What’s your favourite Japanese drink and which one would you like to try the most? Let us know down below!
Also thanks to those who pointed out the lil' slip up in our title - *Foreigners (and Shiori) living in Japan rate Japanese drinks 😉🥤
Ramune lychee flavour and I'd like to try picari sweat
I love Pocari Sweat, Calpis and Ramune
Grape Ramune is pretty bomb, and Pocari Sweat goes down really easy!
CC Lemon is definitely my favorite of them all.
Pocari & yakult 💯👌
Everyone else: "It's pretty good"
Chris: "Milky disappointment MINUS 5/10, Looks abhorrent MINUS 20/10"
When someone says calpis it sounds like cowpiss lol
I’m down with Chris on that, as a British person who doesn’t have sugar in their tea it sounds HORRIBLE.
@@theinacircleoftheancientpu492 Agreed, as a german who primarily drink (green)tea without anything it does kinda sounds like an abomination. But hey, if people enjoy it, why not ?
@@theinacircleoftheancientpu492 Don't British people drink tea with milk though? In my country we call it "Bavarian tea" but I've always seen it associated with GB in media. Sugar is just a preference and you can find sugarless milk tea in Japan as well.
It's def a bit of a hate crime against tea. But judging it as what it is, which is basically just a smooth milkshake that has a hint of tea. It's fine.
I just can’t unhear “cow piss”
Every Marine who found themselves stationed Japan does this, first because they couldn't get the pronunciation right and then as a joke.
I had to rewind and turn on subtitles when I heard Chris say that he liked “cow piss”.
Omg its nick!
its...calpis... XD
Same, Calpis/Calpico sounds like
they are saying “Cow Piss”
Its hilarious! 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
When Chris is on the screen: screen becomes 4k
Everyone else : 144p
Chris is a bit of a filming nerd and has a dedicated rig, the rest probably used their phones or laptops.
The quality of his footage is fueled by his distain and disappointment for subpar beverages
@@animeducky9 I actually read your comment in his voice... this may be a sign i watch too much of his videos :')
because he's so cute even cameras super-focus 😄
It's because they were in a video call and used their webcams
"foreigners living in japan"

very sus
Chris vented. I was doing lights.
Yellow?
*Foreigners + Shiori 😉
I was in med lab.
1:45 Emma with the brightest smile that will light up your day: "So...I got severe dehydration last year"
I want to know _how._ Did she make a video about it?
She's adorable
@@ThreadBomb When I lived in Tokyo during the summer I got really bad dehydration as well just by existing. I thought I was drinking a lot of fluids too but the doctor told me I had to drink a 2 litre Pocari Sweat every day and wear a hat to protect against the sun. Granted, I'm Scandinavian so 33+ degrees Celsius every day for more than 2 months straight is really bad I guess. :P
Devilchu I was over there in late July in '18, when they were breaking records, I had to go to Shinjuku to pick up the keys to my apartment, and I was walking around towing my suitcase when it hit 43. For a month every day I was drinking Pocari, water, "ionized water", basically any non-alcoholic liquid I could find. Thank God and the Japanese lifestyle for all the vending machines! I have to say, my favorite royal milk tea was "The Pungency", I loved the name!
@@Devilchu How humid is it in Tokyo during the summer generally?
All this taught me is that Aki doesn't like to drink stuff.
She clearly prefers eating...
123 abc didn’t have to do her like that😭
Her perpetually chapped lips told me that.
@123 abc I can see that haha
damn, yall are mean
16:14 Chris: “I give Boss 6/10”
16:30 Graph: “Chris said that Boss is over 9000!”
I swear to god every time he says "Cow piss" it gets me😂😂
Well, that's what it tastes like :P
exactly.. it should be pronounced Cal-Peace.. by people who cant pronounce it properly.
I'm very disappointed in all of you for not drinking them on the spot to give more accurate ratings.
Yes, that's what I was expecting. There were too many "I haven't tried it" answers.
They don't have the budget to buy all those drinks for everyone.
