Depends on what you want the starters to do. They will overwhelm most teams in the league including some contenders in the West. Still pretty long which is very good. Wolves, OKC and Celtics will be problems for them when defending.

Meh, on DSJ. If no other defensive guard is available and we need one, then sure. Guy has been in the league for seven years and still can't shoot. We have Hardy to score and get into the paint. I expect Hardy to find the consistency button 2024-25. Will be welcome.
Hardy plays like more of a 2 guard than a true point. He’s developed his passing a bit with lobs and finding the open guy but he’s much better in the 2 slot

I feel like the Mavs remaining holes are: 1) the 3rd ball-handler/playmaker. Hardy & Exum can hold that down during the regular season just fine. But I think come the playoffs you would really hope 1 or both would've stepped up & started living up to their potential. Feel like that CAN be Hardy but we gotta see him get a lot more consistent. 2) a PF/C in the mold of Maxi to fill in whenever Maxi is inevitably injured.
So as long as that 4.4m is going towards 1 of those 2 things I'm pretty content. I'm leaning towards the PF/C cause you are hoping Hardy turns into that guy. Maybe averages 10-12 a night with 3 assists a game...and come the playoffs he can be that guy off the bench to give you an easy 15. But the PF/C is harder to come by.

@@l-SlimReaper-I But he started & ended the playoffs like total ass. Like I said, consistency. You act like he was Dereck Lively or something. Stepped up. He had a few good games. Outside of those games he was basically unplayable. Just lots of boneheaded turnovers cause he's trying to do too much.
I really do like Hardy, but I'm just keeping it real. Where was Hardy against the Celtics? Didn't see him STEPPING UP there even when he was on the court up by 50.
So yeah, bro needs to STEP IT UP. He needs to ELEVATE his game and be more consistent. He can't always be like a string of 5 good games here and then glued to the bench for the next 15, 3 good games, on the bench for the next 10.
Hardy as backup Guard is pretty descent

Knowing the Mavs need 3-pt shooting, he's not a good fit. There are still better options on the market.
Marshall and Grimes are BOTH good shooters (they have to prove they can do it on a consistent basis with a higher amount of shots, but you can look at their form and see they are real shooters). That's 4 out of 5 starters plus at least 2 guys on the bench (plus Exum and Hardy) and you have PLENTY of 3pt shooters. The Mavs need to improve their high percentage shots. That means more 15'-20' midrange jumpers plus some post play. Not everything is about 3pt shooting.
Pass. We need guys who can hit 3’s consistently. No longer can we put role players on the floor who can’t hit 3’s
I mean we have that with the 3 pickups we already have. What we really need is a guy who can play perimeter defense, or someone from the wing who can go up for an oop. Not the worst pickup imo

@@l-SlimReaper-I Dennis Smith can play wing on offense easily. We picked up 2 guys who can play defense, but all 3 can shoot over 37% from the 3 throughout the season l. It never hurts to pick up more defense, and Dennis Smith Jr is considered an elite defender atleast according to the Nets coach.

Sure we can. But they have to be able to either hit midrange or post shots or AT A MINIMUM take the ball to the basket. Dallas dominated Boston in the paint. If they had upped that even more instead of throwing up 25' jumpers at a 25% level they would have won at least one of those two 7pt games they lost.
DSJ and Hardy seems redundant to me.

We have added 3 nice upgrades over THJ, Green and DJones. However we have not addressed our #1 need. A big time 3D wing in their prime that can give you 18-20points per game consistently. LM from Jazz, OG from Knicks, Ingram from Pelicans. Need 3rd star.

If Lively start making some 3's and PJ is consistent on those corner 3's then It will be real hard to guard us. I just hope they can run Derek on the post every now and then will open opportunity for others if they double him. Playing faster and a dinamic offense is the key to Beat a team like Boston besides the defense

Mavs cannot use the rest of the MLE they only have $2.5 million under the tax apron which they have to be.
You got to anticipate Luka, Ky, and Klay having stints on the IL, perhaps two at a time. Those backup guards (Exum, Hardy, and Grimes) will counted on at some point. A stronger defender in DSJ, who's more of a true PG and distributor than the other three, would be a smart addition. I'd take him over Dwid.
