Truck turns on beautifully now. did this all on my own thank you so much! Very helpful video. To install a sparkplug, I believe it is best to use a rubber fuel line hose to thread the sparkplug in, then tighten it down with a ratchet and socket. This makes it easier to get the plug started, and avoid cross-threading.

    I just completed one of these spark plug r&r for a neighbor. My hands are big ol arthritic clubs, so getting into tight spaces is not much fun. I found it to be a whole lot easier to go in through the wheel wells. Takes about ten minutes to remove the wheels and pull back the splash liners, saves a lot of time and you can actually see most of the plugs. In fact, I probably had more trouble with number one than with 8. Do one bank, then start the truck. That way, if you have an issue, you can narrow it down to bank one or two.

    I just did one of these for a neighbor (pro bono). Had I ever done a spark plug change on the 2nd gen GM SUV, I'd have told him no. lol I found it much, much easier to remove the front wheels and pull back the splash liners. I used an assortment of extensions and u-joints. I don't have a flex head ratchet, probably need to get one. I'm retired, and don't (for a bunch of reasons) take any side jobs for pay. So very rarely do I work on a car that doesn't belong to a direct family member.

    if i'm not mistaken, that hard one to get to on the passenger side (bank 2) with the plate in the way is slightly more accessible from underneath (5:27). though if it's really stuck on there, i'm not sure what adapters or attachments would be suitable given the lack of space. i was tempted to just remove that shield/plate (4 small bolts?), but i fortunately got the spark plug loose with just a stubby 3/8". cheers for showing that view mate!

    Sometimes those GM plug wires with the metal heatshield ends are SUPER HARD to get off!
    The best way to get them off, that I found, is to snap a small pair of needle nose vicegrips onto the edge of the heatshield. That gives you a better hold than your fingers and thumbs can ever do. You can even get a large size pry bar in there to push against the ends of the vicegrips. Sometimes prying with one hand, and shaking and yanking the vicegrips with the other hand are what it takes.
    They can be a real bugger to get off!!! Be sure to grease them up real good with dialectric grease or the likes before reinstallation.

    Hey bro,
    what size gap should I use for my 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 LS 4.8 ? It says .060 on the manual but the AC Delco plugs I bought are at .050. Yet my engine is very shaky with the check engine light on after the tune up I did. The plugs and wires are new, thanks.

    • @backyardchevy328
      @backyardchevy328  Před 4 lety +2

      They have a new revised gap..because .060 was a little wide..so it was updated to .040..but they do tend to come pregapped at around .044 which is a good gap still. Have u scanned what the check engine light is for? The gap shouldnt cause a misfire if theyre all the same..only if the tip is closed or fouled...i would go around and make sure all the wires clicked in fully into the plugs.
