Project Farm channel on youtube, this guy did all kind of tests with motoroil, and other stuf
Paesano: we have been using Costco branded synthetic oils for a decade now with very good results. It comes 10 quarts on a box for about $25. That is two oil changes for 25 bucks. We also bought a box with 12 oil filters in Amazon
I worked at a hospital that had dozens of tempering valves up in the ceiling (for the electronic faucets), and after about 5 or 6 years in service we started having problems with them, hot backing up into the cold side, this vid gives me bad memories, lol. How do you take your coffee? Like I take my plumbing jobs, momma, with a scoop of leakah and a pinch of chit show!
I get the Kirkland Full synthetic oil from Costco. It’s like $25 for 2 gallons. If you don’t have Costco just run Mobil 1. 100k miles on Kirkland oil changed every 5k miles. No problems
2005 Toyota Corolla 260,000 miles daily driver. Change my oil every 6000 miles or Fall and Late spring. Used Mobil 1 for 4-5 years, then either Pennzoil, Castrol FULL Synthetics or again Mobil 1 whatever is on sale. Had zero issues with my engine (no oil burning or leaks). Location is Albany NY. FYI- Happy Motoring Steve.
Castrol advance full synthetic oil is the best for older engines. 😊
Amsoil and Wix filters will never let you down. Really though, any decent name brand oil is fine. The determining factor in good protection is doing oil and filter changes at or before the recommended intervals. Amsoil is the only *100% synthetic* oil. Others can only claim "Full Synthetic" and they all use a crude oil base.
I watch Ford Boss Me on CZcams and he has been doing testing on numerous engine oils and sent them out for lab testing to check for content.
The results were very suprising on some of them! Schaeffer oil was the sleeper!
Steve, honestly any full synthetic oil will work just fine,if price is a factor Kirkland from Costco is a great oil,but you mostly want to make sure the weight is correct,if it says 0W40 dont stray and use 5W30,it will screw up your timing!
I run the Kirkland full synthetic from Costco and it works great and good price
Been using the Kirkland oil(Warren oil) for like 8 years, ots excellent oil
0w-20 full synthetic Kirkland brand from Costco has treated me well.
Miss Molly is the PERFECT valentine Steve! She is loyal, doesn’t try to change you, doesn’t complain when you don’t put the toilet seat down and you don’t have to buy her jewelry!🤣
@Sox4life M >>> Oh Miss molly expects that time worthy bling bling every so often...... how she going to know she feels wanted.... 😉😂 You couldn't say no to her surely? 🤨😮
good job
I like Steve is also a therapist when working these jobs. I use regular oil and change every 2500 miles and with synthetic every 5k. My father taught me to use those numbers since easy to remember. I would say if you are changing oil reguraly does not really matter the type of oil you use. The ones that complain about inferior filters and oil never change there oil.
I´ve been into cars my whole life. To be honest, in my opinion and experience, it does not matter what oil brand you use as long as it is synthetic any you change it often enough. WIX filters are great and cheap. No need for "synthetic" filters unless you use prolonged change intervals.
Just change your oil every 5-7k miles with a good (but not fancy) synthetic of the right viscosity (most important, more than the brand or type) and you will be fine.
I never had an engine failure and my highest mileage car (daily driver, Lincoln TC) just passed 270k miles.
I saw a test somewhere where the napa gold and napa gold platinum were compared. The gold did a better job than the fully synthetic. The only reason to use synthetic like you said is for long intervals. My mercedes and Porsche both had 10k intervals. I never did that once. I did once a season or every 5000 miles. 0 reason to go more than 5000 miles. Peace of mind right at the 5k mark.
Hey Steve- I use Mobil 1 exclusively along with the Mobil 1 filter. I do the changes every 6k. My vehicle has 284k and no issues whatsoever. Depending on how much oil the engine takes, I usually buy the oil change special that Advance Auto has every month. 5qt oil and a filter for $34-$42. Depending on the special. I know people will have different recommendations but this is what works for me and it's very reasonably priced.
