Johnny Maestro Tribute

- In light of the recent death of the late, great Johnny Maestro, I wanted to step away from my usual interests and make a video tribute to a musician who has been dubbed one of the greatest voices of our time.
Johnny Maestro began his career with The Crests in the 1950s, the first interracial doo wop group, and despite the ignorance around them, the group had many big songs. In 1968, Maestro combined two groups and formed the 11 member Brooklyn Bridge. Johnny's career spanned 5 decades and included great hits like "Worst That Could Happen," "Blessed is The Rain" and "16 Candles."
I am dedicating this tribute to my father (Roy B. of Brooklyn. NY) - the #1 Johnny Maestro fan - and all of Mr. Maestro's fans around the world. I hope this video brings back great memories for everyone and can serve as a way to honor the legendary Johnny Maestro, 1939-2010.
The Crests - 16 Candles (1958)
The Crests - Step By Step (1960)
Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge - Worst That Could Happen (1968)
Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge - Blessed is the Rain (1968)
Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge - You'll Never Walk Alone (1969)
"I'd give my right arm to have a voice like Johnny!" - Dad
Love you,
Lisa
Shame on the "Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame" for not having Johnny Maestro inducted. Most of todays so called singers couldn"t carry his migrophone.R.I.P. Johnny.God has a very talented man.
100 percent agreement
Amen to that...I worked with him in past years...he could be tough, even rude and a bit arrogant, but all in all he had a heart of gold and and a wealth of talent...Sleep well, my friend and dwell in heaven forever....
I agree 💯
One of my all time favorites
So true…Johnny was a great singer and performer- RIP.
THIS MAN SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE HALL OF FAME BEFOR PROBABLY 90% OF THE BAFOONS THEY HAVE IN THEIR NOW...
RIP, Johnny is singing with the Angels in Heaven!! He should be Inducted in the Rock n roll hall of Fame in Cleveland, Oh!! You all can agree on this!! One of a kind Voice, truly missed!!!
Johnny must be inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame.... Greatest Ever❤️
What in the hell is wrong with those that vote for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. If anyone belongs in The Hall it’s this man.
One of the great vocalist of all times. It a travesty of justice that he is not in the fame!
Wowsers, I did not know that.
Maybe they don't deserve him or other true vocalists?
THE GREATEST VOICE IN MUSIC EVER........
WAKE UP ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF SHAME......STOP THE DAMN POLITICS...
PUT JOHNNY AND THE GUYS WHERE THEY RIGHTFULLY BELONG.......
I'LL SECOND THAT,
U. R. So. Rite. He. Just. Great
Outstanding! The R&R Hall should be Ashamed! RIP Johnny!
NOBODY, but NOBODY has his CLASS and style and was just SOOOOOOOOO GOOD for So Long. His voice never left him nor will it leave me.
They all had class and style. Thats why to this day that era of music is the greatest.
Johnny has that voice I never grow tired of listening to.
No one sings like Johnny Miss Him RIP 🙏
He has to be one of the best tenors on this planet, even up to his passing his voice still the richness and intensity as when he first started. What a tremendous loss for the music industry, he was much underrated but those who could sing will appreciate his style of music, "KUDOS"
It's a damn disgrace that Johnny isn't in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame by now!
A voice like no other. R.I.P. Johnny
He Still Touches Our Hearts. R.I.P. Beautiful Man...
Its hard to believe Johnnys gone. He will truly be missed. Never got the respect he deserved. Vote him into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Now!!!
Why Johmmy is not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is one of the great mysteries of the Rock & Roll era!
You are right.get him in people.he was great
And look at the ones who are?
Also Dionne Warwick was nominated this year but did not get inducted. Meanwhile Foo Fighters and The GOGO's made it. I was happy Tina Turner made it though
Needs addressed!
Johnny was one of the greatest lead
Singers of all time.lt is a disgrace to not have johnny in the hall of fame.

What a voice, one of the Greatest Ever.
I performed many shows with Johnny and the Bridge, and he truly was a pure singer and ONE of the Best. It was an honor for ROCK 'N RHYTHM to share the Stage with such a Great Talent.
RIP. He had such a rich voice; few could sing like him or can sing like him now. I loved 💖💖 his music at the age of 11 and still do at 76. He should definitely be in the Hall of Fame!
Wonderful songs sung by the greatest voice ever.
I love this music. When I'm hurting inside it helps me with it music soothes the soul.
Johnny died on my Birthday last year and I just found out about it. I send my sympathy to his family. He had one of the purest voices I've ever heard. Saw him about 20 years ago in NJ and met him. Tried to take his picture with my husband but I had no film in the camera. Johnny found this funny. I'm glad I made him smile as he did me with his beautiful voice. I told him his voice was just as strong as it was when he first started and he told me he practiced every day. What a talent.
If not the best ..... then one of the best voices EVER ! Decent guy too ...... WE MISS YOU !
Three of the greatest singing voices and musical timing in all of Rock n'Roll were shared by Johnny Maestro, Jimmy Beaumont and James Sheppard. Not one of these three greats happens to be in the R n'R Hall of Fame, which makes me wonder what purpose it really serves, if any.
zoosk
STILL love this in 2019! WHAT A VOICE! BEST MUSIC GENRE OF A LIFETIME!
Great tribute. Johnny personified class and talent. There will never be another like him
Brilliant great voice can't stop listening

