I bought my RX10 iv after seeing your reviews. I’ve had it for some years, and I’m currently cycling through Vietnam with it in my handlebar bag. It’s not my AR7V but it doesn’t pretend to be; however, it’s probably the most versatile travelling camera on the planet. It’s spontaneity is unmatched. I prefer it to my RX100vii despite its being larger. It’s also bombproof. I agree with you that if they released an update, the improvements would be seen by Sony as cannibalising their mirror less options. I don’t know why they don’t produce a significantly improved upgrade, and sell it at, say, AUD4000. It would sell! Thanks for your great efforts on behalf of the RX10iv, mate. Brilliant!

Thanks for this ode to the RX10 iv Stuart. I bought this camera for my wife when it came out and it was the second best investment I ever made (after her😂). She adores this camera and uses it every day of her life, it has made her so happy. She has photographed all the birds of South Western Australia, and it gets her out in nature. I hope Sony realise what this camera has done for those photographers who just want an instrument that just works so well in so many situations.

I bought myself an RX10 IV the day I retired several years ago. We are inseparable. I like to hike a lot and stop and quickly shoot when I see something interesting, usually birds. I don't have the strength to haul a lot of gear on long hikes. This camera has been on many international trips and birding tours and people are always amazed by the quality of the shots I can stop and capture in a flash. I will be devastated if they stop this line since there is nothing else in this class that can match the quality of the photos I am able to capture. I just hope my current RX10 IV lasts a long time. I would buy a V in a minute if it comes out.

James, I have owned the rx10 iv for more than 6 years and love it. I have also owned the Canon r7 which is also very good. However, I sold the r7 not too long ago and still have and use the rx10 iv. If Sony updated the rx to an rx10 v I would certainly purchase one!
Tell Sony they are missing a great opportunity to convince some phone photographers to carry the rx in addition to their phone for added benefits that it offers and not need to carry all the additional "stuff" of an interchangable lens camera.
Please Sony, take your customers' opinions into account.
The other way Sony would satisfy me would be to do a custom upgrade option that I would be willing to pay for.

Literally. RX10IV is one step behind LOOOOOOOOOOOONG term perfection. Don't need to change anything like resolution.
Adding AI functions (recognition) & Autofocus from their newest cameras, add focus bracketing, add 4k 120 fps... and if they want - they might improve glass, but don't freaking change focal lengths, it's great for everything right know. edit: forgot about screen, EVF and memory card slots, but it also would be nice to improve, basically doing those updates it's perfect for travel, photo enthusiast and even pro-level at certain usage.

I'm on year six with mine, and like others are saying it's the best camera I've ever used. I defy anyone to come up with a better jack-of-all-trades camera for 95% of their needs. Macro, portrait, wide landscape, telephoto, 4K video, slo-mo...it can do it all. (Sure, there are edge cases where it falls a bit short like in very low light, though with a high enough ISO and then a bit of noise removal in post it's perfectly serviceable.)
I don't know what I'd do without it on vacations and trips. I've been able to capture so many things that I simply wouldn't have been able to with my old Canon DSLRs.

It may be worth buying another one just in case something happens to our current one. It's my most used camera. I do use my A7 classic with my vintage lenses and my fast primes for golden hour portraits, etc. But most of the time I have my mark IV with me. Sad to see it killed off by sony. I’ve been waiting for the RX10V to make a purchase as these bridge cameras are incredibly useful and convenient. I took this announcement really hard as not everyone wants a DSLR/MILC and a horde of lenses especially when travelling. I am seriously disappointed in Sony as Mobile Phones cannot do what the RX10 does. This leaves a giant gap in the market by its absence. As for harming sales, a very large number of people don’t want a camera body and lenses AND the big point, how many people actually own a 600mm lense or could afford it, it’s a low volume seller even in the wildlife market!

Would buy a v5 in a heartbeat with a mild upgrade of specs and the new processors seen in the new crop of Sony cameras (and continue using it as my second camera) it's either wait for a RX10m5 or a A7Rm6 and buy more lenses at significantly more money

I've had the p950 and the fz1000ii. The Nikon is painful with processing ability but has a really great lens. The Panasonic is closer to the Sony but not quite as good in every aspect. The lens is shorter and soft as butter. I've always thought about upgrading to the Sony but I was waiting for a mk5.
If they did something different, I'd be interested in a longer version. I figure phones and the pocket have wide angles covered in good enough quality for an amateur, they just don't have the zoom.
How much better could the long end be if a mk5 started at 120mm? 5x instead of 25x would have to give plenty of opportunity for some combination of faster, sharper, smaller, lighter, cheaper or less distortion.

If the rumours are true, it’s a very sad day, especially if there isn’t a Mark V to replace it . Although I have the 6700, I very much miss the RX10 when travelling. It is so easy to carry around, without needing a large bag. I’m finding that when I carry the 6700 and lenses in a backpack, people just feel free to knock it around, which really winds me up ! If Sony were to bless us with a Mark V , I would definitely trade in the 6700. Sony would still make a fortune out of a mark V as it would fill a very large niche market . You have been a great ambassador for the RX10 Stuart , and I am very grateful to you for that. No one has done a better job at promoting its virtues.❤

I definitely relate to your comment about shooting wide landscapes and then being able to immediately switch to capturing a soaring raptor or an insect on a flower!
There obviously are superzoom lenses for ILC cameras. I've used almost every one made for Canon's crop sensor cameras. They are not as sharp (especially in the corners) as the RX10 IV, though, and they suffer from major focal length breathing on near and medium-distance subjects.

