    The pianist was fire! I'm blown away by the young singers too.

    I think every singer would love to have Kevin Hunt on the piano. They're great!

    I just started listening to Mr. Michael Mayo by chance, because he is performing at The Gusman Center in Miami on February 16, 2024. Because it's been 4 years since this was filmed in Sydney, Australia, I'm expecting he is going to be even better, as I think his voice has seasoned to an even better point. Just the fact that he studied while listening to Musicians I adore (Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, and Freddie Hubbard among many), some have passed, but isn't it wonderful we still have their legacy on recorded media. I play Piano, considered a percussive Instrument, but to me a String Instrument. I also play Guitar and Bass and some Percussion Instruments. I'm really excited to be able to hear Mr. Mayo sing in person.

    Thank you for posting this. I live in the Philippines and I find it hard to get access to this kind of guidance. I learned a lot from this. Hoping to see more

    A wonderful young tutor, Michael Mayo, reminding them of the basics; especially communication with the musician/s. Observe how Mayo is feeling the upbeat and the young gal the downbeat. The difference in 'swing'.

    Could somebody explain to me what Michael meant when he said about seeing harmony horizontally instead of vertically? I understand his idea of looking more ahead, just can't get vertical vs horizontal vision concept.

    • @SolarMumuns
      @SolarMumuns Před rokem

      Vertical is thinking of chords as they appear on the stave (a stack). Horizontal is thinking of part as a separate line as melodies run left to right in a horizontal fashion and thus the focus is on voice leading/counterpoint.