And after strong zero, they all blacked out
@@Mwoods2272 a lot of them are around a dollar except the bigger Alcohol bottles lol
@@wahyuyohoho5627 People really overestimate Strong Zero. It barely has double the alcohol of a single beer so unless this much can get you drunk or you drink it very quick and in larger quantities, then you're fine.
Emma: "there's something about japanese milk tea that just HITS DIFFERENT."
*breathes erratically*
Connor: "AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!"
I DIED WHEN SHE SAID THAT AHHHHHHHHHHHH
5:40
I can hear him screaming ffs 😂
as usual, chris does not disappoint
ngl after a lil bit all i did was watch chris's parts and laugh
Das cos Chris is always disappointed
They know how to get views just stick chris on the thumbnail to pull in the punters, works everytime..... On me at least anyway.
Guilty as charged
I have noticed they seem to do this 😂
Emma" Maybe I just want things I can't have"
Don't we all..
life init
What do you think about Strong Zero?
Everyone: It's strong so 3
Chris: It's strong so 8
Yeah, it's not that strong unless you have no resistance to alcohol (like most Japanese people). It's like a watered down carbonated daiquiri (less sweet though). Better than beer on a hot day but otherwise nothing special.
@@Ainar86 I had three back to back when I was visiting. It sneaks up if you're not paying attention to the time and you're having too much fun.
@@Ainar86 It's 9% alcohol, or if you get the right one 12%, so it does hit a bit hard compared to other malts, which are usually about 5% and max at 7%. Might not have the same percentage as a straight liquor, but then it tastes more like a soda so it's easier to not realize how much alcohol you've really had.
That said, Suntory's Horoyoi is far superior in my opinion. At 3%, it's much smoother and doesn't have the alcohol taste, and you can drink it pretty much continuously without worrying about getting blackout drunk and waking up the next day with a hangover.
@@SvafaBlackhand Oh, yeah, Horoyoi is in a different class and the yuzu one is actually my favourite alcoholic drink that's not straight alcohol. Strong Zero is for salary men and a certain kind of tourist who just want to get effed up.
@@Ainar86 the thing is we drink it at the same rate or faster than beer, and that almost double alcoholic content really becomes noticeable as every big can is almost like a full-sized beer bottle, minus the extra water content.
I was usually strong to alcohol, but after 2 big cans I was already tipsy hahahah, definitely the most pleasantly cheap way to get drunk
I’m Japanese but had this opportunity! 😂Here’s the list! Copy and paste + let us know what you think!
Pocari sweat
High ball
Lemon sour
Go Go no Milk Tea
Calpico
Soy milk
Melon soda
Ramune soda
Plum wine
Yakult
Boss coffee
Strawberry Milk
Strong Zero
C.C. Lemon
Roasted green tea
Hopefully this is all 😅😅
Japanese snacks next
Everyone: Rates drink
Aki: eeeeh idk maybe if someone offered me it i'd drink it
and then there's Chris, who hates on everything, what a surprise : )
Well he's like a salted Lemon at times, still I think he's absolutely hilarious.
And I love him for it 😂 pls never change, Chris.
He's british, his taste buds don't count
@@markusmottus1686 I'd probably like that too as long as it's not too sweet
@@corbynmejia2340 britian, which is actually a bunch of different countries not one has all the same food America has but we have food hygine standards so its usually better.
I'm not saying Chris is old, but he remembers when all this was trees.
This whole internet used to be farms when I were a boy!
You're forgetting sharla is 4 years older than HIM😂😂😂😂🤣
You kids...
but he is the one offering the best scores!
Chris isn't old, he just likes to use self depreciation jokes. Classic British humor. 😉
Drink: *exists*
Sharla: TOO SWEET
I think you mean Shiori, not Sharla?
@@ThreadBomb no sharla too
Shes a boss thou, chuggin the strong zero
When it comes to sugar in drinks the Japanese like extremes so it's either sugarless (like most bottled tea) or very sweet (sodas and juices). The few exceptions being alcoholic drinks, CC lemon and the like as well as recently popular "craft coffee" drinks.
