- Darrin Smith built this 1965 Dodge Cornet in his front yard 20 years ago to resemble and old school iconic drag look as if you bought this car from the dealer and went drag racing that night, so sit back and enjoy the ride..

100% old school Mopar right there, not one ounce of 21st century technology exists on this car and I love it.
I've combined my old school engine and drivetrain with some new tech to get the most out of it. Dual wideband O2 sensor system helps me know how to adjust the 3x 2bbl carbs, Dakota Digital RTX series gauge system looks exactly like the factory gauges but with modern lighting and data acquisition and reporting features, even a launch control for my manual transmission!
Man this looks like my mentors fury from the front#rip tony jones#jonesboro
@@avman1339 ?n . nu? nu
@Jeremy Greyson I did the same to my wife's and just about the same time only I did it with a helper. IO and a cyber ghost also if you want to get in someone's messenger all you have to do is use the keyboard with Morse code and you can type anything you want to another shift
Just the Mopar Performance 472, which is a poked and/or stroked 426...."with a little work done to it"...still old school Mopar. No power adders or laughing gas...AND the upgraded two circuit master cylinder for safety. VERY nice..!!
It's one thing when got an old school muscle car with 700 hp and know how to drive it.
The fact that the owner drives it like he does without a roll bar cage, now that is nuts!
Todays traction control charger babies wouldn't last 50ft in it
Well, The whole idea is to keep the rubber side down.....lol
100% perfect! What a gorgeous old school Mopar.
Sounds aggressive as all hell! That manual valve body shift on the column is cool af
Pure cool and this thing pulls hard
My uncle has one of these. He bought it off the showroom floor. It only has one scratch on it that my mom put on it by opening her car door too wide LOL
Those 64/65 coronets are beautiful. My dad bought a 65 two door for a family car in 1965 with a 318. Within a year my dad took me, 6yrs old at the time, to a few junk yards to find a worthy 383. Had a few of his friends come over for a weekend and switched motors. Still pretty much remember everything that went on that weekend....He would take for rides in it and more than a few times would run people on the way to pick up a pizza ect. Good times with dad....miss you Pops
Love the nostalgia drag look, and its definitely rowdy
Yes and hell yes it’s rowdy
2 seconds in and a big fat YES. Gorgeous and perfect.
Finally somebody with a badass car and a Hemi who's not afraid to get in it. Use them for what they were meant for. Nice job and thank you
I like me a 67 Coronet, but the way this is set up is just right!
And God said...Let there be HEMI, and let it sound like the hell on Earth!!
It doesn’t get any cooler than that, just a bad fast old school ride.
Thats one beautiful Mopar brother and that 440 Hemi sure is a beast.
It is a cool ride and pulls hard
@@AutotopiaLA It sure is brother.
@@CJColvin It’s kinda confusing but the owner said it’s a 472 cubic inch Hemi. The car model is a ‘Coronet 440’, though they did start making 440 ci (not Hemi) engines a year later.
No such thing as a 440 hemi..
@@rong4189 Oh ok
Damm, I love this Dodge! It has everything you need and nothing you don't. Six packs are nice, but an old school dual quad or wedge set up is just boss!
I love it too
When you look in the dictionary under badass, the picture of this car should be there
That’s one bad ass coronet it’s put together perfect and the colors sweet
There is just something so amazingly cool and nostagic about these old Dodges. They are raw beasts! Cross ram manifolds whether Hemi or Max Wedge are just unbeatable powerplants in their day.
Straightforward, no-nonsense CAR. Bad to the bone and solid. Gets up and go, sounds like a million bucks, looks incredible... What more does one need hey? Perfect. 👍🏻
Love the sound of the HEMI all reved up. Thank you for sharing it with us.
440 wasn’t the hemi. The 426 was
@@larrymcintyre5693 the Cornet had a 440 modle it was more of a trim package. I had a 68 cornet 440 it was a 4 door with a 318. So the 440 model had many options. This one has a wicked built Hemi in it.
@@jasonbell2582 all I’m saying is the original factory hemi was a 426. The 440 magnum was a strong motor, but not as strong as the 426 hemi. It was the king of the muscle car engines, and the base design revolutionized drag racing. To this day, top fuel motors use that technology in the heads
@@larrymcintyre5693 i totally agree the hemi head design definitely revolutionized drag racing from the 1st gen 392 hemi to the 2nd gen 426 earned the title the Elephant. I love the 60s mopars👊
@@jasonbell2582 top fuel motors are now making 11000 plus horsepower, and that is phenomenal from a 500 cubic inch V-8, even if it is a blown nitro motor
700 HP w/ OG on the tree and no EFI. Love this.
I remember my dad slamming me in the seat back in the day. I would hold on to bottom seat and try to keep myself in it. Good Old Days.
