Imagine being one of the last survivors of a traitor insurrection on the fringes of space. Your small craft detects something nearby, something large. In the dark depths of space no light from any sun reaches and so their is only void. You gaze through the deck of your ship looking to make out any object. But you see that while you see stars all around you their is a large area where their are none but then more appear as if they pop into existence while others disappear on the other side of the blank space. Something is moving, terrified you slowly turn on sensors again, the detected object is larger than a cruiser. Slowly you go to turn on the spotlight, fearful you almost don’t want to find out what it is but you persevere. As the switch flies, your light doesn’t even reveal the entirety of the figure, it’s a ship, a massive one. You feel the craft shake, alarms ring, lights flash, and then you here it. Those slow metallic foots steps, you lock the door to your deck. The crew mates scream, lazguns fire, bolters let loose a hail merry but to no avail. In less than a minute the sound of overwhelming combat, it all goes silent. Again you hear those metallic foot steps. They approach the door and you grab your bolt pistol, you have two options you think to yourself as they begin to peel at the door. You raise your bolt pistol as the lights flash and fumes fill the room, through the dents in the door you see those red glowing eyes. The barrel reaches your temple as you accept your fate, close your eyes and…..

Despite all this, they are barbaric to outsiders as they massacre innocents to draw the traitor and harvest aspirants for their lonely crusade.

"Sharr had seen him in action once, decades ago. It had been years since any of the Third Company’s Ancients had been woken from their deep, cold slumber, years since they had faced a threat so dire that Nikora and Uthulu had dared to drag one of the resurrected heroes back to full consciousness. Itako screamed. It was a horrible noise, part human, part machine, grating and grinding from the vox-grille set in the war machine’s breastplate. It was something inimical to the void brethren in the cathedra, a shattering of traditions, a reminder that whatever was now nestled within the Contemptor’s armoured shell, it was far removed from the warrior that had once been. Such was the price of waking one of the Wandering Ancestors. Once unleashed, there was little that could be predicted, bar that they would wreak devastation."

