.

The Mavs couldn't sign DJJ for a 3-year $30mil deal, but that could do it for Naji Marshall? Can someone explain why the Clippers got DJJ for the same deal the Mavs got for Naji Marshall? I thought the Mavs were trying to keep DJJ? Losing DJJ was a big mistake for the Mavs, I think they'll lose a step next season.
I think DJJ panicked after seeing he was replaced so quickly. Either signed with Clips through old agent or it's a hand shake deal until he can sign through Klutch.
I'm interested in why the Mavs lost DJJ. Can you go into more detail on the backstory here? Didn't the Clippers basically give DJJ the same bag the Mavs are giving to Naji Marshall? This seems like a huge blow. DJJ was a starter and a big reason they won the WCF.

If we can get Klay we going back to Finals and winning it! But either way Mavs building a Dynasty and will be a 50+ win team every year going forward and fighting for a title! Go Mavs! People are overlooking the fact that his new agent is a slimy weasel who is really good at manipulating the situation to get his client some extra money. If he’s representing Jones, then it’s obvious resigning with the Mavericks is no longer his priority, more of a back up plan. Let someone else get fleeced for a good defensive player with an ugly jumpshot.

If you go look at DJJ stats before the Mavs, he and Naji have similar stats. Naji is a little taller, heavier and with longer wingspan.
This means Naji will do better against those bigger opponents DJJ struggled with but it also means Naji will struggle with the smaller defenders DJJ guarded well.
My advice to the Mavs is Pivot away from Klay because all of this reeks of Lebron, Rick Paul and Klutch Sports doing what they do. I’m not mad at Lebron but you have to see what he’s doing through Rich Paul 🤷♂️
