- Welcome to a series of interviews with the Fighting Men of Rhodesia as Hannes Wessels & I try to record the war stories of these outstanding warriors.
The Rhodesian forces produced some of the finest fighting soldiers and airmen of the era and Wally Insch, who served with the Selous Scouts is one of those men.

He is the strongest man I know. My superman. My Dad ❤️
I’m so grateful he made it out of there.
So glad it’s being documented. Thank you
I remember 1984, my friend Dean leant me a book on the Rhodesian conflict.
I sighed because initially I thought I was getting an SAS book about Britain and Northern Ireland.
Out of boredom I read the Rhodesian book and I was completely blown away by the courage of men like your Dad.
The civilised world has no idea of the bravery(!) And savagery (!!)on the other side.
I thought Insch was a German name, but this video set me straight.
What a Father!!
God bless that man.
@@royalordinance what's the name of the book you read?
The book was Selous Scouts, I think.
May have been "the elite".
Long time ago.
Kellie ❤
I'd love to have a beer with Wally and enjoy all the stories from the old day's maybe more than just one beer! Respect to a great man
Here we go... the real McCoy... tip of the spear... respect!
Original Rhodie mould - only a few of those types around; unique men.
The courage of this guy is legendary!
Uncle Wally, absolute LEGEND!!!
Absolutely
What a Wally !!!!😝
I am so glad to have found this channel. Thank you all for your service.
That level of bravery is astounding, to say the very least. What a privilege to have known such courageous and spirited Men.
Rhodesia and SA gave some really frightening soldiers, even hard-bitten German SS were intimidated.
Very Special.
Was your dad Ron?!? Much respect sir
@@kommando5562 Yes Sir !
That took nuts. Play the captured mlungu who could have taken a flying stone or blade or bullet at any moment. Nerves of steel.
I was introduced to this man in 1982 in Amanzimtoti at a braai by a lady called Lynn McNamara ... It was a very memorable occasion. The braai kicked off on Friday and ended Monday morning 😂😂😂
Wally thank you for your bravery . You are a man of real valour and I stand in ore of your escapades during the war. A special man indeed.
What a character, pleasure to meet you Mr Insch. Thanks John and Hannes okes a legend.
Amazing! It’s such a pity men like this are so few and far between nowadays. Loads of respect!
Wally don't spill it :-) Good one Brother.
Eish, beer would have got warm China. Cheers for manne such as you!

