THANK YOU for making the video. It makes me appreciative of OSHA standards and SAFETY RULES.
No hand protection, no spotting shields, No leathers. No safety boots. Nobody wire-wheeling the surfaces BEFORE rolling, since the inside of that tank has been subjected to a life of Salt-Water, and hasn't been cleaned up before assembly.
I FELT for that guy, bending over while welding that long side seam. His back is going to be hamburger meat before he's 40! At this rate, he'll be blind in no time.
Not a pair of Safety Glasses in the shop! LOTS OF TALENT, NO safety. There's one thing...he knows how to weld! THANK YOU, again, for your video.
This video should be adopted by OSHA, and be played before every safety workshop course OSHA does, as a PERFECT EXAMPLE of what NOT to do.
I'm going to send this link, to the welding/certification instructor, for the state; to start every course off with.

But this is like watching a well made horror movie: half the time you're admiring how it's done and the other half you're absolutely bloody terrified. Did I miss the bit where the pressure testing Tag was put on after the cylinder was pressure tested? I once went to a small workshop where a 10 CFM compressor had its tank rupture as it approached cut off pressure. Fortunately no one was in the the area at the time but the shockwave broke every window in a care nearby and the plaster and timber wall next to it had a very large hole through it. The compressor head hit the roof and punched a hole in it and the electric motor hit the car nearby and didted the door so the outer panel was touching the inner panel. There were bits of metal imbedded in walls and other wooden structures. If you were in that area of the shed then you were probably dead or critically injured.

I'm guessing you're from the UK but I'd expect it is similar: here in Canada you couldn't use a tank this size in a workplace environment. There are standards it has to be built to and it would have to be regularly inspected. In my province in Canada it could be no larger than 42.5 litres without regular inspection and proof it was built to the appropriate standards; and probably the other provinces are the same. Of course you're allowed to blow yourself up at home!

Once you see how bad a pressure vessel failure is it will make you rethink using an old air tank Like the 50 year old farm all american made one in next room that is 50 years old.......I am no safe police but using old scrap steel and making a pressure vessel is really bad. The way these skilled poor bastards work with no PPE is one thing but they are building stuff that can Kill and maim more than just themselves ......this things are time bombs just waiting for someone.......I did love this VJO all the same!

I do not want to get anywhere near that tank when it is under pressure.

Sorry, I welded on oil tankers in for repairs, there's no steel that thin on the things. That said, it's a nice job they're doing with the tools they have.

Nope, I wouldnt bring that tank up to 150psi. I like my legs and arms right where they are, attached to my torso, not lying on the workshop floor.

It seems like everything about the way these compressors are put together is asking for trouble. Maybe not a blow up, but seams failing wouldn't surprise me at all. Welding painted and dirty metal doesn't seem to faze these guys at all. I sure hope these aren't exported

So Mohammed... Do you have ANY engineering calculations that show the material is suitable? ANY pressure test data?
    Hmmm. Didn't think so.

think of buying what you think of as a new air pressure chamber ...only to have it blow up!
