I remember playing SOC for the first time, and trying to stealthily kill a Freedom guy with a knife in their base to steal his gear. I could kill the guy in one hit, but for some reason, completely silently killing this one guy in a remote hidden area, sent out a psychic homing signal to every guy in the entire base to single-mindedly hunt me down and kill me.
I always make sure to clear that shithole from rats whenever i make a trip to the army's warehouse getting the loot from ther armory after killing everybody inside it's one of the coolest feelings ever that bulldog 6 and extra grenades are very helpful when you eventually reach the CNPP
Just roll a highly explosive barrel near him and shoot 1 or 2 times, normally it won't trigger them since technically ut wasn't you killing him

Fun fact: that's how i completed(more or less) my first ever playghtrough of my first ever Stalker which was clear sky, solely because i found carrying two guns and switching them in eq too inconvenient, every other shotgun felt inferior, and any AR sucked ass against mutants. I basically thought "lol this gun rocks, the best gun in the game!" and i rolled like this until right about the hospital where i decided to try out the VSS from Forester.

I have a Zone Sportsmanship Challenge for you. Defeat a pseudogiant to Deth using only a knife while wearing no armor and without carrying any bandages or meds. Also, you have to take no damage, so it has to be a "flawless victory." There's a technique to it, but I'll only give you this hint: It involves perfectly-timed jumps. Btw, do you watch WTFSexyHeadphones? She and I have been trying to rekindle interest in Zone Sportsmanship Challenges.
8:08 Is one of the rules of this challenge that you can't make use of the "Zone magic" technique of 'nilla ShoC-style armor-repair? By that, I mean wearing four or five of any artifact that has a protection value of 90, then standing in a corresponding anomaly-go-nuts. Pellicles are the easiest to get since you can earn an unlimited amount of them from Professor Sakharov. Wear four or five of them, then stand in a Fruit Punch. It'll heal you and fix your armor. The higher your armor's protection value for that type of damage effect, the longer it'll take to fix, so the SSP-99M takes a bit longer to fix than the SEVA (or the PSZ-9Md, aka "Duty SEVA") if you stand in a Fruit Punch. Batteries correspond with Electros. Shells correspond with Burners (and also work the same way if you stand in a campfire). Shells are wrongly called "Batteries" in 'nilla ShoC, so some of us old-school zoners took to calling them "Fire Batteries" back in ye olde days of the Zone Survival Guide message board.

In all my time playing STALKER ive only ever killed bandits and zombies with the knife. I cant fuckin imagine being willing to get anywhere near a mutant with it unless i had NO choice
You know, this video made me use the knife more in my current playthru of SoC. Sprin-jumped a bandit and right-clicked him right in the face before he could draw out his shotty. He went down and his friends were all like "WTF" as I darted off into the Dark Valley.
