Can you beat S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl with only unique items?

- GSC Game World had big ambitions for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl, and thus created a whole slew of awesome stuff for us to play with, though the repair/upgrade system didn't make it until the prequel/sequel, giving these unique items nearly limited uses.

If you didn’t knew, there is a unique scorpion (mp5) that shoots starting pistol ammo in the end of the tunnel in the part where you have to kill bandits behind the factory (just before the zone where you pass to the agropom zone)
I do know about it! But it's honestly best left in the Garbage because getting it at full durability is rare, so it wouldn't have been worth the effort going through the bandits to get it.
@@chaoticism Kinda late reply to this video BUT!, sid sells a groza with 5.45/ak ammo for 20k RU b4 you deliver nimble's flashdrive that can also be found on a duty member AND the 2 freedom base guards that don't have exoskeleton both have a sniper SG550 version of the gun which is unique
I always pick up this mp5 change ammo type to the smallest type plenty of ammo and it's a really good weapon once upgraded

If you didn't know, there is a special shotgun at the start of the game if you kill military soldiers until you get "By a country road" stash, which has a unique TOZ. It is the only one in the game due to it's unique ID and name, so by technicality it is the same as the martha pistol despite it being the same as "Hunting Shotgun" from the bar quest. It has the highest shotgun damage in the game. I'd also told you about this on your shotgun only challenge aswell, have you seen the shotgun yet?
You are also able to get a unique army suit from the Barman if you give him a nightstar like sid.
10:48 I've always took a third option: help Duty infiltrate the base and steal the gun amid the crossfire since the guard guy goes away to participate in a fight. Sometimes he doesn't even return. It's fairly easy to do that without angering Freedom as a whole and they don't care about you looting their stash.

This reminds me of when I was a child and played this game even though I didn't really know how. I remember the fast AK. I always used it for a long time, even when the nato guns became available. But as the gun degraded, the crosshair got wider and the weapon more ineffective for me, cause I didn't even aim down sights until I had a scope. I always low crouched for best accuracy cause I probably saw it in some video and figured it's the most effective way lol.
Anyways, because I didn't have a way to repair the gun, I had to switch at some point. I think the fact that you can't repair equipment in this game gives it some advantages which the later titles lack. I'm not trying to say it's realistic cause like hell it is, but it's always given me a sense of urgency, a constant layer to progress, and I like that it forced me to find new gear, cause maybe it was a different suit to try out, which I wouldn't have batted an eye on if I could keep one suit repaired and upgrade it and make it mine like in cop and thus make mostly anything I find useless.
Having my own equipment that is always in tip top condition due to how abundant money is in vanilla stalker made me feel too secure for how hostile and aggressive the zone portrays itself to be. SOC is the only stalker game where you don't have this sense of superiority as much, cause any enemy may drop a gun in better condition than yours, and so the field is more level.
I don't play videogames much anymore although they were a huge part of my life, for better or worse. Thanks for the nicely done video that's brought me down the memory lane.
Oh yeah lad, there is a way to repair weapons and armor. If you want to repair armor you need to get artifacts that give +30% resistance 4 at least, but 5 will be optimal. I suppose battery is the best one, a lot of them are available throughout the zone, and to mend your piece of equipment just stay in the anomaly and look how your health and armor bars replenish.
And for weapons, you can drop them to NPCs and upon death it will have a condition of 70%+. Also you can try to make them beg for medic bag (Dallaaaas), and weapon will be in perfect condition, when they will drop it of course.
I think this run might have been easier with the Thunder 5.45 weapon. Also, will you make any challenge for Clear Sky?
I may! You can't do weapon specific challenges, as they'd end in automatic failure at the end. But I do have ideas to up the ante.

i also found a way to completely skip the scorcher by complete accident, you know the path directly to chernobyl during that mission? It tells you to turn back because of psi emission kill the guards and use kits or bandages and just run through to the new area and bam itll act as if you turned off the brain scorcher

Same didnt know that the scorcher actually did damage so i tried exploring pripyat stash without scorcher mission, 1 medkit was enough
I beat the game with that ak-74 from Strelok shelter ( 3:20 ), so I never thought beating a SoC with unique weapon is a challenge...
However, video is cool, because you show most of unique equipment and just fun to see how you play and comment that

@@LuisC7 you can drop it to enemies with pistols or worse guns. When they will pick it, condition should increase. Or you can try to lay them down (not kill, just make them beg for medic bag) with bullets, cuz when they will fall, any gun should be in perfect condition

If I remember right, there's a unique 9×18 smg in the tunnel near the Agropom/Garbage exit (the one with a bunch of electro anomalies).
Considering how common 9×18 is early game, it's worth a look.

