Artemis is a Captain (they call Watch Captains) of the Deathwatch, the Space marine force usually attached to the Ordo Xenos - the Inquisition's Alien Hunters.

Been playing Deathwatch since they became available. My favorite thing about them? Any space marine model can be a Deathwatch marine if you're creative enough- and your entire Deathwatch army can be composed of 'characters' rather than just rank and file marines.
I'd like some carcharadons in it, I wish an actual carcharadon model set would be made

The Deathwatch is absolutely vital to the continue survival of the Imperium and Mankind. For ten thousand years of service the Deathwatch is responsible for the security of Imperium against all Xenos races, and no doubt they were honored for single one of their actions, but now the Imperium is surrounded by monsters from mortal men nightmares.
Ok so we did kinda fuck up the octarious sector a bit. BUT we still screwed up less than everyone elts.

The Deathwatch is my favorite branch of Astartes. It exemplifies what Astartes where meant to be. They are great and a game featuring them would be amazing. I love my Blood Angels and White Scars but this game would be great as people could play multiple chapters together.

I know some people see the Deathwatch and Greyknights as a super team that cant lose but lore wise it is a group made up of the best the Space Marines can give. No chapter wants to send a bad soldier because anyone they send will represent the chapter in the eyes of the Deathwatch. Every marine is a seasoned vet and someone the chapter expects to come home alive to share their learned knowledge from their time in the Deathwatch to bolster their chapters knowledge of how to fight the xenos. Being a Space Wolf fan I would find it fun to read about one joining the Deathwatch and their trouble trying to fit into a completely new squad since they are so used to fighting and dying with the marines they start with and not exactly being the easiest of chapters for others to work with.

So in 9E do Deathwatch HAVE to use kill-teams, or are they merely an option? Can they still take "regular" primaris squads (like 6 aggressors, or would they have to be 5 heavy intercessors and 5 aggressors)?
The Deathwatch can take both regular squads and killteams from what I've read in the codex. But the killteams have minimum starting requirements, such as the Spectrus needing 5 Infiltrators as a basis and then the other members are added on top. The teams can be split in two though through combat squads, so you'd essentially have a squad of Infiltrators and a squad of mixed phobos units under one troop choice.

Anyone else out there think the deathwatchs lore should be retconned and/or expanded to involve them in every branch of the inquistion? I feel like limiting the use of the Deathwatch to the ordo xenos only is a discredit and takes away the possibility of various stories with the likes of deamons, traitor inquistors, ect. Especially when considering there one of the coolest and most diverse faction in the entirety of the imperium.
... I also feel they should keep their original chapters colors and only take on the silver pauldron, as to make squads look cooler, but thats just me.

dont get me wrong, i love the deathwatch as a concept, but the logistics around them simply doesnt make sense. killteams are very small, they are supposed to be some kind of "space seals against xenos" afterall, but thats precisely the point: xenos, specially orks and tyranids, usually attack in huge, uncountable numbers, so a very speciallized small tactical team cant do anything about it. most of those battle goes like "they fought fiercely, but were simply outnumbered by an insane scale so everyone died". its seems a very bad strategy, sacrificing veteran marines with state of art equipment. they succeed mostly against eldari, who are naturally in small numbers, and as a backup for the astra militarum in huge battles, attacking enemy commanders and strategic points. but on their on, not so much. its clear that a deathwatch astarte can take any xeno on a 1on1 fight, but those are rare exceptions, xenos come in numbers. its sad how they are underused, since theyre one of the coolest chapters

Do Grey knights recruit from the Deathwatch exclusively?
No. Grey knights are built differently. They are space marines. But not like their cousins. They can’t admit other chapters. Those legions were built using primarch geneseed. Grey knights it’s seed taken from the emperor.