"Hey everyone, this video is going to be a little laid back and informal, we're gonna talk about Japanese drinks! Just use your webcam and email us the compressed mpeg."
*1 Week Later*
"Wa- Why is Chris' file 100 times larger than everyone else's?"
The most amusing thing I found out in this video is that Shiori is 30!!
30 inches!
This group is full of age deceiving people, sharla is 34 but doesn’t look a day over 26 and Chris is 30 but looks 35
@@DenisseG poor dave
@@DenisseG wow, Sharla is already 34 oh my!!! she looks way younger
When I lived in Japan in the 80's every vending machine had "Meiji Coffee Milk" and i loved it! So disappointed that this drink isn't around anymore in Japan. It was in a small square tetrapack. There are other coffee milks, but not that sweet cold and deliciousness one from my memories.
In the Inaka Parts it is around, or at least in Shikoku... I do recall seeing that Brand or might be Thinking of another one, also I only found in Shikoku the One I like that is a Vitamin Soda that tastes like medicine, it is yellow and has LOTS of Vitamins, it is a yellow can with some red in it, that is why maybe in Inaka Parts there is still that brand around maybe.
Quick google search showed me it's available online so you must be able to buy it somewhere...
Isn't this?
www.meiji.co.jp/products/drink/4902705117570.html
The second I get off the plane in Narita I immediately find that closest vending machine with CC Lemon. I love super tart lemonade so It’s one of the things I miss most about Japan. Also they make a melon cream soda that is amazing. You first taste the melon then as you exhale you get a rush of cream flavor, it’s really good. My friend bought 4 cans to bring back home and they made her throw them away at the airport, she didn’t think to chug one before going through security.
5:41 Oh no, it's spreading. Gigguk, what have you done...
:D :D :D
I had the visualisation of her saying that on the trash taste podcast and the guys exploding over it 🤣
You know Joey has converted her
Shiori - looks and sounds like an angel amongst us...
Also Shiori - I like drinking, this is a wanna get f*cked up drink.
I absolutely love the crossover videos with so many people! Fun!
every other person: "crunchy resolution"
Chris: "play this in an imax"
Only person investing money in a good camera!
@@Tchernobog11 the thing is they're all professional CZcamsrs and they all have decent cameras, idk why he's the only one using it
@@SorchaSublime Because he filmed alone in the TC studio and the rest of us filmed it live over Zoom
@@sharlainjapan oh did he? that makes sense i guess, i wouldnt have thought that the studio would have been available at the time.
These zoon type videos are great! It allows you guys to be able to continue making lots of fun content for us to enjoy while still staying safe ☺️
Love @AbroadInJapan's take on anything, he makes anything sound sketchy.
Thank you for this video! Great pick me up for the week!
Chris: I give Calpis an 8
Also Chris: I give Yakult a 0
But the taste is similar!?
Right?! I love Calpis but can rarely get a hold of it where I live and the closest I can get to the taste is mixing Yakult with sparkling water... xD
I love calpis but Yakult is only ok. They really don't taste the same at all.
Not really, Yakult is much sweeter than Calpis, it's more like yogurt than a milk drink. There's always a weird sensation you get in the back of your throat when you drink Yakult that you don't get with Calpis. I can drink a whole bottle of Calpis but not a whole bottle of Yakult.
Chris and Aki makes this conversation enjoyable to listen to.
I actually didn't know Yakult is a Japanese drink. Even as an adult I still buy many of that sometimes. Because of how much I love it. 😂😂😂
Calpico is one my favorite drinks I've been fortunate enough to try. So glad to see people enjoy it as much as I do.
Glad to hear there are good dairy free options in Japan. I'm allergic to dairy too. Checking for dairy in U.S. products is a never ending struggle... It's in everything.
I once found out the hard way that BBQ potato chips had dairy in them. Why? Why must dairy be in everything? I know the struggle. I spend too much time reading ingredients on products at the store and have to pay more for vegan items.
A lot of people in Asia are lactose intolerant, and I'm guessing Japan understands this well enough to include dairy free options.
So interesting to see everyone's particular tastes in drinks 😆
Love you guys!!!!
