"Any Attempt to Test Our Will, Would be Decisively Dealt With" - Abacha Coup Speech 1993

On November 17, 1993 General Sani Abacha, the then minister of defense, forced Chief Ernest Shonekan to resign, paving way for nearly five years dictatorship in Nigeria.
Shonekan was the head of the Interim National Government (ING) that was formed by General Ibrahim Babangida as part of his exit strategy.
The coup was not actually a normal type.
According to sources in the ING, the coup was sanctioned by Shonekan, who resigned after Abacha informed him that junior officers who were not happy with his leadership were formulating plans to takeover the government.
The decision which was initially welcomed by many Nigerians turns out to be highly regretted by all.
