As an electrician, I've carried the normal klein electrician scissors for over 30 yrs. Every single day. I use them almost out with the family and in the garden as much as I do at work. They are even good for cutting fingernails and leather.
They are soo good...I don't think I need to keep testing lol
Very nice work!
Leatherman really needs to get their act together!
Leatherman tools and their imitators are the jack of all trades, and master of none.
Not surprised by the clamps -- same cutting mechanism as trauma shears, designed to cut through thick fabric. Great test! I'm going to try out the Heritage.
Your wrong those are not trauma shears. The are designed for fishing. I have them plus trauma shers I carried in the 90s when I was running through the jungle.
Thank you for including the Dr Slick, and I'm very glad that it performed so wonderfully.
Thank you for taking the time to make this 3 part video. Very informative!
One of the most valuable components of any multi tool is scissors. Wonderful review ! Thank you very much!
try medical/ surgery scissors. i included pair in my EDC as they are sutable for both precision paper cuts and heavy duty materials as well. great video as always!
Really, really appreciate this series! I'd love to see it continue. Suggestions for testing: Engineer/Vampire combo scissors and the Roxon KS2
Man that series is a real good work man ! 👌
I would add a speed-test for cutting paper. When I wrap presents, the little scissors on my Victorinox Compact are so sharp they can cut paper as fast as much larger scissors. That’s a real advantage for a small edc.
Paper will never be something I bother with, if it can be ripped by hand (paper and cardboard) not going to use it.
@@maxlvledc *THE SOG SNIPPET HAS A CANCER CAUSING WARNING ON THE LOWER LEFT BACK SIDE OF ITS PACKAGING U MUST TALK ABOUT THIS!!!!!*
@@mgtowanonymous3120 so does nearly every single package with Grease in it (CA required warning)
I was so tuned-in for this. It was the perfect time for me as I am currently looking to add scissors to my edc. Thank you for doing this. I can't wait to see what you add in the future.
As someone who is moving from a production job into an office, I am curious to see how my carry will change.
Glad I could help
Given that I lost my SOG Powerpint, I've been looking for a replacement and as I reflected back on the tools I use a lot...
The scissors came up 2nd next to the blade. CRAZY. These videos are coming in clutch for my decision.
I'm very appreciative of your videos and importantly the mindset that it represents. I enjoy doing meticulous and careful work and even the so-called dumbest questions from your readership I have an affinity with. Why? Because these people are striving to do better. This is my world and I have a strong suspicion of so-called professionals who think they are so professional they no longer have to learn.
I don't think the comment that I'm offering contradicts in any way your efforts but I hope it adds an important dimension. Recently I've been helping a friend with her business installing high-end drapery and fabric covered walls. The ability of scissors to cut straight. Given EDC scissors are stubby and at a disadvantage. Yet there's a wide margin how despite its shortness of blade, some are designed to do better than others.
Just like in woodworking, cutting fabric straight, with the grain/ thread and at right angles is extremely important. It precludes all kinds of alignment and layout issues. It's not just a matter of making things look pretty.
More than a scissors can cut straight, I'm advocating a mindset, there is a human EDC quality how yearning with time & technique to study how various fabrics behave with the scissors to cut straight will telegraph through whether you're working with rubber, fiberglass or metal woven wire.
Your not wrong...the difference between a straight cut and one off line is massive in many professions. I don't think ANYONE should rely on an EDC Scissor for specialized tasks. Use the right tool.
just watched 3 videos about Scissors without actually planing to buy any tool for it Scissors. I am fine with my Vic classic alow.
But thanks to you I decided to add the Fiskars folding scissors to my motorcycle first aid kit.
Wish more of these were available this side of the pond!
totally worth watching dr slicks is a must have.
suggestion film all the gauntlet runs for each scissors and link them so if we want to individually watch them we can.
Leatherman raptor. I love mine. I only cut leather with them & they are almost as sharp as the day I bought them.
I have a small multitool, from the huohou brand. Bought it on aliexpress. And it is outstanding! Better then any siccors on any higher end multitool.
As someone who carries the dr.slick pliers/scissors I'm not suprised at all. They cut anything I throw at them
Excellent, thank you.
No surprise about the Dr. Slick. They make really great tools
man those klein/heritage joints are slick....
Ikr??
Gerber scissors being top tier makes perfect sense when you remember they're the same company that makes Fiskars scissors, regarded by crafters as the best.
