    Tebaldi and Callas come basically from the same school of singing, each with her own speciality. In their art there is much more that connects them than makes them rivals. Netrebko, and essentially everyone else singing today, comes from another vocal world entirely, one recently invented, the tone either ‘ingolata’ or nasal, out of control vibrato, and everything artificially pumped up with microphones.

    How can anybody compare the exceedingly beautiful tones of Tebaldi, the drive and psychological study of a true musical genius like Callas with the inadequate, unstable, never properly placed or sustained voice of a musical pygmy like Netrebko? Preposterous.... however, very funny indeed!

    No offense to anyone, Netrebko is a good soprano, but to compare her to artists that sang un-amplified, flat footed, with technique isn’t far. Callas brought true, trained drama with the voice, and Tebaldi has vocal color that can’t be compared. They both excelled in the Verdi repertoire, and their recordings speak for themselves.

    La Netrebko es una de las peores soprano, con una voz engolada para poder cantar papeles que por su tipo de voz no podría abordar y parece una cantante vetusta de los años 30 sin respeto al compositor, compararla con la Callas o con Tebaldi es una ofensa a estas dos ultimas grandes sopranos de todos los tiempos, Callas soprano absoluta y Tebaldi una spinto sin comparación. Viva la Callas.

      La razón de poner a la Netrebko entre Tebaldi y Callas tiene mucha retranca, tal vez sea una forma de poner en relieve la distancia entre la primera, Netrebko, y las otras, Tebaldi y Callas.

      В Италии певцы с великолепными голосами рождаются как футболисты в Бразилии. Отсюда высокомерное отношение и поверхностное знание исполнителей других стран . Даже легендарного Марио Ланца , которого великий Артуро Тосканини назвал лучшим голосом ХХ века рафинированные любители оперы не особо чтят. Судьба не дала ему шанса спеть оперу в Ла скала. Но у меня любовь к этому этому театру проросла на жемчужинах арий Марио. В России после долгого перерыва(Тамара Милашкина) появилась истинное сопрано. Образцова, Архипова, Вишневская - все они меццо-сопрано. Даже Скотто, Френи- не уровень Каллас и Тебальди. Карузо от рождения не был тенором, Джильи - баритональный тенор, Паваротти над своим голосом работал 7 лет. А разве Бергонци, Гедда, Бьерлинг - это Карелли, Ди Стефано, Дель Монако?. У каждого свои пристрастия. Единственное с чем я согласен, с божественными Тебальди и Каллас сравнивать некого.
      Тебе спасибо дивная Италия.

    Netrebko impossible... than Tebaldi, beautiful sounds in the middle of the voice, and then Callas comes in and we all wake up, we are forced to hear, to understand, ... she brings the world of color, of dynamics, of an interpretation full of imagination and depth..

    La bellezza é veramente relativa .... Un buon soprano nella media di oggi , la Netrebko , che da sola può essere considerata anche piacevole se paragonata a due soprano a lei superiori sotto ogni aspetto , vocale tecnico ed interpretativo ecco che fa la figura di una mediocre studentessa..... E lo dico senza nessun intento di insultare i sacrifici e le rinuncie di ognuno,( anche per essere solo un soprano medio i sacrifici sono comunque tantissimi ) credo che nessun soprano, tenore, basso, baritono , contralto o mezzosoprano di oggi possa essere confrontato con gli artisti di 70 anni fa ! era tutto diverso , società diverse e uomini diversi ,anche il modo in cui una diva o divo dovevano comportarsi sulla scena era completamente legato ai dettami di una società più bacchettona ad esempio ....le voci poi si sono rimpicciolite per molti versi e quindi anche una voce che una volta sarebbe stata scelta per fare l' elisir, oggi fa anche i grossi personaggi verdiani .... totalmente cambiato in meglio e anche in peggio.... Prendo atto.

    I will say, if we want to bring back the old teaching we have to put our childish attitudes aside or we risk sounding like the modernists. Ponselle, Tebaldi, and Callas were all Amazing who had both pros and cons but we MUST learn from all 3(and more) if we are to accomplish such a task😁✨

      Couldn't agree more.. they have written so much about this role not suiting her!!! Imagine... they thought "one color, robust-in-the-middle" voices could be the only ones to sing it.. so much nonsense!.. Callas gives this score so many detail that the others never did... she confesses what Leonora wants, what she fears and what she suffered like no other...

