I strongly suspect that House (through Foreman) steered Chase to THIS particular patient, hoping to jar Chase out of his disillusionment. Chase has been ignoring House's calls and has thus far been unwilling to return to the team. House realized it wasn't about Chase getting stabbed or feeling unsafe at work. It was that he almost died, and did so nearly completely alone and this deflated any sense of personal investment or drive in Chase. House probably scoped out the clinic patients and told Foreman to give THESE files to him, the first one being the postulant.
House already saw that Chase getting with the usual babes wasn't enough to dislodge him from his place of disconnect and disenchantment with his life. He probably surmised that some connection to Chase's adolescent years might do the trick. A woman about to take the last formal steps to withdraw from the world entirely would be a good match for where Chase seems to be headed...as he seemed already to be on the brink of untethering himself from the moorings of medical practice.

The character is very appealing because the actress (Julie Mond) brings a genuine vulnerability and anguish to the role. She is haunted by an irrevocable mistake (probably born of youth and inattention) and so burdened by her guilt that she re-evaluates her entire life and abandons her worldly pursuits to become a nun. It's what House said to Chase at the end of the episode: "You reassess your life when you've made mistakes. You didn't. You just got stabbed."
Moira made mistakes, perhaps a host of them...young, impulsive, self-indulgent. She reassessed and went a full 180 degrees now pursuing complete abdication of carnal impulses, attachment to the material lures and interpersonal dynamics of society. Dr. Chase, who himself is in a moment of personal crisis as he feels empty and alone feeling the absence of genuine love after Cameron's departure from his life, becomes Moira's "last temptation". Chase physically is that sort of guy Moira would have indulged in the past, but he offers so much more. Chase's deeply philosophical nature is strongly imbued with a piety that has been critically reasoned and not simply indoctrinated by blind obedience. This resonates with Moira, and Moira's inner conflicts and pale cast of haunting guilt strike a cord with Chase who paid a heavy price for his actions in "The Tyrant" and his burdened by the ramifications of his deeds and the cost to him personally.
We see Moira through Chase's eyes...and that's what makes her so compelling.

Thank you for the upload, this is by far one of my top favorite House episodes. Here follows a lengthy analysis of the episode and the House/Chase dynamic.
The episode begins with Chase in bed with some random babe. She says to him "we didn't do much talking." This reveals the absence of any true connection, and in fact, for Chase, an aftertaste of emptiness and apathy. When he meets Moira though, something comes alive in Chase. He is instantly struck by her, and not just her beauty, which seems of course incongruent with her status as a student nun. Throughout the episode Chase talks at length and rather substantively with her. Moira is uncertain about undertaking a rather stringent form vows that includes not speaking or touching anyone before becoming a full fledged nun. Chase immediately connects with Moira. He spends a great deal of time challenging her decision characterizing it as running away from life. Chase is projecting; it's he who is withdrawing from life. Moira is on a life altering path and Chase is recovering from a nearly life-threatening attack. Both are at a cross roads, both need healing of the physical, emotional and spiritual kind. It's an episode that measures the cost of life with the worth of living.
This is one of my favorite episodes because it examines how we deal with fear and trauma and why some of us embrace life changing decisions. The emotional tone of this episode is solemn, deep and cathartic. Both House and Chase have some truly astoundingly deep conversations where there is deep understanding between them. There's a moment where House pretty much tells Chase how he's condemned himself to loneliness and misery and warns Chase not to act selfishly, by stripping meaning from Moira's life. Moira carried the burden of guilt (over the death of a young boy in her care) for so long and was able to finally let go. Chase in letting go of Moira, finally let go of his anger over the attack and over his own empty life (consisting mostly of a trail of endless, devoid of connection hook-ups after Cameron left him). Through Moira he was able to see that he can truly connect with another person deeply, to love and not just find momentary refuge in carnal heat. The acting from Jesse Spencer and Julie Mond was spectacular and the chemistry between the two is off the charts. As much as this episode is about Chase becoming deeply entangled with a patient, through his struggle we understand more about how House sees his own life and how Robert views both House and himself.
The energy between the Moira the would be Nun and Chase was extraordinary. You can tell that Chase having left the seminary and Moira (about to take her final vows) reached an intersection of understanding not only of the crisis of faith but also of each other's own journey of doubt in terms of both the notion of faith and their own personal arcs in life. One walked away more committed to faith more anchored in the notion that "things happen for a reason", and the other, irrevocably changed by House's insistence on evidence based, empirical findings and thus willing to disabuse someone of their faith but doing so for the most selfish of reasons. House seeing that Chase is a product of his own genius and cynicism, dissuades Chase from doing something that can only end terribly for both Chase and Moira. To destroy her faith would be to betray and perhaps annihilate Chase's love for her and leave her struck in perpetual limbo. The same would happen to Chase as he would walk away from his professional life and be "stuck" in the aftermath of blowing up HER life with nothing to show for it except him hating himself, losing her and being ALL ALONE. House rather quickly played the tape to the end and showed Chase where he would end up. Seemingly uncharacteristically (to the unobservant viewer) House wanted to spare Chase of very fate that House inflicted on himself...repeatedly (Stacey, Domineka, Cuddy). It was a powerful father and son moment. Because the Sins of Father, this time, will NOT be visited upon the son!

I was out dancing one night with some good friends. In my late twenties and I asked a young woman to dance. We waltzed and talked, had much in common. She was beautiful and intelligent. She seemed to like me too, though I cannot say that she was attracted in any romantic way.
I found out she was there with her father for one last night of secular type fun before heading to a convent the following morning. I told her that I had been considering a return to the Church, which was true.
She told me as we danced the last waltz of the night together that she was so glad I was there. That I’d made it a wonderful night for her, and she would pray for me about my return to the Faith. I wanted to kiss her then. She felt that and blushed, and smiled, and said, “Goodnight.”
I told her I’d pray for her, too. Her name was Mary, appropriately enough.
This clip made me think of her, of course, but my ending was more realistic, I suppose. Wherever you are now, Mary, I hope your life has been one full of blessings.
