Johnny Maestro and Jay Black should both have been inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame years ago. It's a real crime. They'll induct rappers but not the real pioneers of the industry.
Johnny Maestro, sings absolutely perfection in his final show. It's amazing to me how he could hit every note especially the high notes so perfectly, giving this show everything he had. I had tears in my eyes as I watched this video knowing that just 2 months later he passed away from his battle with cancer. Thank you so much for posting his final performance even though it was shaky, I didn't mind at all because I got to see his final show. His voice has been perfectly beautiful right through the very end. He must be singing among the Angels, in heaven. Rest peacefully, dear Johnny Maestro. We miss you dearly...

I believe this is performance is the greatest and an example a man giving his soul to his craft: 'The late Johnny Maestro performs his 1969 hit on the PBS special, "Doo Wop 50" in 1999."
One night my husband and I went to a club in Philadelphia to see Johnny, he was always a favorite of mine, but I'd never met him, later I went outside for some air, I met this man stand there alone and we started to talk a little, after a while he asked me my name I said Dianne and went back inside, the very next song was Little Dianne. the man I was talking to was the great Jonny Maestro. I'll always remember that night!! XO XO XO
He was a musicians musician. So absolutely quality..never went flat, never off key. I went to a few of his concerts..he gives me chills. That group was soooooooo tight..so disciplined..i have all his albums and a signed one i cherish..

Johnny's voice only got better with age. Rest in peace and know that we will never forget you. I am still trying to get him in the Hall of Fame. This should have been done when he was with us on earth.
This was his last consert, he was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2009,When he had finish his last song in his program He wanted to do one more song .the last song for ever.Series host and producer Jon “Bowzer” Bauman recalled. “Johnny turned to me with a look in his eyes I will never forget. Johnny was always quiet, but his eyes said something deep, profound, and unmistakable. ‘One more,’ he said. ‘I need to do one more,’” before returning to the stage for a powerful version of “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
With Tears in my eyes I'm writing this. I just found out Johnny past away while watching a show on PBS. I've always loved hearing Johnny sing over all these years. There are few songs that instantly evoke chills from deep in my soul - "The Worst that Could Happen' always did! In that song when Johnny hit the notes following the Phrase "a woman like you needs a house and her own babies "IF HE loves you more than me....." WOW!! God Bless Your Soul Johnny! Rest in Peace! Thank You for the chills!
It's heartbreaking that he passed away only two months after this show. I hope he wasn't in pain during the show from his cancer. Johnny was one of the greatest voices of all time!

Thank you so very much, I watched this 3 times this evening...God Bless You Mr. Johnny Maestro. Three years in Heaven ..those above truly received the voice of an Angel.
You'd never know from watching this very strong performance, that such a great talent would be taken from us in 2 months. He must have been so sick at this time, but you'd never know it. His music will live in my heart forever. Love you Johnny, and thank you.

I had Johnny and the bridge at a P.A.L. show in Orange County N.Y. in 1996. He invited me to come on stage and sing with him. BEST (out side of family), experience of my life. Sempri Fi and rest in peace
To the 3 people, who dislike the video, while you are entitled to your opinion, I think we should all be thankful for this video that, even though its not the best quality, it highlights what a truly remarkable singer Johnny was despite him being sick and suffering. Would you have rather not had the opportunity to see the video? It took several people and myself to bring this video to you'all over the course of a year.
Thank you Johnny for the many years you blessed us all with your one of a kind voice, truly the best voice ever in the business and you kept it all the way to the end! You were a true inspiration to all of us that ever sang Doo Wop professionally or on the street corner! Your pain is over now and you are gone but will never be forgotten! Our loss is Heavens gain because I know they have a vocal group there and they have a hell of a lead singer. Rest in Peace my friend, you will be missed!
I think the "3 dislikes" posted have more to do with the quality of the video, not anything to do with Johnny Maestro or the other musicians. I think it's a given that Johnny Maestro was such a gifted singer that truly no one could replace his talent, style & grace. Yes, there were and still are a few terrific lead voices such as Anthony Gourdine, "Tiny Tim" Wilson, et al who have managed to conserve their voices, but Johnny Maestro went beyond mere conservaship of his voice by being himself.
I am not sure if I wrote before, but I was there at this show and it was one of his best performances in his life! I had no idea that he was sick at this time! I must have seen Johnny over 100 times in my life especially at Mohegan Sun! He was there many times. I was not aware that he was sick at this time. And the following year when Kenny Vance did the tribute to him at Bowzers next show in January 11, it was the most awesome tribute to Johnny Maestro ever! There was not a dry eye in the entire arena! Especially if you were at this show! Thank you for recording this even though it was not the best quality, but at least someone was able to capture this special event!!! Love you Johnny!!!