I'm going to second the Mobil 1!
see project farm...mobil 1 ppppt 👎
Ford Boss Me channel just did a ton of oil testing and reviews,Mobil 1 was not the best,I use it but I also love the Kirkland Synthetic from Costco, great oil and great price! I just picked up 2 5 qt jugs for $29 Its every bit as good as Mobil 1 according to the tests
Walmart sells a 5 quart container of various Mobil 1 formulations. As I recall, it was cheaper than five qt bottles.
Mileage should not be an indicator for oil changes. Hours of operation and accumulated load are the true factors that affect oil life. Most newer vehicles compute those parameters and flag when a change is due.
Howdy Steve and Molly
A few years ago me and my neighbor did some amateur plumbing at his house. Water kept dripping and cooling the solder joint. Finally we stuffed bread up the line. It stopped the drip and dissolved and flushed out later. The dripping reminded me of that.
Mobil 1. Been running it in a dozen 6.2 ford's for 10 years. All still run strong no blow by or smoke
I use mobil 1 with the manufacture oil filter ... got over two vehicles with 200000 plus miles no problems....
Steve, You can't go wrong with Mobil 1 in your truck. I also like Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic. Wix filters are the best! Good luck with the new truck! (Miss Molly Loves Workin!)
Pennzoil is good stuff
2010 Toyota Tundra 5.7L. 255k miles. Oil and filter change every 5k, no exceptions. I use the truck for work every day. I have used COSTCO full syn since they first came out with it (about 8 years now, I think.) Before that Amazon full syn for a few years. Like others have said, It isn't the cost of the oil that makes it better. Regular and correct maintenance is the key.
Amsol is said to be the best but due to it's high cost I use either Valvoline or Mobile 1 full synthetic. They are the two highest rated full synthetic oils recommended by the majority of guys in the auto repair business. I was using Valvoline in my vehicles but switched to Mobile 1 full synthetic because it exceeds the manufacturers requirements and it is always available at Walmart way below what you would pay at the parts store. When it comes to filters I try to stick with the OEM product.
I stopped using Wix filters and went over to K&N filters 5 years ago. The Wix filters had filtering material that was like cardboard, K&N has a nice media filtering material design.
A u tuber called project farm did a show on oil filters , he's a thinker im almost sure the outcome of several different names brands were similar , not much difference
Dear Steve. I just want to add one more concept, to the "Oil Filter" discussion/debate. Get this straight. What matters is how the filter FLOWS. Some of the more expensive filters claim to be able to filter out smaller and smaller particles. THIS IS A CANARD. What really matters is how the filter flows, because the correct flow is what keeps the correct pressure on the oil as it moves through the engine. Wix has this all figured out. So does Toyota, but you don't have a Toyota engine.... Wix will work great! Skip and avoid all the filters that cost more and restrict the flow of oil excessively.
I highly recommend Schaeffer oil, use it in my gas trucks, diesel trucks, tractors, skid steer, and all my equipment. 👍🏻
Skip Amsoil too expensive grab Mobil 1 from Walmart, Wix filters are also very good.
Well you learn me something today , i never knew they was such a thing as that ........... 61 and still learning ...
Hey Steve and Miss Molly! Workin’ again y’all. 👍👍. It’s a leaker mama!
Project farm channel on CZcams test oils. Pennzoil synthetic blend had the lowest scoring count. I would check out his channel and make the decision for yourself 🙏
Any name brand synthetic will do. There's a scientific test done of each brand by a youtuber named "Project Farm" that determined Pennzoil Ultra Platinum to be the best in almost every parameter
Woodworker - Powermatic it appears. Seen Steve do a lot of slip couplings but not unions.
mobil1 full synthetic, you aint driving no lamborghini there mama.
I have been using Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic along with a FRAM Ultra Synthetic Oil Filter in all my vehicles for years. One of my vehicles has almost 200k miles and does not burn any oil, not even a puff of smoke at start up, I feel that this combination has kept the piston rings from wearing. I buy the oil and filter at my local Walmart and change the oil and filter myself to save money.
another nice job, buddy. appreciate the 1/2" union there to make service easier in the future.
