  • Season 3, Episode 6 of "Another Bad Call" takes the a deeper look at the 2024 Chicago Bears projected starting line, both as is and with the much heralded rumors of the team signing Pro Football Focus's #2 rated Center, Connor Williams (formerly of Miami).
The show starts with the bad calls of the week:
Finn ransacked the LA Clippers for their handling of Paul George, both what they gave up (and continue to give up) to get him in 2019, and their willingness to let him walk for nothing despite a mega offer on the table from the Golden State Warriors.
Justin had two mini calls: 1A - "That travesty of a presidential debate that we had the other night" (that's his entire).
1B - US / Uruguay round robin, Copa America Group C: The Cup sponsors ran out under-seasoned referee Kevin Ortega, and Just calls him out with vigor.
JD: The many, many bad calls surrounding JaMarcus Russell, former #1 pick of the then-Oakland Raiders. While working as a HS assistant coach, Russell took at $74,000 donation and cashed it, keeping an estimated $55,000 of it. (The kids, JaMarcus. C'mon, man).

    Tales of a Degenerate:
Justin: He missed a 4-leg parlay in the England / Slovakia knockout game "Anytime" bet. Untrue to the bet's name, two of the acts occured in Extra Time.
JD: was too pure to gamble
Finn: (Still) owes Justin $20 bucks over the "Will Coleman Hawkins get over $1mm in an NIL deal). Hawkins got, as Finn puts it, "A 'What the f***?' $2mm" NIL from Kansas State, and states his case why it was still a good bet.
Justin & Finn get into a passionate dicussion regarding the bet, and Justin called on brother (and other Illini fan) to make a rulling.
Hawkins might have to kick for Kansas State, too:

    Bleeding Hearts:
JD: JD is over-the-moon excited that HBO Hard Knocks is covering an entire division. In this case, the AFC North. He and Justin both hope the coverage isn't watered down cover so many teams, but are excited for the extra looks into teams.
Finn: Klay Thompson leaving the #warriors for the Dallas Mavricks on a 3-year, $50mm deal hurts, not only for basketball reasons, but because the Warriors success started when he and his wife made the move from Chicago to Bay Area back in 2014, and lived a few stops down from the "Roaracle" in Oakland. Justin notes it's hard to feel sorry for a guy whose two favorite teams have had 10 titles in 33 years - not to mention #IUBB's national titles.
Justin: Justin is excited that #illini men's basketball team continue to have incredible recruiting success, refilling an astonishing 11 players in this NIL era. The latest, at the time of the recording: 5-star SF Will Riley.
    MAIN EVENT:
Hall of Fame Game: The Bears playing in the Hall of Fame game in (now under) one month. ONE MONTH.
The trio doesn't expect to see much, despite their desire to see #1 pick QB Caleb Williams, #9 pick Rome Odunze, pro bowl receiver Kenaan Allen, because of Bears head coach Matt Eberflus' tendency to not play starters in the preseason. Also, how close the game is to training camp, and that the game gives them a 4th preseason game, where others have 3.
Bears O-Line: Pro Football Focus ranks the Bears' offensive line at #11.
It happily suprised Finn because of a "fresh" center in Ryan Bates, and injury issues with guards Nate Davis and Teven Jenkins.
For Justin, he shares cautious optimism.
For JD, he'd like to see more.
The trio go deeper into additional free agency signings on the line, how PFF and Sharp Football Analysis (who ranked the Bears at #12), and look at each player individually - noting that the ranking likely leans heavily on the tackle play and their potential growth.
They also look at the impact of coaching changes (new OC Shane Waldron), quarterback changes (Justin Fields to Caleb Williams), and increase league-wide of injuries.
All this brought them back to Connor Williams, whose free agency continues to intrigue them, especially with reports of Williams being ready by the start of season after ACL surgery.
Then, to cap off their Williams' intriguie, Justin brings up footage floating around of Connor Williams going up with Aaron Donald back with Williams' was with the Cowboys. It was a shot of adrenilin to cap off the episode.
