The light, clear and articulate tones from this beautiful Golden Era Gibson flat top make it one of those special guitars that you have a hard time wanting to put down. Surprisingly bright and punchy draws sonic similarities with some of the nice old Martin OM guitars we've seen, but with a beautiful vintage two tone sunburst and a price tag that puts this model well within reach of players and collectors alike.
Almost 70 years ageing of the spruce top and Honduran Mahogany back & sides has beautifully enriched the tone of this 1954 Gibson LG-2. Pronounced midrange from the smaller body do well to project fingerstyle and blues picking. Of course, you can play whatever music you want on your LG-2 - it’s a hand-built golden era Gibson, so it's going to sound pretty special in almost any context.

No. LG comes from combining the "L" that was Gibson's prefix for ALL of their guitars prior to the 1934 Jumbo (hence J-45, J-50, etc.) with the "G" from the Gibson GS (gut string) series guitars of the late 1930s. Gibson combined the body shape of the GS guitar, which is a classical/grand concert size guitar comparable to a 00-18 Martin, with the bracing, woods, trim, finish, etc. of the J-45 that was meant for launch in 1942. Lots of folklore, but it is NOT "learner's guitar" or "ladies' guitar" as has been tossed around through the decades. They are the SAME thing as a J-45, same level of quality, just in a smaller grand concert size and not in the larger Jumbo size. And don't get me started on how the term "Jumbo" gets used for 17-in SUPER Jumbos like the SJ-200 ....

I stand corrected! That's a complicated but understandable timeline you say. If there's some good literature on the subject I'd love to get my eyes on it.

Just work up The money for the LG and you keep both Holmes. It'll be worth keeping a jumbo