That sounds amazing sir!
We'd run in the 12s but should be low 11s... great to here a dude who actually knows what he is talking about. I believe it 100%. Those tires
and making it all work.. yeah he is right. It would be a challenge to run a good number at the strip with that combo.
High Ten! He being Nice!!!!
I don't know. I've seen some pretty mediocre super stocks built for the track that didn't have a 700HP Hemi do a lot better than 12's in the 1/4. I think he's telling a little windy about what this car will really do. Maybe his gearing is off and he's not using great rear tires. But he's hitting 7000 RPM very quickly in this Hemi Coronet. 12's don't pass the smell test here.
Man there is nothing to hold on to dude.....I've heard that a few times ;--) What a beautiful MOPAR!
😂 fun ride though
THE GREATEST CARS EVER MADE. ....
You have to love that old school mopar, it just does not get any better than this.
Agreed all the way
This thing is setup to perfection. Pure Mopar Badassery !! 🤘🤘
You know a car is badass' when it squats in the middle of the road, to take a piss.
mark its territory
@@Lousasshol, yes!
ha
My freind here in Sweden got one of those, he bought a standard car without engine in the US, shipped it here and rebuilt it as a superstock clone with a 528 Hemi 700 hp and 1000 Nm in touqe, 4 on the floor and its streetlegal. Fantastic car!
Wild, untamed, no gimmicks, raw & uncut street shit. Luvvit
You got it!
takes me back to phoenix Bee Line Dragway 1964 im 13 yrs old and mopars rule the world
Awesome!!
Always been a mopar fan, the 63-65 are like it or hate it body, always liked it, awesome mopar
Don't forget the Lowly 62 also a B body!
Killer build, the the old school factory hot rods! Darrin is so real and his car love is contagious. Super cool video
He’s awesome! And I love the cars/trucks his company builds
Unbelievably spectacular! Those taillights are just beautiful. The whole car is a work of art. When a person builds their dream..and the world loves it....nough said. Congratulations to this man
Gorgeous car.......for those that dont know Mopars, that's not a glove box, thats storage for spare cap, rotor and ballast resistor. Forget any one of them and you may end up sleeping in the back seat.
Omg I bet that ride felt scary fast !
Smiles for miles in that car. Love it.
Definitely
Thats a awesome car. Thanks for showing us
I had a 1965 barracuda (273) stock from the factory and surprised alot of big block cars. Mopars were just plain bad ass .
LOVE IT!! Old school all the way. Simple but tons of power and a blast to drive. Remember seeing cars like that at the dragstrip back in the day. Buy 'em off the lot and go racing. Then go double-dating to the drive-in on a Friday night. FANTASTIC!! Colour is really nice.
Yeah, pure cool old school as is Darin
Drums savage
What a wonderful machine! Nothing compares to Mopar power! Fantastic episode.
This was a really fun shoot. Cool car and Darin is awesome!
Perfect perfect perfect , it doesn't get any cooler than this, freakin awesome!
Absolutely beautiful car and excellent, well done video! Really captured the raw power of those great super stock Mopars...
Just an old school beast. What used to equate to fairly low buck fun. Very, very nice!
That thing is bad ass! Very nice car.
this is the best Autotopia video so far .. just brilliant 🙌🙌
Thank you! We had a blast shooting this one and I loved the ride in this beast
Drums all round, and it stops just fine.
When just fine doesn’t cut it.
the 50’s & 60’s cars are the BEST!!..i graduated in ‘62..so i’ve seen plenty of both decades!!..👌
Thanks Shawn. Been working over 12 hours again today and these awesome videos are most appeciated ;)
He nailed it. Thanks for sharing.🙏
I had 65 Coronet back in the 70's, 426 wedge motor. Most fun car I have ever owned.
I need another 65 Coronet. Maybe this one. Maybe I could sell the house. Check out the facial expressions on his passenger. Classic.
When cars were cars man. I'm 72 and remember the good old MOPAR days. God did we have fun...
Now that’s pure sound right there!
