    Hi Todd, great vid! You were right,,it WAS interesting,,very interesting indeed! The lack of bullshit ( i.e.red tape ) laws is very appealing. None of the various ways of emigration sounded too tough,,,I'd say the common theme,,not just for Lao, but all over S.E. Asia,,is,,,,,,ya gotta listen,,ya gotta be patient,,and you have to get the idiocy out of your mind that ,,,if they dont do like back in Merica,,its just wrong,,,plus be patient,,lol. And once again,,it showed the kind,sweet attitude of not just those Hmong villagers,,,but generally,,,the people of Lao. Very cool mate! Your friend,,too,,is rocking kind of an understated intelligence. I think he is very smart,,,I think he has a great memory. Tell him thanks for covering all that information. Hope you have a great week,,,Ttyl,,,Marlon

    Iv often wondered how expats use their money in laos without using cash, as I see most money transfer apps don't work for laos and those that do, or atms, have high fees or bad conversion rates.
    I also always thought I couldn't import things from Thailand to laos, though I just found online it is possible though most items incur a 10% -20% fee. So I may be able to some handy items next time to bring out to the country. Also apparently educational items don't incur import tax so it could be possible to bring laos-english text books etc 😀
    I look forward to finally getting back to laos 🙏🇱🇦

    Great video with great content once again. Chris' wealth of information about Laos and its immigration laws is amazing. I hope that he will pop in from time to time in the videos. I do have one question that popped up for me. Laos has so few laws and as stated few lawyers, (How wonderful it must be to live in a country with few lawyers) so is there a court system in Laos to settle disputes. I mean here in the states you can pretty much take someone to court just for looking at you funny.

    • @chrisb-mv9qi
      @chrisb-mv9qi Před 3 lety +1

      Yes there is a court system based in the capital Vientiane which also travels to all 18 provinces to settle rulings, it’s a bit slow though…
      Best is to settle in a friendly manner rather than going to court which is what most people do except for crimes

    Chicken wings(Buffalo, hot, etc.) here are about a $1 a piece; 60 cents on wing night(no exaggeration). You got a whole chicken and 4 beers for $4.60. A dozen wings and 4 beers here is 18-24 bucks. Interesting that they have no postal service. That irrigation looks fun as hell. We had fish steps near where I grew up that we did that with. Most of the scooters are just small cc, around 110, even though the laws have changed over the last few years and it is now possible to ride large bikes here legally. A dirt bike would handle these roads much better yes, especially out in the villages. I think you will still see the small scooters for a long time to come. They just make more sense around here, at least around the city. They're cheap, can hold many people lol, easy to carry your shopping, much more manoeuvrable and run on an oily rag

      TUMMY TALK, if you do some research, you will find that way back in history there were some blond, blue eyed Hmong. Unfortunately, they were easy targets for the Chinese to irradicate at the time. In modern times, you can still encounter blondish Hmong with very light skin, but no blue eye.

    Good question. Why westerners want to live in Laos, a third world country. Even those of us who were born there but fled to the US after the Vietnam War, we like to visit but not to live because there not many accommodation in Laos as in the USA. Unfortunately, Laos people treat westerners like you than us. They know that westerners need to be respect. But for us, they still feel that we are them and they can cheat on us and there is nothing we can do. Many of us returned to Laos for businesses or marriages, and almost everyone I know were threatened even by their own relatives, so they came back to the USA.