I will not be doing a pistol only run in the near future. Maybe as a live stream if I get more followers, and without the Big Ben, as I've already done it casually. I'm working on a Call of Pripyat video but I have some better stuff planned for the STALKER series!
KOS'ing isnt a very good idea,considering it means killing every quest character who arent invincible which could potentially soft lock.
as I've heard, KOS of this game is possible. every killed quest NPC will give needed info and quests if you search the corpse. so there should be no soft locks

IDk if it happens on newer builds but sidorovich can spawn a 5.45 groza at the begining before you do nibles quest. A stash may spawn a unique"upraded" leather jacket in cordon.
Dead military guy has a unique beril suit in yantar.
Also, technically the ssp9m ecologist rewarded for said berryl is one of a kind in the game. A bandit drops an uprgaded obokan and a chaser in dark valley, stalkers drop upgraded Sa80 where wolf died.
2 freedom members have upgraded scoped sig-55k. Not really that unique but 2 of a kind I guess so it may not count. Also sniper obokan on a Oleg Fiend Gusarov...
Actually got surprised when I saw the number of views. My actually non-related to stalker friend sent me a link to this video, so I thoguht that this is from another popular challenge channels. You can use shift + F to pick up metal boxes and drop them to the ground to open them.
This channel is pure gem
To be honest, you could've went for best weapon in your arsenal with these rules - Upgraded VLA Assault Rifle (slightly better accuracy than VLA, same damage output and you can use sniper scope on it - reward from defending Duty guy from bandits, one of initial missions you get by entering Dark Valley first time) by joining Duty and doing few of main quests from their leader after getting documents from Yantar. Other good weapon for usage has 2 Freedom guards accessing Freedom base from Red Forest side, not from exploded wall (those actually are superior to Sniper TR301 Rifle. Prev. saw guy mentioned in Garbage tunnel, where train is, at the end of tunnel there lays stalker who has in inventory was MP5 gun - upgrade that uses 9mm ammo I would say cheap gun for long run. Just in case you are wondering about improvements on guns. For armor, Ghost suit ain't that bad of a choice due to it's healing abilities, however choice of freedom one (lighter, more bulletproof cap) ain't bad either during Red Forest arc. Great choice, Sir.
So, I'm impressed you died so few times with unique equipment alone in CNPP/CNPP2 and Brain Scorcher areas. Keep it up, man!
for weapons, it doesn't matter because you can buy the thunder 5.45 from sidorovich if you don't talk to wolf in the village, so you just can buy one of the best "unique" weapons and re-buy it when it breaks

you can repair any item with over 100% protection that artifacte cam grant you ex: 120 flame/acid resist by standing in the corresponding anomaly

From memory, it lacks the Silenced Viper, the "pistol bullets" Viper, the Storm Obokan, the Combat Chaser, the Threaded SPAS, the Balanced IL86, the Silenced Pistol (from Sparrow) and the "AK bullets" Tunder (from Barin), altough they all require to kill their owner and then are never in mint condition, except the special Tunder you can also buy if you are lucky.
i actually liked the fact you chose the Sniper TRS, it is one of my fav weapon, even if it is far for being one of the bests.
Guitar belongs top the dead loner stalker and there is a quest about it. The quest is based on a fan-fic novel that was written when the game was first released. There was a novel competition.

Unique AK 74 is one of the best rifles in the game tbh. I always used it untill the SIG G36 and 9x39 weapons came along.

