My wife and I were just married around 9 months when this song was on the radio. I was stationed at Dyess AFB, Abilene Tx. That year and half was so beautiful and she was just pregnant with our son. We both loved this song and sang it all the time. She died 4 years ago of cancer after 49 years. I miss her so and this song is still so beautiful.

For a year, I ran a choir for homeless people out of a soup kitchen downtown- and this was one of our old standby's. They always spoke with respect about Bill Withers. Another favorite was Take Me Home Country Roads, You've Got a Friend and You Raise Me Up. Singing together has such Power!

away.Bill Withers was more than just a singer,guitar,piano player ,Seven
time Grammy award winner and he was inducted into the Rock And Roll
Hall Of Fame in the class of 201. He left us with many great songs that
were the soundtracks to our lives with songs like Lean On Me,Grandmas
Hands,Use Me,Who Is He And What is he to you which was covered by so
many but in my opinion the cover version and another all time classic
of that song was by Creative Source till this day that song still gets
played.Bill had many other classics but when he hooked up with the late
great Grover Washington Jr. on their monster hit Just The Two Of Us
which they won in 1981.Bill made history at the 30th annual Grammy
Awards on March 2, 1988, becoming the first songwriter to win for best
R&B song three times.

I have had severe anxiety ever since I was young and know how truly painful it can be. I will keep you in my prayers that our anxiety subsides or you have found some good coping skills. Music is the best good for your soul. I always have my music with me and it helps a lot. Just know you aren't alone and it takes a strong person to handle anxiety so I hope all is a little easier for you.

Musical God, or I guess vocal is more to the point, however, I was just over exaggerating.
Note the words "musical god". This does not mean the man has a godlike status. "god" has an added meaning in today's English Language and that's: "someone who is very important to you, who you admire very much, and who strongly influences you". Bill Withers and his voice are definitely something to be admired. And yes, there is something to the man and his voice that are simply divine!

I keep seeing comments where these daddy’s sing this to their kids and it just warms my heart and have tears of joy ... because I wish my dad would sing this with me or lean on me or I lean on him when things are wrong.. but my daddy and I don’t speak. He’s at he lowest and he doesn’t want to be bothered by me and I will be 24 tomorrow of January 6 and my daddy’s birthday is the 10th of January and we was so close as a little daddy’s girl I was and my mom got into the way of things and I just mis my daddy so much. This song just keeps ringing in my ears to call my dad but when you have a dad that has a very bad laratab addiction it’s very hurt to believe anything they say... so days you stop calling... weeks .. months.. and now years and I doubt I’ll have a call from him tomorrow . But you will believe I’ll be thinking of him the tenth of January on his 42th birthday . Please pray for me and my family and all the others out there that have stories like this .
