- HOW TO COOK BUCKWHEAT | Buckwheat recipe | Φαγόπυρο // This video is a tutorial on how to make buckwheat. Buckwheat is a seed and not a wheat, which means it is gluten-free, thus making it appropriate for anyone that is celiac or is intolerant to gluten. This ingredient is great to include in your diet because of its high composition in complex carbohydrates, ideal for people with type 2 diabetes and those looking to manage their blood sugar spikes. It is becoming all the more popular as it contains other macro- and micro-nutrients such as protein, fats, a variety of minerals, and antioxidants.

Thanks for the video! My mother made buckwheat regularly when I was growing up and gives me giant bags of buckwheat every few months. I cook twice a week for breakfast, sometimes sweet with oat milk, with berries, sliced almonds, and hemp seeds, and sometimes savory with olive oil, vegetables and tofu.
Sounds amazing! Same here. Buckwheat is amazing
I ate buckwheat for the first time in a Russian restaurant. It makes a fine substitute for rice because the texture is very similar. And, as you said, low in sugars.

Yay! Looks delicious! Now I know what to do with a bunch of buckwheat we have at home.
Hahaha glad to hear I gave an idea on how to utilise the ingredient :)
Yea, I bought it without actually having a plan on where to use it.
@@CzarinaKehoe That's awesome then. Now you have an idea. I may do more recipes with buckwheat in the following weeks.
I gotta saw, I have never eaten buckwheat. Since it is healthy and looks delicious here, I'mma have to try it!
Happy to hear :)
Great video. Wasn't aware buckwheat is classified as a seed. Some great and delicious-looking ideas. Like the health aspect you've included i.e. blood sugar, diabetes etc. Never cooked buckwheat before.
Absolutely!
Thank you 😊
:)
I’ve never cooked buckwheat before! It’s been kind of a mystery for me- thanks for this video!!
Pleasure!
That's really cool, I've actually never eaten Buckwheat before.
I am so glad you enjoyed it!
We eat it in Poland 3 times a week it is so cheep, we eat it with anything it goes, it is called kasza gryczana in Polish.
Thank you for sharing Robert. It is such a versatile ingredient. We eat it twice a week.
I need to cook with buckwheat more!
We love buckwheat! :)
Am a Nigerian living in Poland I brought Buckwheat thinking it was like the ones an used to back home.
After cooking it I realized it was different. But your video has helped to appreciate it the more....
Yes I have it like this ingredient
So happy to hear!
so beautiful video great vIdeo good luck for future I am big fan of you I am supporting you
Thank you so so much
@@greekmamalife thanks
My mom always used to make me buckwheat pancakes growing up :)
Really? How nice!
Buckwheat's delicious so long as it's roasted and this recipe sounds really good, but for some of us, getting hold of buckwheat is more difficult and quite costly. Where it's a staple food and widely grown it quite naturally becomes a staple food, but not so much here I think.
Wow, this looked so delicious! Especially that yogurt at the end! 🙌🏻
But I don’t think I’ve ever eaten buckwheat.
Is it similar to quinoa at all?
It is becoming more and more popular because of its benefits. So I am sure you will end up giving this a go :)
It’s name is weird being that it’s a seed. I can remember the water/seed ratio. 1 cup of and 2 cups of water...similar to when cooking rice. 👍🏼 I want to try this one day. It looks tasty + adding the vegetables...✨
Absolutely! I am sure you will love it
Perfect. We are a gluten free family 👍
Then this is perfect!
I’m going to cook it for a first time
This is kasha. Are you cooking it the same way with normal buckwheat?
This I new for me. Interesting, I'll have to try that out. Thanks for sharing.
Pleasure! Thank you for stepping by
👏🙏
This brow buckwheat is roasted ?
Nice recipe but why would you recommend a meal high in carbohydrates to a person who has Type 2 diabetes?
❤
I love Buckwheat, but I am apprehensive about it containing Glyphosate. Roundup's active ingredient and carcinogenic to humans. How and where is yours grown and do you think it safe for your family to eat?
d buckwheats u used r they rosted ?
No. The buckwheat I use are raw
👍👍☕🤝
Thank you!
I mix this with my oatmeal, banana nut butter granola which have (organic hemp, chia and coconut flakes) sugar and chopped dates. Doesn’t look appealing at all but that’s over 100 gram of carbs I use for 🚴🏽 ride
Sounds delicious!
@@greekmamalife yes. I stopped mixing buckwheat with my oatmeal didn’t look good lol now I put in separate bowls.
I have tried to make buckwheat several times now.........I don't get it. I tried without the vegies and with the vagies.......as you are showing
After I put in the water and cover it for about 5 Minutes it looks great - fluffy. I cover it and go back later (maybe 10 minutes) And it it mush......
The grains are interspersed with this clear filmy type of gluie stuff.......After it cools - it isn't as bad but it is still mush.......I have tries it now about 3 times and no matter whose recipe I try it is the same....
Thank you for sharing your experience. It sounds like either the heat is set at too high or you leave it to cook for too long. Give my recipe a go if you have the ingredients. It will work :)
I’m never had buckwheat but I’m sure I’d find a way to screw it up. It’s worth a shot though 😅
You won't! Give it a go!
Great video, though sadly, the recipe no longer exists at the link you gave.
I will update and resend in a couple of days
@@greekmamalife Thanks!
Here's the recipe: greekmamalife.substack.com/p/how-to-cook-buckwheat
@@greekmamalifeHey, this is really terrific. Thanks so much!
Have you ever done this with roasted buckwheat?
No I haven't. That is a great idea though.
😊
🙏🏼
Welcome, after a long time your video notification appeared?
I am so glad you are here. Hope you enjoyed it. I have been away for a year doing my Master's but now :)
That’s roasted buckwheat not the raw one which is a light green colour with more nutrients
By tomato sauce, did you mean tomato paste?
I have a homemade one available but tomato paste can be used as well
Welcome to my cooking channel
thanks for stepping by
Have you ever cooked buckwheat before?
Christina Tsiripidou I have never cooked buckwheat. After watching this video I think I am going to try it
Absolutely! I am sure you will love it
@@NudratsKitchen Dear friend,
Thank you.
Have a good time.
I soaked the buckwheat, and it became like mush.
I believe mention that you should rinse buckwheat not soak it :)
why everybody feels the need to ...show themselves on you tube?
Another nothing video, you rinse the buckwheat and the boil for a few minutes on a 1 buckwheat 2, 1/2 water ratio.
You're welcome!
Thank you for your comment
I used to make buckwheat and never had an issue with it becoming mushy. Now it seems that it always comes out mushy. I typically toast the green buckwheat and let it cool before I add the water. I sue the same proportions as you use. Any idea why my kasha comes out mushy and not like nice individual grains? Have you ever experienced this problem?