I just remembered that there are two Expert-level Bandits that lurk in Agroprom after you shut off the Psi Emitter in X16 and meet with Guide. One has a unique AN-94 with an underbarrel grenade launcher, and the other has the rifled SPAS-12. I think their weapon conditions are randomized though.
You can meet them i the dark valley before entering x18

Should have used the susat unique sniper SGI-5k, honestly one of my favourite weapons in the game, because having the susat makes it a perfect rifle. Always end up getting it with low durability though.

I love that idea your are running with, nobody does this on stalker like they do on fallout, but slow it down just a little bit, or even re voice this a little longer, I feel that the speed you talk at makes it hard to get immersed, not hate, I have mad respect for anyone doing stalker content, but slowing it down will give us a real story and get you more money from longer vids, it’s a win win, you’ve earned a sub from me keep working bro

I remember that 3 way hall in the CNPP really well, so when I ran through there in Anomaly I just brought an RPG and a grenade launcher and blew up anything that moved, including myself.
The die - reload game - die cycle struck a chord with me from my memories of the game. Plus, there are so many secrets and nooks to explore (I remember the first time I realised you could enter the stadium at Pripyat, before the NPP)
How do you enter the stadium?

Perhaps it was worth changing the sniper TRs-301 to the sniper AS VAL from Voronin, he gives the task after the X-16.
Not even exoskeleton monoliths stand a chance against the mighty 9x39 cartridge Vintar + Thunder are always my go to for Pripyat/CNPP

In freedom's quest to kill dutiers you can walk up to the dutiers alone and RMB each of them in the face, for some reason they do not agro, and you can kill them all without firing a bullet. Perhaps it can work on freedom's arsenal guard.

I maybe not last, and definitely not first person to tell you but... In Agroprom underground, group of bandit have a chance to spawn two unique bandits both with unique weapons one with AN-94 abakan 5.45 Assault Rifle with integrated GP-25 Underbarrel Grenade launcher, and Other with SPSA-14 highest teer shotgun. Where was unique MP-Viper 5 hidden between anomalies near train depot chambered for abundant 9x18. Best unique in the game sold Sidorovich in first location, it is best close-to-medium range weapon in the game, called GROM it is 5.45x39 chambered GROZA with almost same damage and same accuracy, you only need 30000 rubles to buy it oh and luck so then you get the sum he would actually sell it to you.

For my first playthrough, i beat it with Strelok's AK. And yes, it was on hard difficulty. And yes, it took thousands upon thousands of rounds, and the AK was down to 30% condition xd

after the first duty patrol point on garbage you can get a Tunder S14 ( that shoots the ak 47 ammo), after the first duty patrol point there is a duty`s NPC. he is Patrolling alone in the Beginning of the "bar" area (he is the first you see and if you lucky... the dogs kill him for you ), or near the "army warehouses" entrance point.
you can´t fit a scope on Tunder S14 but still its a great weapon ( maybe the best weapon in the game)
Actually knife ain't unique weapon. If you will run immediately to the bar and talk with arena guy, he will provide a knife. And if you come back to the starting location and talk to the wolf he will give you the 2nd.
Tourist's suit only gives extra 10 kg weight capacity, cuz you can't go over the limit of 70 by 10, but you can do it with any other outfit, except exo. So yeah. Quite cheeky, but it is stalker. Nice video lol, best wishes from Russia mate

If you wound an NPC, he will drop the weapon in 100% condition. Also on the Cordon there is a stash with an anomaly leather jacket that greatly restores health and bleeding and is an OP.
That leather jacket ('Skinner Anomaly') sucks, apparently it works like a Stone Blood/Meat Chunk/Soul artifact, slowly replenishes health but takes away your bulletproof cap.

@@AspirinSGD Did you by any chance saw the stats for that suit in the game files (I didn't). I just remember they killed me way easier wearing that in contrast to ordinary leather jacket. Bleeding was also insane. But I'm playing the original game you could be playing a third party mod, which is something else.

My favorite weapon in the SoC was the Groza modded to work with lesser ak ammo. I think it's owned by a duty guy at the checkpoint where dogs attack but I am not always able to get it and I don't kill friendly npc-s.
There's a chance to get if from Sidorovich before talking to Wolf about Recuing Nimble but it has like a 10% chance and costs about 20000 Rubles