Sixteen Candles....and I was 16!
Step by Step was such a hot tune on radio and great to dance to.
Johnny had such a fantastic pitch perfect voice. Gorgeous to listen to. We need this music to be read released today....OMG..." Girl you're getting married...but it's the worst that could happen to me" wow.... I loved his songs so much. And the backup singers had such harmony . He sang his songs right up until the end. Sing on Johnny...you'll never walk alone as long as we have your footprint on vinyl. ⚘🎶⭐🎶⚘
One of the best groups and Johnny was the best
What a tribute to one of the greatest singers to ever grace this earth. He will be missed. Thank you. RIP Johnny
We would get there early to get good seats, sing to every song, drink a lot of booze & just have a great time. We followed him for years. Last saw him at the Surf Club in Ortley Beach not too long before he passed. Listening to his songs take me back to simpler times. My 3 children became fans also. Though they were not around in his early years they still loved him and his music.
There will never be another voice like yours Johnny, however your music lives on and many will come to sing your hits in your honor. I'm sure all those that sing yor tunes echo my sentiments and humbly sing on in your memory and honor.
Rip JOHNNY, God took you way to soon Thank You so Much ....
Ttoday (March 24th) is a year since we had lost our wonder Johnny Maestro.

Fantastic.....I have tears in my eyes. Great job for a great talent. We will miss him.
Thank you for this terrific tribute to one of the greatest voices of all time. I wish God's gift to Johnny was not taken from us so soon, but I'm thankful for all the music Johnny left us to enjoy. Whenever I see a rainbow, I think it's a sign that Johnny's voice is cascading through the Heavens. RIP Sir.
There's no reason why he's not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I think all of his fans should start a petition to them and get his name in there where it belongs. I'd be proud to sign it !

Outstanding talent. Have been seeing him at the Jersey Shore for 40 years. Saw him the year before he died. My wife and I are deeply saddened by his passing. My wife will never forget the time she cornered him in the dressing room at the Bamboo Bar in Seaside Heights and had him and the BB sign the poster she took off the wall outside the bar.His music will be his legacy
so great why the hell is he not in the hall of fame !!!!!!!!
This is a lovely tribute to Johnny Maestro. In my view he had the best voice in the Rock and Roll era. Thanks you for posting this
I didn’t realize he wasn’t in the Hall of Fame. He has the strongest tenor voice than of all other singers singing tenor. That includes Frankie Vallie of the Four Seasons.
Should be in the Hall of Fame!!
I thought I was the #1 fan, oh well, I'm close, saw Johnny in the Bronx in 67, l was in high school.saw him a couple of times early 80's, he never lost his touch,l cried when he died, I'm 70 now and still say he's the best
Such a beautiful, smooth, velvety voice. One that will never be replicated. Grateful in Chicago.
I have seen Johhny many times in person. He is and was one of the best artist of song. I am a big fan of Dop Woop and Johnnie was always a big part of it. I am sad that I will no longer be able to see him perform again. I remember dancing with my daughter to his 16 Candles. I will always listen to and remember him.Bless you and your family Johhnny.
Mike Prisament here - when I was working with Ronnie I. Of Clifton Records, Clifton, N.J. & U.G.H.A. we had Johnny at one of our shows in my old high school De Witt Clinton in The Bronx. Great guy, great group, great memories.
The best! What a voice! Amazing!!! Great music!
In 1969 & 1970, I was first a roadie, then road manager for the BB. I just dug out an old scrapbook from a long bus tour and our trip to LA where they cut a song for a movie called "The Grasshopper" @ the old Sam Goldwin studios. We also played Disneyland and I think I have a pic of either Artie or Joe at the Universal Studios tour. I think we stopped on the way to play New Year's Eve in Houston. There were 5 or 6 stages and I'm pretty sure one stage was Fats Domino. I do have a pic of Artie & me that night. Then thereafter playing Vegas opening for Carol Channing. The roadies were a revolving door, and I was passed the briefcase when Danny tired of the road. But the greatest moment of all was one night on the bus when Ritchie got out an acoustic guitar and Johnny, Freddie, Les, and Mike brought the 60's back to life! I will always cherish those times.
Sadly missed by millions.rest in peace johnny

One of the premier voices in music. He's up there with so many other wonderful voices now, in the great choir. His leaving us was The Worst That Could Happen. But we were blessed that he was here.
The king of doo wop hands down.

Philip Buckley ok LOL
I never failed to see Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge when they were in south Florida. Even saw the droup at a private function just a few years ago. What a great voice and stage presence he had. Thank God I have many of his recordings which I often listen to. He will be missed. Too bad he was never induted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It is a great oversight and should be rectified posthumously.
I grew up listening to this music I did not know anything about Johnny maestro until I listened to this song the other day and started looking up members of the band just out of curiosity. Since then I have been obsessed with knowing more about him and listening to all of his songs. I regret that I never saw him in concert. I agree that it is shameful that so many inferior singers are in the hall of fame and he is not.
I had the pleasure of seeing him in Peekskill Ny just a few months before his passing. I was glad I went.
❤❤❤ What a beautiful voice ❤❤❤
What a tribute. Thank you for posting. Johnny is missed.