Could we get " Shiori's Booze Reviews " as a future segment please 😀
Useful info for when I get over there Thanx
Emma just there enjoying all things in life, hope i can find someone like that in my life.
I miss the grape sodas and jelly drinks from Japan so much. Pocari sweat is a close second but nothing beats finding a refreshing grape drink in a station vending machine
Peach sake. Also those little cans of orange juice with the pulp in them are amazing.
What a fun video! I hope to see more like it. Maybe Japanese desserts next?? 🍨🍡🍮
I love the fact we are getting Pokari in the US soon. I can get pokari sweat by the case on occasion at the Japanese market.
i love these videos. You guys ever consider doing these types of videos but with a more specific category? Like instead of Japanese foods, itd be more like instant noodle bowls? or instead of Japanese drinks, itd be rating different teas? Id love to see how everyone thinks of the gazillion different tea options they have, hot or cold, including the traditional teas you get at ceremonies etc. :D
What a fun lineup 😊
Aki gave everything 5😂
She gave one 4
chris: "bad bad bad bad" - coffee shows up "10/10 bad bad bad bad"
great video guys! I remember when I tried strong zero for the first time (grape flavour), I got hammered so quickly after one can that I wasn't sure if I can find my way to hostel (it was my first ever day in Japan). Thou I still love this drink and have it every time I go to Japan :D
Strong Zero made our first evening in Japan memorable!
Memorable in the sense that i had to tell my friend how to unlock the shower door moments before he burst through it, ripping the hinges out with the screws.
I can also quote him saying that "I perceived it as geometrically impossible to make the bed" as i also had to help him with that.
The gaijin killer gets 10/10!
I see Chris I click, it's that simple!
me too! 😅
When my brother and I were in Japan we became obsessed with Pepsi Strong. Idk what was different about it but we would search for it wherever we went, definitely recommend to drink on a busy hot day!
Thank You all i really enjoyed this. Like having a good friend talking to me. Arigato
I see Chris. I click.
how I ended here! 😄
Akidearest: _"I've never had that, but, somehow I'm still going to rate it"_
Eeeeeh. Okay?
I got the feeling from this video that Aki wanted to be negative about most of the drinks. Did any of them score above a 5 in her eyes?
Like comment and shared before 1 minute into the video just for having Chris in the video
I laughed way more than I should do have at 10:05, Emma raving about Soy Milk, saying just how good it is and giving it a 10/10, then there's Chris...
Pocari Sweat is amazing stuff. We had it on our first trip and it really helped out with dehydration from travelling there from the UK. We have sachets of the drink mix in the cupboard now mainly in case of illness, I think we have enough in there to make up 10 litres if needed.
Cowpiss is definitely a favourite of mine, specially in its soda version. And you can find it in many konbini all around Asia, which is great.
I appreciate that Emily channeled Gigguk for a moment during the milk tea review. It really does hit different.
When I was in Japan, I drank CC Lemon all the time. When I got on the plane home, I'm pretty sure I was a lemon.
Chris is gold as per usual
Loved Itoen's green tea's when I was in Japan.
Japanese Milky tea is like the best! When I came to Japan for the first time, that was the first drink I had! I love sweet and milky drinks, and it was just perfect! 10/10 from me for milky tea.
Hojicha is so good!! My sister-in-law sent me an Okinawan special Hojicha (Kobuto Hojucha if my memory serves me well) and I had to physically restraint myself from drinking all of it at once. So good! I miss that tea...
Chirs is CRISP, and I'm here for it !
Climbing the hills around Kagoshima in 98% humidity and 32 degrees Celcius, Pocari Sweat literally kept me from dehydration and heat exhaustion. CC lemon was go to drink because it's everywhere.
Miracle in a bottle. Pocari and Barley Tea were my goto-s.
Never liked the BOSS coffee, but the Georgia coffee, hell yes! Emma's shirt colors reminds me of the Georgia coffee can.
Sharla: I don't like sugar
Also Sharla: I love milk tea
The milk tea has the most grams of sugar per serving
Does it? Gogo only has about 19g of sugar per serving (250mL). Sangria Melon Soda meanwhile has 27g for 240mL.
