      I strongly agree with you on this point.
      It was great how he used the white bag technique to "impersonate" a more traditional style but then justified his reasons for keeping the lower branch in a literati style tree.

    I really like the literati style. To me it shows a trees struggle for life in difficult circumstances.

      @rufio777 yep, I had a black S14 Kouki. Unfortunately I had to part ways a few years ago... was a hard decision for sure. Had it since i was 16 (29) now...

      Yes, Mr Chan is probably of Cantonese extraction, from the way he spells his name. But as a side note, it is really the same thing. Chan is the Cantonese pronunciation, and Chen is in Mandarin. They are both written the same way in Chinese script.

    Another marvellous transformation. I have an old ficus I rescued from an office environment only one large branch was alive, so I replanted the tree with the beach vertical. It is sparse and one sided. I feel inspired!

    To me this is a cross between literati and wind swept, but whatever style it may be you made it work. It had such possibilities. A true master. Thank you again for another very interesting video. I have been a fan of yours for 30 years.

    When I watch your videos I have fun trying to guess what you will do next. Sometimes I anticipate your moves accurately and sometimes not. In this video my guesses were about 75 per cent correct and I'm very happy with my score because I like surprises. I find your videos wonderfully educational and interesting. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and artistic perceptions.

      "It is like food that has no taste at the beginning but the more you chew the more flavor comes out. When you first look at Bunjin style there is nothing exciting about it, it is so skimpy and lonely. But the more you observe it the more the tree quality and natural traits will come out. You will feel something from inside of your mind, and not only through the surface eyes."

    Nice work Peter, I love hearing your thought process when tackling old neglected or misshapen trees like this, of course lots of people will leave their suggestions about how they would have done it better, however I think it is a lot easier for them to write a smart CZcams comment when they know theyre not actually going to have to do the work they talk about. Keep up the great work, I really enjoy watching these videos as do many others.

    Right 'up my tree' this video, thank you, in using a no-hope specimen (lots here) and the elegant literati shape. In addition to odd wellies, bits of wire and string you use up old compost. Sheer perfection.

    Great video, as always. I'm learning a lot. We also came round to visit the nursery recently. It was magnificent.
    One piece of advice, if I may: the only flaw in your videos is usually the sound. I think you could benefit from a clip microphone and something to stop the wind covering the voice in this case.
    Apart from that, great job! Thank you.

    fantastic work. A gentle hand is always admirable so long as it gets the job done sufficiently. This does that and more. I really appreciate your work and have been tackling a rather stressful time with bonsai and your channel is one of my favorites, if not my favorite, to view for inspiration. Very informative and your style is refreshing yet still in line with traditional technique.

    Literati is my favourite. Very elegant! It's a shame that the daughter had no interest. My intention with my trees is to hand them down to my children. But when they're old enough, I will teach them about how to maintain them.