Daily an MP400 as a powersports tech and I abuse the tool and love the scissors. It's part of the reason I haven't been able to bring myself to upgrade to a different tool.
Thank you
I would love to see one on just trauma shears. Especially the knock off raptors they sell on Amazon.
You've gotta test those engineer ones, they kick ass. Maybe a little large for edc, but they're smaller than those huge Gerber ones. I can almost guarantee they'll get 20 easy and maybe the + as well. They're great for tool kits or backpack edc.
Dems fightin Words!! I will at some point when I can afford some more.
Such a great load of data! I wish every manufactorer will provide simular testing video for every new product released on the market.
Actually I am not surprized regarding Dr. Slick Scissor Clamps, and I am sure that surgery scissors are going perform better than any other scissors, because they made with much more higher quality requirements.
By the way, in part #1 you have asked regarding shears, have you ever tried "Xshear"?
I'd love too...but too expensive atm
@@maxlvledc it definitely is
The leatherman surge has a decent pair of scissors for a multi tool
Test Gingher 5" craft scissors, I have a pair, and they are very sharp with no flex. I'm curious as to how the Ginghers would compare with the others you've reviewed.
Can you test roxxon tools? There's 4, s801, s801s, s802, and s501, probably similar to the nextool but I'm super curious.
Been waiting a few days tbh
Would like to see see Roxon 2 In 1 Knife and Scissors. S501 I believe is the name. It's about $25, looks good and has a 10 year warranty.
The Klein 2100-7 is on sale for $12. I found it on Walmart’s app, but not sold by Walmart.
Well done! Thanks for all the time and effort in the name of science and education.
Don't think you're missing much by not testing the Micra....at least older ones. I found one at an estate sale recently with a 12-00 date, that looks like it was never used once. Can barely cut through Paracord. Bends over easily.
Most of that has to do with the pivot having too much play. It's amazing how such a simple thing can make or break the functionality of a pair of scissors.
Maybe I missed it, but where did you test the Leatherman Wave? I don't even see it on the spreadsheet
Great video, this got me wondered how is the general performance of the nextool mini flagship. Can you compare the pliers of small multitools?
hmm, I could...but it would probably require breaking them.
I would declare the Klein snips the best outright from an edc standpoint. I have the 2100-9 version, next size up from what you reviewed, and if fits perfectly behind My LM’s in every pouch i own with a pliers hole at the bottom, Heck the 2100-7 might do away with that need entirely. Who would want to carry the bulky red and blue Knipex, not I.
The klein so far is the leader by a mile...it didn't even feel like I needed to put too much pressure either!
Also on the spreadsheet it says you used the 2100-7, but the video says 2100-9

Great review. Their are some many multiple tools out their it gets more and more confusing. I like for daily carry using the leather and cs or ps. I’m retired now days so what would you use to just throw in your edc bag and go ?
For dedicated scissors the klein/heritage 2100-7 bar none is the best scissors I tested
I only needed a nipper to be able to cut cable ties. It is hard to cut them with those scissors, and those with a plier are hard to use. I haven't found one yet.
I've never used scissors for zip ties ever, only pliers
Sorry if I was being insistent with the SOG snippet but I told you those are insane for the size...thanks for considering my suggestion
I had them and 100% agree!
Have you ever tried the big Scissors on the Swiza?
I’ve got a micra I bought about 8 months ago. Was my first leatherman and I’m really not that impressed with it. I tested it against a SOG baton Q1 and the SOG blew it away. The micra beats it out in versatility though with more tools but the q1 is one worth checking out imo. Fair warning the steel was surprisingly soft. I tried cutting a tomato plant with it and I noticed a Knick in the blade after
Yea..I had the Q4...execution was not not point
@@maxlvledc did you have the issue where the pliers slide back into the chamber when putting forward pressure on the tool? The scissors have that problem. It’s too bad, I like the idea but they fell short on the execution.
@@jameslange9288 exactly
It's a lot to cover !!!! Still ❤️ the ROXON 👍👌
The nextool basically is same scissor
What is Klein electrician's scissors' score in the gaunlet (disregarding EDC-ability, I suppose...)?
19+ nearly perfect and #1
same audio as Coach Cory Martin - LOL. Kept seeing my kids running from dinosaurs.
You still need to test the Hairdressers Scissors mate.!
I think the gauntlet would ruin them 😰
others scissors u should cover sog powerpint, hanwei gardening shear based multitool, STATIONARY SCISSORS MUST
The powerpint scissors were not good when I had the tool. Wish they were.