Steve, any name brand synthetic will do the job. I would buy your oil at Walmart. Walmart has the cheapest prices on oil out of any store. Get a name brand that’s the cheapest. That’s what I’ve been doing for years. Sometimes the cheapest is Mobil 1 other times it’s Pennzoil platinum or maybe Castrol edge etc. Just make sure the oil you use meets the required specifications for your work vehicle and you change it at it’s required interval. Also Wix is an excellent choice for an oil filter.
Maintaining the same brand oil is recommended as well so its best to choose "the brand" when its on sale vs. whats on sale "today". Wix XP are a great choice, yes.
Castrol GTX for break in and Mobil 1 synthetic after that. Never let me down. I always use factory oil filters, no exceptions.
Hey Steve, great videos thanks I’ve been using mobile1 and Wix filters for years no problems
Hey Stephen I really prefer amsoil oil but my next synthetic oil would be mobile one and wixs makes a great synthetic filter I'll change my oil every 5000 miles I use mobile one and a wixs filter and when it's time to change the oil the oil always looks really good still nice and clean I have for plumbing Vans and that's all I run in them
A buddy of mine does hvac he got me some copper so I can practice soldering soft solder
Get an infrared thermometer Steve it will save you a lot of time. Great job on this as always.
SuperTech synthetic is as good or better than mobil 1 for less cost as well
Over the years I've had great luck with Mobile 1 full synthetic oil. Zero sludge while I've used it. I ran amsoil in several motors of mine for a while and noted increased engine noise while using it so I switched back to mobile 1 with no issues
I just go with Castro full synthetic is good for long miles and good protection for the engines use for sure.
I ran Amsoil for years with their 25,000 filter, after I had Brian from @FordTechMakuloco do my timing on my 2007 F150, I followed his recommendations. Motorcraft filter because of the anti bypass and 100% synthetic Pennzoil. The guy is a Ford wizard, and I am lucky he is just an hr drive from me. Any work I don't feel comfortable doing, I will take that hr drive!
Just another day with Steve, talking about 1/2" pipe unions, and IBS. 😂
Mobil One is always my go to for full synthetic. May be a little higher than some others but i think it is well worth it.
Project Farm likes Penzoil full synthetic based on his testing.
I use NAPA Full Synthetic in my 2015 F150. It is a Valvoline product and you can catch it on sale for 18 bucks or so at your NAPA retailer. I use the Motorcraft oil filter.
I would pick a synthetic and do oil analysis. Blackstone-labs is good. It gets you out ahead of any wear or dirt related issues before they cause damage and you can see how the oil is performing for you.
mobil 1 full synthetic in all my vehicles. i happen to use K+N oil filters and arguments aside they've treated me well over the years, too.
My dad had an electrician plumb in a toilet for him a while back and accidentally hooked it to the hot water. He said I’m an electrician I’m used to hooking things to the hot side of the line.
If you change regularly you can use any of them. Pennsville is best because it made from natural gas not oil. But change every 5000 miles is best.
I think that any fully synthetic oil would be good, just change every 5k. The Amsoil is probably the best, and extends time between changes, but I don’t think it offsets the higher price. Just do more frequent changes.
@marc Rothchild >> Try 3000 - 4000 miles max. (Fully synthetic) Remember oil is cheaper then a new engine....... Prevention is cheaper than a full repair. Never ever go by what they say on the bottle it's a average rating it depends on use..... stop start change it more times, highway mileage a little less, in storage after every 6 months or next big usage.
@@gettogo0159 I agree 100 percent, I run my engines to high mileage. I buy filters and oil by the case, it is much cheaper this way. The synthetic helps with cold starts in the winter.
@@davidbrennan5 That very true if you are going maintain an engine etc you take look after it till you sell it or it's too far gone for anymore use. You can tell if someone has maintained it compared to ones that ain't. Mileage is the first sign in most cases.
Black no sugar! Good Man.
Reminds me of when I became old enough to drink coffee in my parents eyes and my grandmother offered me some coffee she asked how I liked it and i said black no sugar she said good that`s the way a man should drink it.