My go-to drinks when I traveled to Japan have been Pocari Sweat, Mitsuya Cider, and CC Lemon with Pocari my traveling drink, and Mitsuya my 'Nectar of the Gods'.
Nice Video, brings back lots of Memories... I missed Green Tea and Sokenbitcha in Your list. I love the Green Tea and hate Sokenbitcha ;) I also love Calpico, some asia shops here in Germany sell it as a concentrate - I love mixing it with mineral water to create Calpis Soda ❤️🎌🍵
these are the drinks i like from the list in the video lol pocari sweat, calpico, yakult, melon soda, strawberry milk, roasted green tea, gogo no kocha, and ramune soda.
Calpis is one my all time favourites. I'm sad whenever my local Asian grocer doesn't have it in stock.
pocari sweat is in Australia in some Asian grocery stores and I really enjoyed it as a sometime thing but when I went to Japan for my holiday and could get it at almost every convenience store and vending machine I was hooked on it 😅 also Boss coffee was my favourite.
havent had that many but cc lemon and that suntory green pop are what i like.
It hits different
I like calpico too. When I go to tomodachi at the mall of america I normally get 3-7 bottles. Ramune too.
I know we are moving into fall season but could you please do this with Japanese ice creams?😊😊 (Pino, Papico, Aisu no mi, etc.)
I've tried virtually every one of those when I was there in 2018 along with all the "clear" drinks that I found. Only need to try the Plum wine
Everyone talking about how Chris is the grumpy one but Sharla is just as bad LMFAO
her face when she talks about milk or soda is so annoying both things i can understand people avoid but they are pretty tasty
Well she’s pretty, that’s why.
@@ManDogBearPig I feel like I understand Sharla a bit more, since she's a vegan (which means by default milk is gonna get lower rated) and I agree with her on the soda front, but I do agree people need to talk about her more if we're talking about being negative.
I also feel it's because she's less contrarian: When Chris says something really negative, almost everyone else is being positive, but when Sharla is being really negative, it's more often when everybody is already giving that drink around a 5 or a 6, so it stands out less. I'm not saying I agree with it, she is really grumpy this video, and arguably just as bad as Chris, it's just easier to notice somebody saying "negative 20/10" when everybody is saying "9/10" than it is to notice somebody saying "1/10" when everyone else is saying "5/10".
Strong Zero is awesome. When traveling back to the US i go to multiple stores at the airport and fill my carry on bag with it 🤪
I would love it if they could discuss their scores with each other
I was surprised how nice Calpis was. I love the plum wine especially on ice 🥃
Looove the drinks here in Japan
I've had none of these but now I want some of these.
Shiori is hilarious 😂 would be fun on a night out!
it dev makes me wanna try alot more drinks!
UmoShu I miss good UmiShu so much that I go out of my way to find good umishu in the UK even though I have to pay and arm and a leg for it! It's honestly the best alcohol I've ever had. And I don't really drink alcohol. I often heat it up in the winter with cinnamon, orange, nutmeg and red currents to make my own winter spiced drink. So yummy!
When I was in japan for a week I lived on Pocari Sweat Peach flavour, it was the only thing that kept me from blacking out from the jet lag! XD
Calpico is so amazinggg
This video really hits different.
I've only lived in Japan for 6 month, but the kikkoman banana soy milk is reason enough to try and get a job there! 😍
I LOVE Ramune! Ramune soda, Ramune candy, sigh, I love it!
this was cool I hadn't heard of most of these but they all sound like drinks I would like to try at least once but any of the milk drinks sound delicious and definitely something I would want to try since I love milk so much all by itself
I couldn't stop looking at that ice cream lamp in that room🤣🍦
can't believe you guys missed mitsuya cider! that was my fave when I lived in Japan
It's probably mostly nostalgia, as it's been 16 years. But I really miss Pocari Sweat. I remember getting it all the time.
You should show what drink got the most points in the end. Show me the ranking! :D
Umeshu is a godlike drink. Can't get enough of it.
