    Thank you for sharing! Hey, there's a tool that you need to get, and that's a Brayer. It's a rubber roller that will help you apply the glue evenly (without streaks) and will also help by rolling the foil on to the wax paper, reducing creases and bubbles. I hope that helps!

    @loucorreri5378 Před rokem +1

    Two tips. When doing a long piece only peel a small amount of the backing off and start putting it down and then pull off the backing as you go along to prevent curling and sticking to itself. When initially smoothing out your foil a micro fiber cloth helps as it will glide more easily over the foil than your hand

      Thanks Lou, I had never thought about using a micro fiber for the foil, will have to try that some time I usually use Q-tips.. Have a good one!

    Thanks for this tutorial! I am a big fan of chrome and BMF. Lately though the BMF has had issues with staying stuck, tearing, and wrinkling. I have heard guys saying that they make their own but never explaining how they do it. I'm going to give this a try and see how I like it. I have also been told that you can use candy type paints sprayed over the foil to give it different shades for different applications i.e Tamiya clear orange #X26 will make a gold colored foil.

      Thanks, this sticks very well. I have painted foil before to use as pin stripping, didn't think about candy type paints.. Interesting...

    BMF comes in gold, black, matte black...etc. As well those you mentioned. Cool technique. I knew you could do this, but never tried.

  • @PlasticImaginationWorkshop

    Awesome tutorial Kreg! I've never used BMF, seems too expensive to me for some reason; that and I'm always nervous about trying to cut it on a nice paint job. I may give this a try since the price is right. Plus, I'm always looking to learn how to do something new and this seems like something I can play around with on test bodies and not spend a lot of money.
    Question, do you need to use a lacquer or enamel clear coat first? Since the adhesive is water based, I'm wondering is a acrylic clear coat would react to it since they are both water-based. Thanks for sharing and have a great day. -David

    • @kregskorner8851
      @kregskorner8851  Před rokem +1

      Thanks David, I has made this years ago and slowed down on building kits and had forgotten about it, until I build that Edsel and thought I can make better foil then this. I think you would be ok on water base paints due to the glue is almost cured out. I had brushed some on my mat and some was on the counter top and it took a lot of water and scrubbing to remove it. Give it a try on a old kit and see how it does, it has a good adhesion to it. You would never notice a cut line in the paint unless you went wide on it, even so would hardly notice it. I don't press very hard just enough to cut the foil.. Have a good one!

      @@kregskorner8851 How do you get parts to hold together when they're painted? I use the same glue as you, but when parts are painted, they won't hold. I've always been a believer in putting plastic against plastic, but I thought with new technology in adhesives maybe it's not necessary to strip paint to assemble parts. (I hope I'm not being too much of a pest with these questions. I'm just now getting back into the hobby after a couple of decades away from it. You seem to really know what you're doing.)
