- Roof leaking into back porch area just above transition. These leaks typically occur because of bad flashing and no flashing at the transition. This particular roof leak was actually because of bad nail placement too close to or in the keyway.

Looks like a perfectly acceptable temporary repair considering the circumstances. Stop the water....that's the short term goal.
New subscriber. Just learned that I'm near you, I'm in Noblesville. Love your channel, I'm not a roofer, but I enjoy seeing someone take pride in their craft.
Great tip that I learned (the hard way) a cotton towel on a wet, mildew covered, slippery deck or ground surface will not slide and the rubber feet of the ladder will have great traction.
Thanks for that. 👍
@@huejanus5505 You're welcome! I learned this AFTER taking a bad spill on a two story gutter cleaning job. Got busted up really badly.
Regarding ladder safety on a wet plank deck surface- If you jam a screwdriver between two deck boards, preferably two places, spaced to the width of your ladder feet, you can pull your ladder against them, providing very secure footings for the ladder feet. I figured this one out after taking a fall, along with my ladder, onto a deck. No significant injury, but ugly bruising to my arms, chest and ego.
Thanks man. I have a small leak in one of my bedrooms from an area just kind of right in the middle of the roof, I climbed up in the attic and found the general area it's coming in at, and went up on the roof in that area and can't see a damn thing wrong, but I'm thinking it's probably a nail under one of those keyways, I might have to climb back up there. Luckily it's a very minor thing, the drywall just gets slightly wet if it's really coming down but as you know it's just going to get worse and worse....
Can you give us an update on whether or not the temporary fix actually stopped their leak? Just curious to know.
This repair is definitely educational but I would have just broken a few upper seals and installed a tarp to such a small area. Clean, quick and guaranteed to holder better than solar seal or any tubes roofing application. Just my thoughts. Respect what you do and I get a lot out of you videos. Always looking forward to the next post!
Called a Bibb flashing. The same thing that is supposed to be used for slate repairs. Unfortunately laminated dimensional shingles do not have any guide for nail placement and this is a common problem after 5 or more years.
My flip house has sheathing that's rotted away to nothing for the first 2 feet or so from the wall. I just have a bucket there to catch the water for the time being and normally it's just a small drip but we had torrential rain the other day and the bucket had overflowed and soaked the subfloor I had just put down within the last month lol
Have you ever tried Master seal Np-1?
Have you tried Through the Roof caulk?
You know a real worker when you see 1, actually I never saw a roofer go up in rainy weather at lest not on CZcams 👍🏾
thats Geocel 4500 caulking.. its so strong you can bond metal and wood together and hard to take off more of a hybrid seals and glues... strong stuff ..
Taking a flat bar and pulling the roofing tack and checking to see if the shank has rust on it is a tell tale sign ,,,if the shanks is clear of rust ..reseal the shingle ..move on to the next one ..
Why did you seal the areas you did?
Wherever you live. I don't want a roof done from the crews around there
Now I see a few spots where they put nails threw the top of the shingle, is that something to chaulk or just remove the nails and replace the shingle? thanks for you videos
It's best to remove the shingle and replace it. But chances are whatever roofer did that probably did that to the entire section. In that case once they start to fail it's best to just replace the roof.
I'm seriously trying to figure out why the exposed nails were not an issue?
Are those exposed nails on the roof that I see.? They should’ve at least be covered with some cauking, no ?
Why didn’t you just find the rusty nails, and replace, fix that?
What product are you using, didn’t see it posted in the description.
Geocel 4500 Black. Great product
thats a $400 repair for some schmucks
That looks like a 1200 dollar temp fix , yah ?
Possibly, I never did hear back from them. I'm guessing the caulking temporarily stopped the leak.
My kind of repair 600 bill 🤔
how much u charge for this kind of quick fix?
I didn't charge for that at all. I would never consider that a fix. It was the family of someone I knew so I explained to them what was going on with it. I only did that to help stop the leak, until a more permanent fix could be done.
@@GrandRoofingInc i wwas curious how much would you value ur time and resources however pitifiul they might have been.
lol its a temporary repair.
As a roofer this made me cringe the hole time. Just Noooo
