This video takes an in-depth look at the various guitar picks used by John Mayer over the years.
Since John Mayer burst onto the scene in the early 2000s, we have seen him use plenty of guitar picks. However, I've done some research and broken John's guitar picks down into three different brands.
The time span in which he used these 3 different guitar picks is sketchy at best. However, he has with 100% certainty, been known to use these 3 guitar picks featured in this video.

I suspect John's relationship with Tomo Fujita was responsible for his use of the Pickboy. Pickboy is Japanese and Tomo has a personal relationship with the owner and promotes them. Pickboy celluloid is good; arguably they and D'Andrea make the world's best. Blue Chips are amazing, and are simply better than everything else that exists. They are in a class by themselves. It's not hype; they really are that good. The material is a space age polymer used in high tech engineering and it performs better in every category than literally everything. They even will last basically forever, because the material doesn't wear. It's magical stuff. Not sure the pink ones are Blue Chips, because the fancy material only comes in brown.
Hi Jason. Thank you so much for this incredibly insightful information. I never thought about it but your guess regarding Tomo Fujita makes so much sense. John, having attended Berklee College of Music and Tomo being a teacher/mentor of John there, it would not surprise me in the slightest that the use of PickBoy picks rubbed off on him. And, your point about Tomo having a relationship with the PickBoy owner kinda seals the deal! I’m also curious to know what picks the pink ones are now. I thought they were Blue Chip as per this picture on the equipboard post: equipboard.com/pros/john-mayer/bluechip-td-35 but please do let me know if you find out what the pink ones are! Thanks so much once again for the awesome info Jason!
@@midpupposIII not the same, I have them both and the BlueChip is just better
Wow man this is such an interesting video I love it.😃👍
Thanks so much! :) 👍
the tortex are actually closer to $0.40 per pick. even cheaper if you buy them in bulk (72 pack)
which one does he use on acoustic guitar?
Thanks!
No problem :)
Where can I buy John Mayer pick?
I'm baffled that there's a CZcams channel dedicated to fucking guitar picks
Yup! There's a niche for everything and everyone :)
bluechip is just so extravagant
I agree! There is simply no need to spend that kind of money on a guitar pick.
@@GuitarPickZone I’m using BHL picks these days and It feels good too. Guessing gravity gold series would be a good choice .
Theyre a rip off no flexibility For suckers
Hey man man do you know what pick Santana used
Hey Ramon. Yes I do! Santana uses and has used the Dunlop Nylon Triangle picks with a 0.30 gauge. He also now uses the V-Picks Freakishly Large Round Pearly Gate.
Thank you so much I am a big Santana fan thanks for responding so fast. Oh and dose he use the v pick screamer
For most of his career Carlos used a large nylon triangle pick, sometimes as thin as 0.30mm, and holds it with his thumb and virtually all his fingers, and who's got a better sound than Carlos?!👍
$35 a pick. LOL.
Yep! Pretty insane right!?