I run amsoil full synthetic in my f250 6.7 diesel. its pricey, but I send my oil off for analysis regularly. It holds up better than some of the other oils I've used.
I also run this in my gas truck. 159k miles still no issues 😊
Years back I read an article that stated purolator or wix filters were on the top of the list as far as quality.... I always used Mobil 1 full synthetic in my vehicles until it became a problem to get my hands on... (probably gonna get flamed for saying this, but...) I now run the Amazon Basics full synthetic. I personally know a Nissan certified tech (wife drives a pathfinder) and even he recommended just going with the Amazon full synth. oil... So now I get my 5 qt. jug and filter from there....
Nice job - good idea w/the union.
I personally go for Mobil 1 full synthetic, I run the appropriate variety in both my gas and diesel. No problems so far, and like you, I like going with the full synthetic.
I also made the switch
Wix makes damn good filters. There is allot of info online where they actually lab test various oils for the percentages of all their additives etc..
Wix filters got bought out by chinese company not the same as used to be
Wix filters are great. Also check out Pennzoil ultra synthetic oil. Best of luck with the new truck!
Nice job Steve thanks 👍
Hey Steve I would run what it came with from the factory too avoid sludge . Pensoil is a good American oil .
Great Video. Thank you for sharing
Mobil 1 5w-30. 5000 +/- interval. I use it in all my vehicles. Purolator oil filters. I have a 4 cylinder nearing 300k, 3 cars at 225k and 2 at 180k. I buy it by the case of 6 qts at Costco. Goes on sale every couple months.
Mobil 1. We race with it and have it in our F150 with 185,000 miles that pulls it to the track weekly.
I use Castrol Edge with Wix in my Chevy 2500. Can’t go wrong. I’ve heard good things about shell rotella for gas engines though. Look into that
ANY full synthetic motor oil is good enough. Just go pick them up at Walmart for best price. I've ran Costco Kirkland full synthetic oil and they are good too. I run full synthetic for 10,000 miles between oil changes. If you have large oil capacity... 6+ quarts, should be fine. If 5 or lower quarts, 8000 miles between changes. That is for normal driving conditions. I think Steve will be fine wtih 7500 miles oil changes. Use WIX XP oil filters.
Steve I use mobile one oil filter I use a mobile one oil My Subaru outback 2016 020 change oil myself
I would probably go with the mobile 1 or maybe Valvoline That's what I put in my personal truck and my work truck with the wicks filters
Project Farm had good things to say about the Walmart brand Super Tech since it was performing in the top tier of a handful of synthetic oils. I was surprised and then I found out that the Amazon and Costco Kirland brand Full Synthetic oil was also a good qudality which both are supplied by Warren Distribution. Of all places to buy engine oil, Walmart seems to have the best prices however, they do not always have what you want on the shelf. Mobile 1 is typically easy to find and is priced well so that is our go to Full Synthetic with the Wix XP filters.
Another great video Steve, I too recommend Mobil1 with the corresponding filter! I've used it for years on my work truck, 250 thousand miles, I think shows how reliable it is?
felicitari, mai invat cate ceva de la tine , nu stiam ca este asa ceva, multumesc pentru video
Steve, you take your coffee just like ol` "Bogie" did.
A mechanic told me that he would pour some oil into the filter before installing it to avoid that few seconds of no oil flow until the otherwise empty filter filled with oil and built-up oil pressure. A little tech tip.
I am an Amsoil dealer and only use Amsoil in all my vehicles. Ill sell it to you cheaper than retail if you want it. I use the Signature Series which is supposed to be a 25,000 mile oil but I change it every 10,000 miles and it actually improves my MPG slightly
Steve, I would use the recommended oil in owners manual, if any upgrades go by what ford recommends. I have been taking care of my vehicles for years with no problems!
I run Amsoil in everything, even the Onan/318.... I think regular service is key whatever you decide
I run Mobil 1.