    The one thing I do appreciate about Netrebko is that she does the original written ending, unlike Tebaldi and Callas who adds an extra Maledizone before the high B flat

      It is not the Netrebko hating channel. They don't hate today's singers. They think that today's singers have amazing potential if they developed great technical habits and expressed emotions out loud rather than more quietly. Rather, they are just pointing out the many times they demonstrate bad technique.

    it is not the beauty of the voice (beauty can be so yawning boring) because you can be divided about this. But and this is often overlooked, the handling of the text (opera is also: drama with music) its meaning, if a every word is given a character through timbre and coloring in order to express what is intended - as in spoken theater, where sentences are modulated and thus their drama, their effect. There were only 3 people among the opera singers (Lieder is a special category to be dealt with): Caruso, Ruffo, Callas, who did this in an exemplary manner. Often, what is completely okay, is only listened to, the tone,the pitch, is right; and the words and their exact pronunciation are then, at best, secondary.
    This can only be understood by those who have mastered the sung language and who are also interested in the plot and not indulge in the melodies alone.

      Virginia Zeani is another soprano whose characterful singing is invigorated by crystal clear diction and the meaningful use of vocal colour. Not having heard Netrebko live, as I did with Zeani and many of that generation, I am left with the impression of a seemingly decent but dull sort of voice which has no story to tell.

    «Slimming the voice» is not healthy. The voice must be properly released to reach those high notes. If we «slim» the voice, all we do is to constrict the voice to hard higher notes and we lose both timbre and debth, which are the most essencial parts of classical singing/opera!
    Bravissima Tebaldi! Bravo Maria Callas! Netrebko, you have still alot to learn… Maybe you would be better as Queen of the night?

    If this is the ROH recording of Netrebko, then it's worse than usual. She is so out of tune, it's untrue. I have three Forza recordings on LP. Callas/Serafin, Tebaldi/Molinari-Pradelli and a live recording with Tebaldi, Di Stefano, Guelfi, Neri and Barbieri from Florence in 1956 conducted by Santini. I love all three, but I find I listen most to the Molinari-Pradelli because the sextet of Tebaldi, MDM, Bastianini, Siepi, Simionato and Corena is nigh unbeatable. Thank you for this, anyway!!! It let's everyone hear what Leonora should really sound like!!!

      But.... we have to wait... perhaps she improves and the recording of Netrebko in this video is glorious!!

    1- Tebaldi, здесь мне нравится больше.
    2 - Callas, прекрасное, просто божественное звучание.
    Нетребко... 🤔
    Анна - норм. сопрано, особенно для нынешнего современного уровня.
    Но сравнивать ее с оперными дивами XX в., да еще такими великими, как Тебальди и Каллас - это просто не имеет смысла. . сила, фразировка, дикция , контроль - абс. все не то, вообще школа пения сейчас - другая, худшая.
    По сути, это все равно, как сравнивать Кауфманна - с Юсси (Bjorling) , а совр. театральных и киноактёров из сериалов - с грандами типа Larry Olivier.
    Смешно и ни к чему.
    Нетребко довольно неплохо пела раньше, есть некоторые партии, в которых она звучит приятно, но по данному фрагменту - с партией Леоноры она не справляется.
    М., еще и запись плохая

    Why do people still insist in comparing singers? What is the benefit? Please keep in mind that no matter what anyone says, personal taste (or lack thereof) will always be the benchmark for most dilettanti. In my humble opinion, Neterbko should have never been brought to this mix. She simply does not qualify, and this is not a matter of taste but a matter of singing and artistry. Personally, I only listen to Callas. She is my benchmark.

    Well, I was surprised by the out of tune spot and the other sopranos seem firmer and more direct in the music. I do find netrebkos color and eveness beautiful though. I do think her higher notes are prettier and freer than Callas and Tebaldi...

      her sound is more hollow,with no density ,nasal,and sounds prettier bcs there is no pressure in her voice to project through, there are mic hidden everywhere.

      In this aria "pretty" is hardly appropriate. The last word is "curse".

    Gran compaginación. Coincido con el sarcasmo. Netrebko al lado de Tebaldi y Callas sí que es una estudiante de conservatorio. Esta sobrevalorada soprano, que canta cualquier cosa, hasta se ha atrevido cantar Mackbet. Insólito

    Sorry, but Euginia Burzio was much better than Callas and Tebaldi... Also it's certainly not one of the best Tebaldi's records of this aria, I prefer live record from La Scala, 1955. We have to admit that real belcanto had died even long before Callas... Callas and Tebaldi were great anyway.

    none of them!! only Leontyne Price!! these very flexible pianissimi and this technique missa di voce! no one has gotten there yet! Tebaldi is terrible she has this technique she just screams!! this screaming no! she can't sing this passage! 4:25

      Price's pisnissimi are not pianissimo, What Price does is her voice becomes narrow and more narrower when she goes high and Price top becomes a threadlike. Tebaldi is a singer never screams, she just became famous for being the first soprano who did not shrill on top because her voice did not loose quality, her timbre did not impoverish neither in the smorzaturas neither in the high notes in full voice.Tebaldi's high notes are never screamed but they have much impact , the voice was big , the high notes are big. Price's high notes have not impact, she has no power
