An interview with ska band Streetlight Manifesto before their show at the Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale on Februaury 6th 2009. I interviewed the band and edited all the footage.
NOTHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN WE WON'T SAY NOTHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING WE WON'T SAY NOOOTHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN AND THAT'S JUST FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE
Even the banddoesn't acknowledge the "ska" label imposedon them, in fact Tomas usually seems either deeply offended, amused, or annoyed when someone calls them that. It's funny that you mention VoodooGlowskulls, they're just another 3rd wave ska/punk/hardcore hybrid really. How about you actually think about it. What makes them ska? Because they have horns and offbeat guitars sometimes and were in ska bands before? Iguess everymariachi Eastern European calypsoand some jazzswing bands are ska too
I think it's pretty self interpreted. Thomas most likely has his own meanings to songs. 'Somewhere in the Between' for example seems to be about liminality, down to the name and album cover.
As far as this channel goes, this wonderfully interesting, intriguing, beautiful, and enjoyable interviewer Brittany, her big hit was obviously the Daniel Johnston video. No surprise. He's the great Daniel Johnston. In second place is this video with roughly half the views. No offense to this band but they are not roughly half as good as Daniel Johnston. And I just needed to say that. Well, those. I just needed to say those. Those two main things: the interviewer is wonderfully intriguing and this band is not half as good as Daniel Johnston.
First off, that would never happen because RBF is shit. Secondly, it would depend on the song, as a few of their earlier songs (especially on EGN) are pretty blatantly ska influenced moreso than others and even on SiTB there's little trace of it at all. You can dump bands like Less than Jake, RBF, BigD, Mustard Plug into the same category all you want but do you really think Streetlight belong in that type of sound/list of bands?
listen to the music brah it is ska just because it sounds like no other band they still are ska. the voodoo glowskulls dont sound like any blue beat/2tone/3rd wave band but you still see them on the Ska is dead tour
Yeah because they sound a lot like the Blue Beat/2Tone/3rd Wave bands.. oh wait no they don't.. but they do have horns and offbeat guitars! They MUST be a ska band!! /sarcasm

Wow streetlight is so great, saw them in warped tour yesterday, and they are awesome live! This is also a very great interview keep it up!
i was there! the crowd was so full of energy! Streetlight Man-ee-festo! :D
@freakomation they were not saying there is no messages, they are saying that you can take whatever message you want from it.
I love these interviews...we don't hear answers straight from the mouth of TK or any other members very often.
I've gone to see them play every year for the past 3 years and it sucks that i might not be able to go see them this year =(
why is tomas' leg over the interviewers? lmao
that man can do anything he wants

Tomas is a beautiful man.
And here I was thinking that Streetlight was a band with a message for the world. Idk, kinda hard to believe...

Post-Ska I'd say considering 'Somewhere in the Between' and forward.