12 seconds ???? Definitely an 11 second car and I LOVE IT, what I would give to have my ole Mopar 426 wedge back
This is one of those rare times when I see a car and wouldn't change a thing on it. Great car!
We all make choices in life. We are all responsible for those very choices. I envy those of you who realized your passion and went after it. Just like the guys in this video. They made the right choices in life to be able to enjoy their passions. I wish I had made the right choices so I could experience my passions. Nonetheless......there's this word called "vicariously". And I apply it every time I watch this channel. Thanks for all you do!
Glad we can let you in on our passion and that you enjoy it!
What a beautiful ride.
This thing is still so bad ass. Had to come back for another dose of HEMI sound! 😎
Our family had a 65 Coronet 440 wagon, with a 383. It was a beast and a lot of fun...
Sooooo collectible, and with original wheels, a BIG like.
He made a sweet ride
Those smiles made me smile....badass Mopar right there
Big smiles in this one!
Even though these cars never went away, they are enjoying a whole new, cool resurgence. They guys that are rocking them aren't just fellas that wanna take them to car shows with doowop music playing and stand around looking. Drive the wheels off them like they were intended to be driven! Rock on!
He definitely drives this one and has fun with it
I saw this car over the weekend at the donut shop in HB. Parked beside it. The car is straight.
It’s really clean and already a 20 year old build
Another vlog where ya smiling all the way through, such a cool ol' school build.
Perfect old school clean/mean machine!
Stealing my heart right here, a beautiful classic Mopar is my dream 🥰🧡🤤🤤 Well done and thanks for sharing!
Coming from the UK it seems crazy to me that car manufacturers were selling this straight out the dealership in the USA, 'hooligan cars' direct to customers, very cool.
Love it and love the channel! Truly BADASS! 🏁🔥😎 Keep the videos comin!
Guy is super down to earth!
He sure is. Pure Huntington Beach hot rod builder
@@AutotopiaLA love it! And love all of your vids! Just watched the gt350 H !!!
I love it. That is the coolest car you've had on the show & you’ve had the privilege of having some nice cars to show us.
Cheers & stay safe everyone😊
Brings me back to high school! Love it!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I LOVE THE MOLARS OF THE LATE 50'S AND EARLY 60"S. THANKS FOR SHARING.
Now that`s really cool , Reminds of a a990 hemi racer back in 64-65
Old school street rod
The owner's philosophy is absolutely perfect. Tons of fun
Hell yeah man more of these type of cars! Love your channel buddy keep em coming
Ahhh, that sound is pure music. Great looking, sounding, and running car. I love the giggles when he jumps on it.
Very sweet car ! Beautiful lines, then you open the hood... wow!
Badass car I'd put it up against new any day love the show keep em come.
What a nice machine - not your same old same old. Love it. Thanks guys.
Cool car .i had a 66 coronet with a Ray Barton built big block .482 ci ……bought over to the uk in 2005 .loved the car ..memories
Great video guys take care ..
There’s a man enjoying his car .smiles says it all .
" it's never done that before " as coolant runs like a faucet underneath the car lol what a beautiful beast love it .
Shawn my man you're really killin it lately finding cars right up my alley brother. I'd love to be in your shoes just for a day. God bless
Had a four door version of this car that belonged to my maternal grandpa. Wasn't nearly as badass as this one but that little 318 drove and drove until she couldn't keep oil in her. Helluva blow by. Used to a use catch can on the dipstick tube and poured it back in and topped her off weekly.
Love the old Mopars!
Gorgeous and badass!
Definitely
That car sounds amazing
The sound of this thing!
Always great to see another one of these Race Hemi's. Reverse manual shifting pattern on the column is great, but try playing with one of these beasts on the street with a 4-speed.
This car reminds me of when I was young totally badass totally awesome I freaking love it thank you
Nothing sounds like an old school Hemi!
I really like this one.
Pure american badass raw no frills muscle! Badass ride!✌😎🤓👍👌
You just did an old man's heart good !! MOPAR OR NO CAR BABY !!!
Absolutely spectacular! That's how ya do it
I like the classic gauges and drum brakes. Thats a car when skill ruled racing. Nice car.
Really Nice car, The Hemi Engine is a Cherry on top. I love to see Mopars
Gotta frickin luv this one badass mopar
nothing like the sound of a hemi thumping away . popcorn popping perfection . id love that motor in my 71 duster .
That is so cool ,the sound a badass car wow
fun to drive, I miss those days,
