  • In the Scrambler S Series Episode 2, Sportsman XP 1000 VS Scrambler XP 1000 S, we put Polaris' 55" wide, ultra long travel suspension equipped Sport 4x4 Scrambler S against Polaris more traditional 48" wide Sportsman XP 1000. Virtually identical engine performance makes this a battle of handling and suspension prowess with some surprising results.
    For Episode 2 our riders head to the Turkey Bay OHV area in Land Between the Lakes Ky.

    Is there any difference between the suspension on the scrambler and sportsman 1000 s. I would mainly be using it for slower type trail riding with sxs’s. Thinking the sportsman 1000 s might be more plush plus the added engine braking. Waiting on a good review between the two so I can decide 😂.

      @mendomotox1569 Před 3 lety +2

      Yes, the scrambler has more travel. The sportsman s is limited by the fenders on up travel. Otherwise almost identical mechanically. Just different body work. Also they both "have engine braking" its just the sportsman has more aggressive engine braking. Too aggressive in my opinion. And also prone to failure if you like to jump. That said, I chose the sportsman and am very happy with it. I like the bigger fenders for mud, and the storage.

      @@farmerjoe8809 sounds like @Mendomotox is pretty much steering you in the right direction. The Scrambler does not have engine braking at all actually. In our opinion it's very subjective. There are people out there that destroy belts constantly believing they should never have to use low range on machines that come with low range Transmissions. We're sure there are people out there who abused their machines and don't service the engine that have premature failure While others who service them regularly get quite a bit of life out of them. The Sportsman was a little faster. The added weight and wheelbase of the Scrambler could help it a bit out of the hole. The difference between the two is 80lbs, about 10% more for the Scrambler.

    • @dirtobsexxionvlogs4892
      @dirtobsexxionvlogs4892 Před 3 lety +2

      It came off the line faster every time.. We think the weight was actually a benefit there for traction. We didn't control for every factor like the tires on the Scrambler being newer or the Sportsman having more miles on the belt.. The weight difference is about 76lbs dry so on machines over 800lbs it isn't really a different universe or anything.. It did surprise us though.. We lined it up with the Outlander too, that'll be in the next video.. Tires and belt life were more comparable on those machines..

    Each to their own. But for a 1000cc that weighs ~1000 pounds and is wider than some UTVs, the Sportsman 'S' makes a LOT more sense than the Scrambler. Having something THAT big and heavy, yet have such limited rack capacity as the Scrambler, is just too limiting. One use for the quads is long loop rides that can be over 140 miles of mountainous terrain covered in a day. A Scrambler can't properly carry the extra gas, tools, rain gear, clothing layers, tow or kinetic ropes, drinks/food, electronic devices, etc. That is too much to lose just to go a touch faster.

    • @ATVonDemand
      @ATVonDemand  Před rokem

      What's best about your comment is that you know what's best for you and there are 2 options available. In the area where we live the scrambler makes more sense because we don't have vast riding areas nearby. We have ride parks that are a few 100 acres but nothing that would have us going a 140 miles. For us and people in our situation something that is a little faster makes sense. More than the 100 pounds savings on the scrambler, the scrambler's suspension is quite a bit better at this point.. The shocks on the sportsman S have been downgraded.. Plus they weren't as stiffly sprung or vowed to start with so you couldn't push the machine as hard. To each their own and that's why we love options! Sounds like you do some pretty epic rides.

    • @gregparrott
      @gregparrott Před rokem

      @@ATVonDemand I'm aware that the dampers and spring rates on the Sportsman are inferior to those on the Scrambler. But I'll worry about an aftermarket upgrade later. The areas I visit in the Summer are Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Arizona, Nevada (home base), Oregon, and parts of (mostly eastern) California. Next month, it's Colorado for the first time with an ATV. My prior highest peaks were 11,000', but one we'll be climbing in Colorado is 14,200'. For off road, Utah is my #1 choice for the sheer volume and variety of terrain, as well as an ATV friendly mindset. My 1st long ride there was a 340 mile loop over 5 days, dropping out of the mountains each night into a different town along the 'Piute Trail' loop. The 'Arizona Peace trail' is ~700 miles. So far, I've only done the northern half. You can have a 'sag wagon' follow the group, or camp, or hotel hop at towns along the route. Although I don't own a UTV, it's easier with them because UTVs can be registered to ride paved roads, whereas it's a little dicier with ATVs. I didn't have problems, but it was a concern in a few areas.

    Great job on your video. The "S" model scrambler is not for me. They should have made an "XC" version, much like the Renegades. As a Scrambler owner though, the Polaris product simply does not compare to Can-Am's offering. They power/torque just isn't there, and there are so many NECESSARY upgrades required on the Scramber before ever taking it out in the woods. This S model is just to get people into the showroom to see something "different". I can't imagine wheeling a 55" machine on any of the trails I ride.

      We would like to see a 48" wide version of the scrambler similar to the Renagede X XC but just because this machine isn't what you're looking for doesn't mean it isn't the dream for others. In wide-open, west coast desert terrain, we're pretty sure this would smoke any other 4x4 on the market easily. Pure acceleration is only all that matters if the off-road world were flat.