Have to use weight engine calls for because of internal engine oil flows, small openings etc.
hey steve use mobil 1 oli and mobil 1 oil filter is the best one to use and you get better milage
Hi Steve, I have heard of lifter/cam problems with the Godzilla motor with as little as 20 k mi. some suggest adding zinc to your oil if you have a good mechanic ask about it, just trying to give you a heads up. I enjoy your videos!
I can't forget about Miss Molly she's just a lovable dog and our CZcams Star
MOBIL 1 full synthetic I Have a Toyota Tacoma with 387987 miles no problem good luck great job in the water closet aka toilet
Amsoil is the best but I don't think it's worth the extra money you'll spend in the long run. All Synthetic Oil with the Petroleum Seal is good. They are all required to have a significant amount of detergents. I've used the Kirkland Signature full synthetic oil from Costco. Seems to work good and is cheap.
I like royal purple and mobile 1 for synthetic oil
Steve, Pennzoil Ultra came in second behind Amsoil in a oil durability test.
Pennzoil ultimate platinum comes in second most tests I've seen.
Mobil 1 synthetic!
185 000 miles and still going strong !
You Ever flush those tankless coils steve ! I did alot in the 80's * special pump - hydrochloric acid ! Wow what a difference! But ya can only do it 2 -3 Times * over the years *
Royal purple Steve it’s great
Hi Steve, I always use full-synthetic oil. I wait for a sale/special for an oil/filter because oil is so expensive. I change mine every 7500 miles. Never had a issue.
Steve, Amsoil is incredible but also very expensive and hard to find. One of the best common "off the shelf" brands of oil is Valvoline. Valvoline has some of the best full synthetic oils out there and I swear by it in my 2009 Ford Ranger. I run a Royal Purple filter also but I'll leave the filter choice more up to you.
Amsoil is not hard to find... You can order it right from their website and have it in a few days.
Farm and Fleet carries it by me...
In my opinion, changing the oil regularly is more important than oil brand. I use Castrol, but I really think all GF-6 synthetic oils are fine to use. I also only by the OEM oil filters, they were specifically designed for that engine.
And hey Stephen I change my own oil and filter I've had places before not tighten the filter and not tighten the oil plug do-it-yourself that way you know it's done right take care
Thanks for the gallbladder information Steve. I think I’ll keep mine for now. Lol.
Steve just run mobile one full synthetic. It's good shit. We've got a few of them 7.3 engines and they have seen it since brand new no issues. All of our Ford service trucks have mobile one synthetic and we run in hard conditions with a lot of idling time. I manage a fleet of equipment at a rigging company here in Massachusetts so I'm not the harry homeowner oil change guy haha. Diesel engines, Rotella 15-40. gas engines mobile1 whatever weight it calls for.
Steve MANN filters are the best. They are used on German cars. Probably best filters out there. Heavy as heck !
Look at the owners' manual for minimum recommended "extreme" ratings, viscosity, and intervals. Never go below that. Your stop-and-go with a very heavy load in highly variable weather is brutal, so you want very frequent oil changes.
There is a lot of marketing confusion with "synthetic" oil. Only a few are really high quality. So be careful and do your research. Banks Speed School has a video "What's in synthetic Motor Oil" that is worth a view.
Oil really suffers from new "environmental schemes" like: exhaust gas recirculation, tight piston ring tolerances, ultra high pressure direct injection. Nothing like engines from a few decades ago.
We smell the oil for gasoline weekly; that typically indicates failing high pressure fuel pump which needs to be addressed ASAP. Oil gets diluted and level gets too high.
An oil catch can might help keep the oil and passages cleaner. I'm not sure if that is applicable to your truck. They are not easy to install correctly so maybe a reputable shop offers one for your engine with install instructions.
Any name brand is good has to have same standards .
Castrol edge is really good....
I use mobil1 and wix filters works great for me, my truck has 226,000 Miles
Hey tough guy I use Royal purple 💜 have 4 years on my 2011 gmc with wix filter 150 000 miles
Wix filter and Amsoil definitely. You have the right idea.
I like Mobil 1 full synthetic oil with Wix filters and have used them for many years in various cars and trucks