OMG Baldermort! Please do the Minotaurs or Asterion Moloc! I love how you do your content! Since you love lore I present you this ^.^
This is from "Regent's Shadow" and it was caused by my favorite Chapter Master, Asterion Moloc. It is a wall of text but I know you love lore so here you go!
[Context: In this scene, Valerian, Hero of Lion's Gate and our PoV custodes sees Asterion Moloc for the first time in person -- during a conference between the Minotaurs, Imperial Fists and the Custodes to discuss the troubles on Terra shortly after Guilliman's departure.]
"Moloc was, of course, the centrepiece of the display. He wore Terminator armour, of the old Tartaros configuration, which made him massive even amid the rest of that heavily armoured company. Whereas Valoris was a picture of grizzled splendour, and Garadon carried himself with a plain kind of martial dignity, Moloc looked like some barbarian warlord out of the legends of pre-Unification Terra. His plate was clearly of the highest quality, but had been engineered with a feral aesthetic, one that conjured up images of sacrificial rites and arcane combat-rituals. To look at him was to catch a glimpse of a world of riddles and myths, of burning braziers and bloodied axe heads, of secrets locked within secrets, bound about with labyrinths of iron and stone.
I have encountered many formidable warriors in my time. Valoris, of course, was reckoned the greatest alive in the Imperium save the primarch himself. And yet, just there, in that place, I can say without hesitation that Asterion Moloc, Chapter Master of the Minotaurs, exuded the most powerful stench of violence I had ever been in the presence of."
[Nearing the end of the book, and without spoiling too much of the story -- Valerian finds himself in opposition to Moloc and the Minotaurs. The minotaurs have him and his party cornered when the Brazen Warlord makes his entrance.]
"The ranks of Militarum troops parted, and the Minotaurs made their way to the forefront. There were thirty of them, with no doubt more making their way from positions further down the long aisles. They carried themselves like executioners, stalking deliberately, bolters trained on us, power weapons crackling.
Once they were in position, just a few meters from the first steps up to the podium, they, too, halted. They formed up in two lines, spread out before us, leaving a gap between to allow their master to emerge.
Moloc wore his Tartaros armour, as ever, the bronze of it near-black, its ornate surface engraved with runes and esoteric patterns. His footfalls were purposively heavy, sending spiderwebs of cracks across the damaged stone. He carried a power spear of a similar pattern to ours, though it was darker and older than any I had borne. His red cloak hung like molten lead across his angular shoulders, and he carried a circular shield with symbols engraved on it that I could not decipher.
I watched him approach, trying to ascertain some weakness, some flaw that I could use against him. I detected nothing. He may as well have been an automaton, a battle-creation forged in some dark and forgotten laboratory and sent into the world of the living. Who could have halted such a monster? Valoris, in all probability. Guilliman, without a doubt. Beyond that, and as for myself, I felt no certainty.
I took a step forward, moving between Moloc and Fadix, angling the tip of my spear towards the oncoming Chapter Master.
‘No further,’ I commanded, gripping the stave tight with both hands.
Moloc always wore his mask. I had never seen him without it. I picked up nothing behind that metallic visage, nothing at all, except maybe that furnace-aura of aggression he always projected, smouldering deep within the rune-guarded heart of ceramite and sinew.
He kept coming. He carried his spear formally, as if it were some kind of sacrificial totem, a curse-warded instrument for the ritual killing of beasts. The lenses in his archaic helm were black, and to look into them felt like looking into the void itself. There was a swagger in his every movement, a rolling, baleful demonstration of pure contempt.
‘No further,’ I warned again, tensing to strike. The moment he took a step on to the podium stairs, I would move.
To this day, I do not know what would have happened if he had done so. I suffer neither from doubt nor from pride, and so can only speculate from the evidence I had before me. Perhaps I would have found a way. I had felled some of the greatest warriors of the enemy in my time, including many who most certainly had possessed the power to best me.
But, with Moloc, I cannot be sure.
We were only prevented from coming together in combat by the sudden spit and crackle of a single teleport column streaking down from the cathedral’s ruined heights. The ether-vortex locked on to Ravathain’s loc-signal, crashing into the nave’s tortured floor, splashing against the flags of the podium and boiling away. As I felt the rush of sudden cold, and saw the white-silver energy reflect in Moloc’s burnished plate, I thought for a moment that Valoris had come, or perhaps Garadon, bringing with them the reinforcements we needed to fight our way out.
I was to be disappointed. Instead, a single figure emerged from the guttering warp-flame to stand by my side. It was a woman, clad in protective gear for the ether-translation but otherwise unarmed. I knew her only by sight - Violeta Roskavler, one of the two who had claimed ownership of the title Master of the Administratum. Except that her rival was now dead, extinguished by an assassin’s bullet, removing all possible doubt as to her legitimacy.
She said nothing to me. She said nothing to anyone else. In front of all those thousands of fighters, in front of all the assembled Space Marines, any one of which could have ended her with a single shot, she walked steadily down the steps. She came up to Moloc, looking less than a child before his colossal frame. I saw her hold up the icon of her office - the sigil of beaten iron borne by its holders since the dawn of the Imperial Age - but otherwise make no gesture.
Moloc let her approach. He waited for her, as if suddenly subject to some hex or enchantment, his mighty limbs bound by unseen forces. When she lifted herself to speak into his ear, he bent down to allow her, so that the words passed between them unheard by any other soul in that place.
Having spoken, Roskavler then withdrew from him, walking back up the steps to join us again. Moloc straightened. He looked at me, and then at Fadix. Silence reigned across the entire cavernous space, unbroken and complete.
Then, slowly, he turned away. He trudged back the way he had come, his cloak flicking around his ankles, and his warriors followed him.
I watched them all go. The whole time, I never loosened the grip on my spear."
[Valerian is a Custodes and a particularly notable one at that. He's the Hero of Lion's gate. Together with Aleya, they took down a full-fledged Bloodthirster during the Battle for Lion's Gate and murdered waves and waves of elite Black Legionnaires for hours aboard the chaos grand cruiser the Heartspite during the events of the Emperor's Legion. In the preceding scene he'd also casually dispatched a Primaris Minotaur with little effort.
As a Custodes, naturally he cannot feel fear, doubt or pride and yet, and yet... the prospects of engaging Asterion Moloc in single combat causes him pause.
Here, Lord Asterion Moloc, is a true monster who is fully aware of just how monstrous he is. He swaggers and revels in his strength and exhibits absolutely none of Valerian's uncertainty at the prospects of facing down one of the Ten Thousand.]

Their level of savagery and the fear they seem to cultivate, their terrifying mutations, in combination with their unfailing loyalty and self-control in avoiding tormenting the loyal and innocent makes them seem less like a standard but mutated Raven Guard successor and more like a chapter sprung from the results of Corvus Corax's geneseed experiments. He reportedly slew the failed Raven Guard inductees at the end of his experiments personally and at great cost to his own heart and mind, but who's to say a chapter apothecary didn't find or keep hidden some of the research, and use it and the experimental geneseed to create successors? Their stocks of seed were desperately low, after all, and few would complain that a new battle brother was more pale or black-eyed than normal in a chapter of pale, dark-eyed Astartes. That apothecary going with the first Shade Lord and applying his research to try and maintain the stability and strength of the geneseed would make total sense.
That said, as always, the mystery is part of the fun of Warhammer, and the Carcharodons are far better for the many small mysteries about them that remain unanswered.
Love the lore reading, as always!

    • @alyseleem2692
      @alyseleem2692 Před 3 lety +2

Interesting, but how do we explain their mythology and antiquity otherwise? Why were they banished? If the Shadelord is indeed the Forgotten One,then the Carcaredons are not technically a Chapter of any Founding. They're a nomad fleet of former Raven Guards changed through the millennia from their original Chapter by ten thousand years of divergent evolution and mutation in their gene-seed.

You miss that the lore says they were inspected and no mutations were found, and accepted on a limited basis to side the Imperium.
So, no, they are not mutated.

One of the most deadliest Space Marines Chapters that currently resides within the Imperium frontiers, and they are a legendary savage chapter that shows no quarter to their enemies. They are a mysterious chapter, one whose origins are hidden even from them, but one cannot deny that they are brutally effective within the battlefield.

When I was first getting into the hobby, it was at the height of the Ultramarine obsession GW had, and I thought that the Space Marines were pretty dull. But the more I find out about them, the more interesting they become, especially the more obscure chapters like these guys and the Marines Malevolent.