Could you try the ray man pen cut scissors?
I did, they were terrible (was in last video)
have you tested the scissors on the roxon knife scissors folding knife
No, but my guess is that it will be similar to the nextool, which performed very well
Not impressed by Leatherman scissors at all, the ones on my Squirt PS4 have so much blade play that they can't even cut through cotton thread or thin plastic sheet, nor are they up to dealing with thicker cloth or paracord. Victorinox 58mm scissors are head and shoulders above them.
I have the Fiskars scissors like the ones on the Gerber MP400, on the MP600 in my case, and they're pretty good.
Of course the Victorinox scissors on 58, 91 & 93mm alox models are great as most people will confirm.
But a great pair are the shear-like scissors on the Nextool Mini Flagship, comparable to those on scissor based keychain multitools like SOG Snippet, LM Style CS/Micra in appearance but better in performance, blades on mine are so tight that they almost grind on the axis. I've heard of material failures in many reviews from a couple of years back, even straight out of the box, but I think they must have rectified this in the meantime as the one I bought a year ago is fine.
You should check out the Xiaomi HUOHOU 10 in 1 Folding multitool.
They are scissors based tool (and may be the same scissors on the nextool mini...but I am not 100% sure).
They are the best edc scissors I have ever used and would love to see your view of them.
(Sorry for the comment repost...i thought I was initially replying on this vid...and put the comment on Vid 2.)
Eventually, I will
Very interesting series. But I'm a bit disappointed that you didn't put the Victorinox pocket scissors to the test. Is there any possibility that you can add them to your list in future? Would be great! 👍
Cheers from Germany!
Looking a them I can't see every carrying them over the Klein Shear. Similar size..but not as versatile
@@maxlvledc yeah, I think nothing can beat the Klein shears. Is it about 10cm in total length?
Cheers, buddy!
The ultimate ability of a scissor is can it cut braided fishing line.
I know the Dr Slick can cut braid.
I think only the 85mm evogrip ones did it
The James brand Ellis has an excellent pair of scissors
Fuck that...$110 for a tool with worse toolset than any vic? A partially serrated blade and mediocre steel?? Hard pass.
@@maxlvledc this review was on scissors and they work great and better then a sak scissors
@@ryanlavallee6342 better eh? For that price they should.. 10% better?
@@maxlvledc yea it is expensive but I really like it and I have 40 saks lol I wish you would take a close look to it because the thumb ramp is comfortable, they’re really sharp and I really like the spring they used. It’s unfortunate that the price is going to keep this out of a lot of peoples hands
The micra scissors are actually different and I would expect the Micra to do better.
However, my micra is a first year example from 1996 and maybe things have changed ?
I can say with cerainty....having had 6 micras....everything before 2000 was excellent...after that they all sucked
@@maxlvledc
Well that's a shame.
Why can't they do right by their longest continually produced model ?
Oh well, luckily I've been able to sharpen mine using sandpaper glued to a tongue depresser.
leatherman mica all day
Performance isn't good. Not just in this test...but all 6 micras I've owned had bad scissors.
Gerber Splice does anyone have experience with the scissors on this model?
Better than the micra...worse than the snippet
@@maxlvledc thanks for all the work you put into your channel. I am a backpacker and live out of the back of my truck or a tent for at least four months every year. the reviews and knowledge you pass on really help me keep the weight I am packing in to a minimum while being able to deal with most challenges I come across.
I know I am picky but you did not show cutting paper as well
Did they all performed well with paper and cardboard was it relevant ? or not because mostly main usage will be paper and cardboard and don t get me wrong I do appreciate that you tried a bunch of materials because now I know better the capacités of those multitool
And what about SAK cissors ?
I don't cut paper or cardboard because both are easily cut without any tools at all. The best application for scissor are fibrous materials and any time you need to cut something close to the skin. Everything can pass a paper/cardboard test basically
The SAK scissors were tested in first video. You can see detailed results in spreadsheet
@@maxlvledc ok thanks
@@maxlvledc wealljuggleknives made an Hanwei Paul Chen pro multitool review about a scissors based multitool that was great but availability in Europe well well.....😢
The victorinox is the best and you left it out
This is #3...consider looking at other videos
anybody else think gear design and testing could become an Olympic event? or at least a competition TV show like forged in fire. or am I nuts?