No clothes but knows where his rifle is. True Rhodesian ❤️

Wally that is true commitment and courage like no other ! Legend of legends ! Tatenda madorda 👍👍🙏🏻 . Taking klaps from a wild vakadzi (woman ) naked .. 😂😂 that’s commitment, a true warrior 👏👏👌🏻
Thanks so much Wally for those stories... come back chop chop we want more like this one .. thanks Hannes and John 🙏🏻 respect and salute!
Absolute legend. Please keep the stories coming. We are so privileged to have these pieces a history documented.
Thank you for another informative interview. Wally is a very interesting gentleman with a unique perspective of the conflict. To call him brave would be an understatement.
Can you imagine trying to get this action passed by the CO in any NATO led SF force today? lol, it's crazy beyond belief but he did it lol. Pure magic Wally, i am really looking forward to part 2. Hannes, great work with a tough connection. Cheers boys.
Thanks Moose!
I went to Milton Jnr. A Boarder, my wife went to Jameson. We are both 77
I love it! Best counter insurgency fighters in the modern world. And such a well done video and interview.
Wally the faith you had in your men when you were abducted was astounding. Your life was in their hands.
So far two former Terrs have disliked this video :)
Thanks Gents, what a fantastic character. Brave and fearless. Loved the Chabuli on hand during interview. A proper Rhodie 😎
Glad you enjoyed it
Mr. Inch you are a true worrier...
Nerves of steel , brave man , respect
I grew up in Gwanda Vubachekwe Mine
Total respect.
In awe of your bravery Wally. Thank you for your service.
Wally Insch was THE MAN a pure Scottish fighting man.
Amazing work Wally. And a first class series Hannes & John.
This American likes this video and highly recommends it. This American Has a Son in the U.S. Army Green Berets. My Uncles were combat veterans of WW2 . No one can Deny that the Rhodesian’s stand Tip Toe with the Greeks at Thermopylae , Henry the Fifth at Agincourt , the Brits at Rourke s Drift and the Marines at Guadalcanal and the Chosin Resevoir. The Rhodesian’s do have the distinction of fighting on in the face of overwhelming odds and adversities few other militaries have had to cope with.
BOET you have big Machendes, Respect. Since my Life I have never seen a Rhodsian, Chibboliie in hand talk for so long and not take a sipp🙏🤜🤛
Chibboliie.... not a word you hear much here in SA. Learnt it from my Zim mates at university in Pietermaritzburg in the 80s.
@@markwinter7511 BOET 💯 Percent Rhodesian slang EXSE 🍻🤜🤛
Wow! I used to work with Wally. Glad to see he’s still getting around.
Loved listening to his stories when we had lunches together.
Thank you Sir for your immense service and courage and for getting your experiences recorded....will be great to hear more from you but this was a fascinating insight into how pseudo ops really worked and how much trust and understanding you put in your Teams....take care
I used to work with Wally in the QLD gas fields, he was such a talented and interesting man.
He designed and constructed the revolving mechanism in Auckland's Sky Tower when he lived in NZ. Top bloke
Balls of brass, uncompromised dedication to duty!
brass my arse...Tungsten Steel!
Dedication compromised by communist crap in US . . then by Carter . . these days by Biden & Trump & co
BRILLIANT !!!
Brave, tough man he is! Thanks Hannes and John.
Looking forward to the next video
Excellent stuff as always 👍
what a generation of real warriors
True Champion. "I don't know where I learned it, but I was able to dispatch them". Thank you so much for sharing.
They should make movies about these guys.
I remember my late husband, Ed Hull talking about him.
What balls it took to do that, my word!
My father in-law Ian (Jock) Wood was a Scot who came to Rhodie in the middle fifties, to work on the railways. My father Joe Kleynhans knew your Dad. Respect
Great stuff,very brave manna
Thank you so much for this discussion and insight into this great soldier. Much respect, and thanks to you both for your time and service.
Great podcast. As per usual, highly entertaining. Courage. Huge nackers. Men of men .
Much appreciated
These are remarkable stories I tell you what! Such an overlooked history and overlooked war that I find very interesting and fascinating! As an American and also former united States soldier at twenty nine years of age, I grew up learning the history of the first and second world war whom I have had relatives serve in, as well as relatives who served in Vietnam but not the soviet Afghan war, which I also find a great interest in. I find the history of the Rhodesian bush war and Angolan war far more fascinating than my own country's conflict in war. You men were and still are the salt of the earth and you did everything you could in your own hearts and minds to do what was right. Such a shame that we could not aid you all in any way as we chose to turn a blind eye to the fact. We knew what we did was wrong but we did anyway. please forgive my past generation sir. Keep up the good content and I wish one day to have some beers with old soldiers such as yourselves and hear first accounts of your actions firsthand face to face. Greetings from Mississippi!! Cheers mate!!
Thank you for your kind words William!
Very interesting. I assume that in both these 'aductions' you were still in Rhodesia, and not carted over the border into Mozambique? Seems a ludicrously risky thing to do to get up close and personal with the enemy, but I guess that just about sums up the whole Selous Scouts' philosophy! Did you receive a bravery award? It staggers me that in the entire Rhodesian Bush War there were only two GCV awarded. Compared to other countries, it seems that the criteria for top medals was exceptionally high.
Talking of Gwanda, I have a relative by marriage who was the first white born at the church mission there. He's still alive.
Wow I had absolutely no idea what I was getting into when I started watching! Incredible story.
Amazing story ..
Eish, talk about putting your life on the line..... Looking forward to the next episode.
Another great interview you guys. I also like the beer between the legs and the shot in his hand.
Keep up all the good work you do with this interviews/conversations👍
Really intresting to listen to,i allways look forward to it👍
I was there Wally, Boli, You have cleared a big grey area for me Shamwari.
Warrior.
Great job on the "balloons" to interpret the slang. Even a lot of Rhodesian slang could benefit from this. "Ek se, doppies," etc.
First the Beaver now Wally...when are June and Ward coming on your wonderful podcast? Eddy might be fun as well?
Just incredible! Thanks for keeping the records! Thank you sir for your courage and dedication! 37.25 Our lady friend! TBFK!
Thank you for another great video John.
Very welcome
Big balls to play games with the enemy. Look forward to round 2.
The turtle!
Hey.. can anyone please tell me if there is a podcast version of these videos available.. or how to get audio only versions on an android device.. ?? Cheers
"This bloody woman, she is no longer with us . . .."
Also the first podcast (I have listened to all of them), that highlights hostile povo. I wonder what was different about them?
Wally chalogue tortoise LOL such a character salute you sir
Comrade of my dad, buffalo Bill
I look forward to these films but the sound is so bad I just can’t hear the conversation properly
Headphones, even cheap ones, will make a big difference. 🙃
Good old fashioned Border Reiver aka Cattle Bandit
Same class of soldier like Schullie and Andre Rabie
Pamwe Chete !
His nickname shoulda been Grapefruits 'cause that's probably what it took to do 2 abductions like that
victory !
I guess the old gal was shocked getting smoked by a naked guy
Maybe the tortoise shocked her more.
@@tigershoot 😂
@@tigershoot Dude, I just spat my coffee over the laptop, lol, pure gold.
Imagine if people could have just worked together.
I couldn't stop laughing when he was acting out as a ranger but the sad part is when he took out the talkative lady. I don't think he was supposed to kill her since he was acting.
Sounds like one he'll of a story if I could understand all of it pleas do better with the audio I enjoy the stories
The United States should of backed up Rhodesia instead of working to see a defeat. That was a time ago and can anyone imagine what sort of country America is now? Most of the people are all right but never, never put any trust in the Government.
It was lowkey Andrew young under Jimmy carter a friend of MLK and a legit commie who pushed the sanctions. If the American people knew they would’ve done something as we had vets going there and fighting. Damn shame and tragedy but at least these men fought communism till the very end I’m glad to see all these videos documenting their stories it’s so cool.
"skraal" 😁 enough "klaps" 😂
Absolutely love these interviews. They are documented history and spoken truthfully. But killing an unarmed fleeing civilian because she made fun of you.....not sure about that.
Who said she was unarmed? she was clearly a high value target and organiser. Legit target if ever there was one in my view.