I have just diacovered your channel after doing some research on rhe RX10iv... This camera is something i have been considering for a number of years but never got around to it. I am an amateur but have recently gotten back into my wildlife photography. I hace a 12 year old Canon PowerShot SX50 bridge camera and think the Sony would be a huge upgrade on that.
I have considered the Canon R series mirrorless and inter changing lenses but don't think that would work for me.
Having the bridge camera at hand is so handy like you've mentioned.
My question is, do you think its still worth a purchase 7 years on or are there other competitors that have finally caught up with the RX10 that might be a good alternative? I vaguely remmeber a Nikon P1000 being a decent camera a few years back but I still believe that the RX10 is the one to beat?!
I always wondered whether a mk5 would come out and I guess nobody knows, but its looking unlikely.

The RX10IV is way overpriced and didnt sell well. Very few are willing to pay $1,700 for it when you can get any of their crop sensor cameras with much better everything for less money and even some of their FF cameras used for the same price or cheaper. $1,700 for a 1 inch sensor is ridiculous.

@@michaelbell75 the rx10iv was a bargain at £1800 when it came out its spec level is way above any other camera out there even today in the bridge cameras. Even most mid to high end mirrorless it still beats hands down. Its sold thousands of units over 7 years so deffo sold well. The panasonics are much cheaper because they are no where near as good. and all they updated was the usb sockets basically. I know personally around 20 photographers who have them and thousands who follow me on here and i dont think you quite understand the camera. An all in one with pro level specs that does everything better than the rest with its amazing 24-600 lens that is sharp through the range and sony a9 af and processors all built round the sensor to give the worlds most useable camera it does so much and weighs just 1kg. Thats why its worth every penny of its pricetag.

@@sjm.photos I love bridge cameras but I’m sorry, something like a used a7IV or an R series is a better camera by a mile. Even an a6700 is going to perform far better. Larger sensor, much better AF system, way higher ISO, better processor, IBIS, much better mechanical shutter, better video specs…it’s really not even close. The only advantage of the RX10 is a stacked sensor, but overall it’s still inferior to even the 6700 sensor as it performs much worse in DR, color depth and high ISO. One of Sonys newer FF cameras has even more advantages.

@@michaelbell75 again you still dont understand its purpose lol also you ive never used its mechanical shutter which is a leaf shutter allowing upto 1/2000s native flash sync only other camera in the world better than that is the a9iii with its global shutter. The whole point of the rx10iv camera is a pro level all in one that can deliver great images that are sharp and of high quality. Yes ofcourse you can buy other cameras for less but now go buy a 24-70f2.8 a 70-200f4 a 100-400 f5.6 and a 600f4 to match the rx10iv lens ranges. Thats around £20000 i think you will find. That is the whole point of the camera if you still dont understand you obviously have your head in the sand.

@@sjm.photos I get it. Like I said, I love bridge cameras and have owned several. Sure, it’s convenient and all. But to say the RX10 has better specs than most mid to high end mirrorless cameras is just plain false. It doesn’t even have superior specs to an a6700 let alone Sonys FF cameras. You may want to look at the RX10 vs Sonys other cameras on a website that compares specs like Camera Decision or Apolyte. You will find that nearly all of Sonys A mount cameras the past 4 years beat it out on performance and features quite easily. Thanks

First of all, I want to say that the price of this camera and the other high end Sony cameras are priced with MAFIA prices. They are simply blood-sucking vampires, I mean, money-sucking vampires. I am not sad at all about the news. This camera is totally useless for night photography, specially in absolute darkness, I paid a mafia price for a camera that is only good under good light conditions. Opening all the lens to 600mm produce not good images either. If they were not able to update why this camera makes so poor and terrible night shots, for me is better to say to them R.I.P. Thank you for the video and your work.

sounds like user error.the price is fine it was well worth £1800 when it came out 7 years ago. and now its a bargain price. the rx10iv is an exceptional camera yes not the best at low light but still does very well and with noise software no issues. the rx10iv is a hard camera to master as a pro level body in an all in one set up. so takes even pros a good while to get the best from it.

I have had one for 2 years. Great Camera, super sharp, great photos. As of end of July the Sony Site is still selling it. Unless the sales just dropped off, I can't imagine Sony disco-ing it. Heck they still make like what? 3 Models of the 6000 series? They like the keep their cameras around. But who knows?
[edit] Oh, OK this makes sense - I read the Sony Rumor's actual Rumor and they had this fact: "digital cameras, must feature a USB-C port to remain on shelves in Europe (come next year), according to the EU's Common Charger Directive." - Yeah that could kill the M4. Why put money into a shrinking market?

Nothing surprises me with Sony's marketing decisions,i know ive been with their smartphone division for 14 years and it leaves you pulling your hair out with their ideas and marketing.
I bought my rx10 mk4. camera the same time as you,and have the same opinions of this great all in one camera, lets hope that sanity comes to Sony marketing and they bring a mk 5 out but, knowing them nothing makes sense any more, and they probably won't.

    My private research gives:
Global market for bridge cameras is some 900 000 pieces.
Global market for full frame camera bodies 6 000 000 pieces.
Bridge camera market max 15%. Add to that 10 000 000 sold lenses for the full frame cameras. If you include that and compare to the bridge camera market the market share for bridge cameras shrink to 1-5% of total market. Sony dominates and rules that market with the RX series, Nikon, Panasonic what are they? No need for Sony to hurry or over develop. When they see selling and profitability fall for the RX series they act. How they act? Only top management knows. But as we are aware of no new cameras RX100 or RX10 the last 5-7 years. If they see a market, they want to exploit then they give us RX10 V or a new platform. If they don´t see a profitable market they leave us RX10 freaks to rot. And we must obey to the E-Mount swamp and begin to carry tons of camera equipment.
Let´s hope Sony sees a market for bridge cameras they want to exploit! (take my figures with a pinch of salt)
