I hope he’s still alive. This war is especially brutal for Russian soldiers. Many in the West side with Ukraine but this gives us a perspective from a mother who misses her son deeply. It would be so devastating if she lost him just as it would be for anyone to lose a child. I felt her pain at being separated with him, regardless of which side he fights for in this war. I wish her entire family well.
“When people work for money, they are not happy people. When people work not for money, like for animals, life gets interesting and you want to work.” You got that right lady.

It's so important to carry traditions down to the younger generations so that knowledge, experience, is not lost. I know it's a harder life compared to others, but they still do it. It is so inspiring. They KNOW they could be living more comfortably in their apartments, homes, yet money can't buy the tranquility they get being "at one" with nature, right down to their soul, the fulfillment you just don't get sitting in an apartment.

@@katewild3887 I wonder if they have legos, puzzles, card games, etc. All light things to carry. I noticed it was mum going back and forth with the clean snow to prepare breakfast. Her work is never done. She loved the animals and seemed to have a happy disposition, loved her colourful clothing against the white landscape, a very likeable woman.

The women in this documentary look so much like my old grandmother in the far north of Norway, she too had the high cheekbones and the narrow eyes, while being blond and blue-eyed, like I am. I have some Sami blood in me, and this kind of life really make me long for the simple life of the wilderness. Unfortunately I don't know how to live like that, and I have only an empty life in a city, depending on money for my food and home.
If you keep the memory about your Grandma and pass this to your kids that would be great! No everybody has to live like this people.

Everyone has wondered where my high cheek bones came from because no one else in my family has it. I have blonde hair and blue eyes too. I did one of those ancestry DNA tests and it turns out I am 10% Scandinavian! We never knew that! The specific country can’t be determined but I suspect it was Norway since it’s the most easterly country and I am from an island in the North Atlantic. Who knows, maybe that 10% includes some Sami too. My son has the Sami-like eye shape and my husband and I were very surprised to see that so who knows!? I was very happy to learn we have Scandinavian ancestry from my mother’s side….so much so I have studied Swedish for over 2 years now, every day without fail. I suppose I could’ve chosen to learn Norwegian but as I did a little research prior to committing in a language I found out it was probably best to learn Swedish as it’s mutually intelligible with Norwegian and Danish (wow, Danish has such difficult pronunciation!). I have watched a few shows in Norwegian and while the intonation is definitely different, I could understand almost as well as Swedish shows. Anyways, I’m being a bit of a Chatty Cathy so I’ll just say “hej då” and be off. :)

Oh my I love watching how she take care and give food to the reindeer. I would love if I can go there and experience all that. Working with animals can be so rewarding. Each has it's own personality. She is raising her kids well under hard circumstances by our "easy" life standards but she is doing it well. Sorry to see the same technologies invading their lifestyles that is the ruin of so many kids everywhere, but she handles it well. How rewarding to save one like Pepel that wouldn't be alive without her. Those no way to describe those special attachments unless you have raised animals yourself. Prayers with this family always.
I really admire the strength of these people, living in the city of California, I wonder with this soft life if I would survive one day in a chum. I think their way of life is so much more rewarding and normal.

I have never seen snow in my life untill now. I know i can not survive in these extreme cold as i used to living around 35 to 40 degree celcius but somehow this seems so astonishing and relaxing atmosphere to me. Seems i am fedup sweating all day long😂.

I’ve seen several different groups of reindeer herders but the one thing they have in common is a love for their animals. I know a couple people who keep sheep, cows and for them, the animals are just walking dollar signs. One of those men was reported to an animal welfare group because he went several years without shearing his sheep and the average joe felt so much for these poor animals that several complained. He got them sheared but I heard he grumbled about it. He didn’t care that they were hot, weighed down and irritated skin, he simply saw shearing as spending money he wouldn’t recoup. This woman and her family love these animals and all are happier for it. I’m sire she could find a use for stale bread but instead she feeds it to her reindeer. That’s so lovely. Loving and caring for something does bring joy, even if it’s just a plant. It replaces negative thoughts and emotions so how can it not enhance one’s life?
The kindness she showed towards the adopted reindeer gave me so much pleasure.
There life is tough but they are happy with all they have. The little ones are wrapped up warm....