I am in my mid 30's now, and grew up in the Town of Islip on Long Island. I can remember back in my childhood being like 8 years old and going with my parents and siblings to many of the free summer concerts that would be put on at Timberline Park, Brookhaven Amphitheater and other parks and just about ever year for many years, Johnny and the BB would perform. From the first time every seeing them in concert, I was an instant fan. Still to this day, Johnny Maestro in my opinion is without a doubt, the best vocalist I have ever heard. wow am totally blown away by this guy, and now can't get enough of his lovely voice! I had never hear of him before,it's just by chance I was watching a video by the "Passions" and came across Johnny Maestro in the following video. I then thought to listen to it, and got hooked on Johnny's video. I am sad to learn he had actually died ,in 2010. R.I.P. am now a fan of yours Johnny. I have shared some of these videos and to all who I shared it with, said was a winner. I am not from the USA either, and come from the UK. but I've enjoyed Johnny's videos. I love his song "16 Candles" don't think anyone can sing that song like him!.
Wow, brings back so many wonderful memories of our B103 Free Summer Concerts we hosted with Johnny and the band. They were always a highlight of the summer. We were lucky that they were fellow Long Islanders and were a big part of our radio station back in the 90s. We threw a big B-103 5th Anniversary Bash for our listeners and Johnny and the Band performed there as well. Thank you for the wonderful memories, for sharing your beautiful voice and for all the great music! RIP
Johnny, was by all means a favorite of mine, your comment brought a tear to my eye, to this old combat wounded Vietnam war veteran, evidently some of us are not as tough and strong as we think we are!
You're watching greatness live. It's amazing that 2 months later, Johnny was gone. But he is one of the greatest of all time. Listen up, "Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame" if I can call you that, You'd better start putting some of these founding members of real rock and roll instead of some of that other crap you call rock. Johnny must be there. And groups like Grand Funk Railroad. Wake up Hall. Your time is getting weak if you don't wake up and see what IS rock and roll. But we're living in a day and age where a man like Obama gets a Nobel Peace Prize! For what? No black and white on that one, just a Peace prize for nothing. So Hall, don't fall into a hole like the Nobel committee did. Don't drop the ball anymore.
Why do you people who call themselves the rock and roll Hall of Fame, always give these "awards" when the artist is half dead?? Now, alittle off focus, what about Led Zeppelin, the greatest hard rock group ever and you gave it to these rock God's when their also almost dead. I really get annoyed with you commercialized clowns. Hang your heads. You should be ashamed of yourselves. And Mr. Maestro, you never needed them anyway, we already knew you were the BEST. Resting in Paradise. Goodnight🥀
I had the privilege of working on several NY area oldies shows that featured John and his group. He was a real professional with a super voice. Levon Helm, whom passed away recently said it best..."I am not in this (music) for my health". Too many oldies singers suffered throat cancer. Another acquaintance, Larry Chance also had a bout with throat cancer. Thank God he is now fine. Our lead singer also had similar. God bless John.
I was there at this concert with My Best friend who is now also gone Little Joe cook we talked for a while after this performance with Johnny what an awesome guy they will be dearly missed.

Johnny Maestro's group, The Brooklyn Bridge, has been keeping his music alive for nearly nine years, as Johnny wished. Many singers and groups have sung Johnny's songs as a tribute to him.

HEARING you open up that amazing rock n roll extravaganza @ Madison Square Garden in 1978 with 16 CANDLES, well, what a voice on you, Johnny. Now you sing with the other Angels. A rare voice. A fabulous talent. YOU are missed........by so many.....and specially by me!
Johnny was such a huge talent. He will be sorely missed.Thankyou for posting this.

wow am totally blown away by this guy, and now can't get enough of his lovely voice!
RIP
RIP Johnny! Thanks for the music!
Thankyou Walter for your efforts. I have played this upload many times. I believe that Johnny sang this song better than any other.
Beautiful musical performance Johnny Maestro, too bad it was your last show. R.I.P. Johnny Maestro.

Michael Friedman is
One of the best rock and roll groups ever!
Johnny, was by all means a favorite of mine, your comment brought a tear to my eye, to this old combat wounded Vietnam war veteran, evidently some of us are not as tough and strong as we think we are!

Who would have thought that 2 months later, dear Johnny would pass away. What a voice. Nobody like him.
YOU HAVE A LOT OF YOUNG KIDS PICKING WHO TO PUT IN AND THEY DON'T KNOW A DAME THING ABOUT MUSIC

Johnny's name has come before the R&RHOF Foundation's nominating committee in New York, but has never received enough votes to make the final ballot.
Goodnight🥀
@@TopazDupree That's such a CRYING SHAME. Who are the jerks that oversee these "ballots" anyway.
Johnny u will never be forgotten a fantastic voice we all love u RIP

I agree!!! Johnny needs to be in the Hall of Fame!!! What's wrong with those people!?!
Rest In Peace Herb Reed and Johnny Maestro. Thank you for the music!

Johnny Maestro's group, The Brooklyn Bridge, has been keeping his music alive for nearly nine years, as Johnny wished. Many singers and groups have sung Johnny's songs as a tribute to him.
