This season was when Miami Vice was at the the peak of its popularity with very few episodes that were duds compared to the other seasons.

Unbelievable how Miami Vice only lasted 5 short seasons, in complete contrast to the cheap, toxic, cancerous reality TV shows like SURVIVOR and BIG BROTHER which have infested tv for the last entire 2 decades now. SMH
I read that the reason why Michael Mann chose to walk away after season 3, was because the studio and higher ups refused to greenlight a sixth season and beyond. Mann wanted to do more with the Crockett & Tubbs storylines, but due to falling ratings as other shows started overtaking MV unfortunately studio greed put an end to the show. Dick Wolf, who would later have great success with Law & Order, was Mann's replacement. Mann stayed on as Executive Producer (but was not as hands on as the earlier seasons). Which probably explains why the show 'jumped the shark' in the last 2 seasons. But it still remains a classic and paved the way for Morden day Cop shows today.

The only character who took Sonny's second wife and his unborn child and almost destroyed his life, but ultimately met his demise from Sonny's hand bcoz Sonny Crockett has no remorse for guys like Hackman
If Crockett doesn't succeed here, Hackman dies and he lives with the guilt of failing to protect an "innocent" man. Of course, we all know what happens after this incredible story turn...

@@Deborahtunes Yeah this scarred Sonny, who even though he got payback at the end of the Season 4 episode Deliver us from Evil came at the cost of losing his second wife and daughter unborn child. But not a only that but losing his sanity at the end of the season 4 closer Mirror Image when going undercover, an explosion causes him to lose his memory. Had Miami Vice continued into a sixth season, you probably would have gotten longer story arcs let like this.

Although this Hackman storyline concluded in Season 4 with Deliver us from Evil it did provide the lead in to the Burnett Season 4 closer Mirror Image and continuing with Season 5 double opener Hostile Taker & Redemption in Blood.🧀🕶️
Don't think you forget the look on sunnys face when hackman got away with it new he had been played big time also the music of a generation the music and tv show set a scene never to be matched
MV was chock full of downer endings, but this one was a particularly devastating letdown. Sonny followed every instinct he had and convinced himself that countermanding the corrupt and dysfunctional system he’s apart of would ensure that proper justice was done. In this case, the system happened to be correct. I’m sure the guilt alone from this outcome left him second-guessing himself for the rest of his career in law-enforcement. Under the circumstances, it’d be hard not to be left jaded and disillusioned, even for a seasoned professional of his stripe.
A time when Tv shows had some quality, you just new this was not the end, when Sonny got his pay back it was such a shock the moment he crossed the line. love Miami Vice a show that marked a high point in Tv in the 80s
Hackman has a place in the pantheon of great Miami Vice villains, right there with Calderon, Mosca, Col. Maynard (Captain Real Estate) and of course the great Charlie Glide.

Hackman thinking he would live long after that was pure foolishness. They could have had 4-5 more episodes of the hunting down and killing of Hackman and anyone tied to him by Crockett posing as Burnett. Now that would have been cool.

Sonny’s mistake of releasing Hackman ultimately cost him his future wife, unborn child and sanity.
After the death of little girl and her family, Sonny said that by getting Hackman off, he was responsible for any murder Hackman commits.
Sonny made up for it a year later by putting him out of his misery…forever!
