    As a massage therapist, I would love it if people talked about it as a medical necessity, you said you need it sometimes, we need it all of the time! Nothing bougee about it! Saying it is continues the shame in doing it, especially on a regular basis, we struggle as it is to get enough business coming in, we love it when our clients are our spokesman and preach the benefits and necessity in getting regular massages! Would you say going to PT appointments is bougee? Just a thought🥰 and as a true massage "therapist" we absolutely can feel these changes, that's what we are paid to do, pay close attention to those changes and work accordingly. Muscle density can change with water weight, muscle activity, etc etc but you very well may be correct in that helping.

      @eamon1648 because there's little to no negatives to receiving them, it's like working out. If you work out in time you're only going to feel better, have better balance, muscle function, endurance, energy, and optimal health. Same goes for massage. The benefits are too many to list. But 99.9% of the time you're going to feel better and have better health after receiving on a regular basis over time. It takes time to see this switch occur. But I'd say 99.9% of us don't even realize how bad we feel until we do something that makes us feel better than ever. Is it a necessity no. Is it a benefit to all who stick to it yes. But as with just about anything we do to our bodies that changes it from what it is used to there is a short period of time where you may feel "worse" before you feel better, that is completely normal and part of the process of changing your body.

    I just wrapped up my first week on creatine. I’m not loading or anything, just doing the 3-5 grams a day and I’ve already noticed more mass on my arms. I’m someone who gets incredibly lean when eating clean and lifting weights, so I’m thankful that creatine is adding back some density for me. I also noticed that taking creatine and amino acids has helped me recover from workouts incredibly fast. Two weeks ago I could only do legs once, maybe twice a week because they were too sore. The first week of taking creatine and BCAAs I was able to do a quad focused leg day, a glute focused leg day, and the third leg day I used body weight only and focused on my adductors and abductors because my inner thighs are exceptionally weak and tight which causes me pain during my runs. I’m excited for continued results!

      @julianzacconievas Před rokem +61

      Hey guys! Welcome to the wellness community. Since you are self-declared new folk, I thought I'd summarise the most important aspects of supplementation:
      - First and foremost, unless your doctor tells you that you NEED a supplement, you never need a supplement.
      - Second, step one of supplementing is making sure your diet prioritises whole foods and provides you with enough fruit, veggies and water
      - For the first few years of your fitness life, your focus would primarily be in building good habits, cultivating a good relationship with food, finding physical activity that you enjoy and is safe for your body. Enough activity and good nutrition cover 95% of the stuff you will ever need.
      - To lose weight you have to generate an energy deficit (also called caloric deficit: means you must eat less than your body expends)
      - To gain weight you have to be in an energy surplus (you eat more than your body expends)
      - To recomp (lose fat and gain muscle at the same time) you have to create an energy deficit and create enough stimulus for your body to know it needs to generate muscle (meaning you have to work out - the main driver for muscle growth is being discussed all the time, but basically mechanical tension and progressive overload are your safest bets)
      - Eating enough protein is important for generating and retaining muscle mass. A general basic rule is eating 1,5 gr of protein per kg of body weight. Depending on genetics, activity levels and other (LESS IMPORTANT) factors, you might want to go up or down.
      - Whey, casein and most vegan protein powders are not really supplements, they are food, you can think of them as milk powder (with a different macro nutrient composition). It is convenient and can help make sure you hit your target for protein consumption (they also tend to taste SUPER nice)
      - Creatine is super safe (as safe as it gets really) and can help you with your appearance and with strength (it also helps your organs). Creatine is supplemented by taking 3gr to 5gr (a tiny scoop usually comes in the package for you to use) every day. Timing doesn't matter other than taking it every day. Some people might need more, or less. Creatine works through saturation, meaning your body will secrete whatever it doesn't use.
      - Preworkouts are usually a waste of time. My advice to you is to eat an apple and have a coffee instead.
      - Don't buy EAAs or BCAAs, they are a scam. Just make sure you are eating your protein target.
      To answer your question: supplements don't determine whether you lose or gain weight, that's just the total energy (calorie) consumption. So, yes, if you consume a lot of food you don't need, and some of that food is protein powders, you will gain fat. Creatine won't have that effect, because it doesn't contribute any meaningful amount of energy, it just helps your body in creating something call ATP which is what your muscles need to generate work (move). It also draws water to your muscle cells, which gives you a more muscular and defined appearance (no bloating).
      Anecdotally I can tell you guys I started taking creatine 7 years ago, I saw a very quick (3 weeks) increase in my strength, which was expected. I take protein powder every day (and have been for about 12 years) and I always sit somewhere between 68kg and 72kg, which is my desired weight. I don't track calories because I am a dad of 2 young children and I can't honestly choose my meals, but I recommend you track calories if you can fit it in your lifestyle. This is a very long comment, let me know if you have questions I might be able to answer.

    • @PinkKoalas
      @PinkKoalas Před 9 měsíci +7

      This comment is 10000% right. forget about “will this product make me gain weight. “ weight matters but it’s all relative to your height, and fitness goals. Don’t get caught up with your weight on the scale, there are many other factors to look at when on your fitness journey. If you’re a beginner, I wouldn’t start taking supplements. Focus on your diet first, then your sleep, water intake, and then exercise. THEN you can worry about the weight on the scale and supplements.

    does it make you gain water weight? I hate feeling bloated.

    • @julianzacconievas
      @julianzacconievas Před rokem +8

      It doesn't. People often attribute a bloating effect to it but that's almost exclusively a combination of nocebo effect (people feel that way because they anticipate they will feel bad) and poor hydration. If you start taking creatine, you'd be wise to up your water intake for about three weeks (a couple extra glasses of water a day is usually enough). Your body draws more water into the muscle cells (this is known as a volumising effect) while it becomes saturated with creatine, so the water has to come from somewhere. Many people feel bloated when dehydrated because their digestion slows down. The attributable side effects of creatine are truly rare. You already consume creatine when you eat animal products, so you'd most likely know if you were a genetic outlier that would struggle with it. Drawing water into your cells doesn't mean you will feel bloated or that you will be gaining water weight. Strictly speaking, yes - more water becomes part of your body. But that's the mechanism that your body uses to take advantage of the benefits of creatine. The result is not 'bloating', but a more muscular and better defined appearance, and improved work capacity through higher availability of ATP. And the beauty is you can always stop taking it.

But if you've been working on someone for a long time you can definitely notice changes like that - usually I just notice that with repeat sessions clients feel squishier and hopefully are experiencing less pain and more mobility.
