  • Unboxing the Nokia 5310 (2020), with a full tour of this XpressMusic feature phone update including a review of the specs and flick around the Series 30 Plus OS. You can grab yourself a Nokia 5310 right now in the UK for £25 using the £10 off code 'SNAKEDAY' over on Nokia.com.
This feature phone definitely comes with a healthy dose of nostalgia, just like the re-released 3310 and 8110. You can get all those classic ringtones and of course games like Snake on the go, just like the original.
The Nokia 5310 also offers a dual speaker setup so you can blast your tunes at top volume on public transport. Just like the good old days.
For more hot Nokia action, check out my unboxing/review videos on those other re-imagined classics, plus its best Android handsets from 2020 like the 5.3 and 1.3.

Had one 5310 XpressMusic in 2007, used it for almost 5 years... Now retired in a cozy drawer, turn it on and still has battery.
Seriously the audio and the headsets in this device back then were great, the bass was incredible, and all in all the MP3 experience was a joy ... I even put Tetris on it and played. This and the Motorola Razr were the best cellphones I ever had.

I never really leave comments on videos, but I feel compelled to say thank you.
I came across your channel whilst looking for reviews about the many different iterations of Motorola phones that were flying around. As far as I could tell you were the only reviewer that had a professional, authentic and no-nonsense approach to your reviews. Not to mention nobody is covering the budget segment of smartphones regularly, so I am of the opinion you are doing a great service for the average person who just wants to spend a bit less cash.
Please keep doing what you're doing. There are probably many people like me who lurk and rarely comment so I like to think I speak on behalf of all of them when I say cheers!

  • @stevejones1972
    @stevejones1972 Před 3 lety +8

My mother recently bought this from good old Argos, she hates smartphones and wanted something basic. There is one major design flaw with it - the volume buttons on the side of the handset that control the volume of the music, also control the ringer volume, and they dont lock when using the keyguard lock, so mother keeps knocking them in her handbag and turning down the volume of the ringer, so she will keep missing calls as the ringer will be turned down or off by mistake. Absolutely stupid to have these + - controls to control the ringer volume as its too easy to inadvertently knock them while in your pocket or bag, and not realise you have turned off the ringer. I tell her now to keep checking the phone every time she has it out to ensure she keeps the ringer volume turned up.
The camera is not very good either and wont take many pics before the ridiculously small internal memory is full - about 25 pics is all it will hold before you need to buy a micro SD card to store media on. A real disappointment to be honest due to that ringer setting being so easily altered, I mean, what kind of idiot thought it would be a good idea to do it like this?

The original is much much thinner than this; so yes I totally agree with you.
Got my 5310 charging at present after being reminded I had one... It's white with blue sides, needs a tiny 1mm jack to charge (although it has a micro-USB connector too - things don't change!) and can take up to a 32GB micro SD card ... which makes me wonder if Nokia really have improved the new one much.
Oh, and the original had Snake III - that "3D" version of Snake... enough said.

Also the "Snakes" isn't on the "conventional" smartphone, it's shipped in a couple of their powerhouse N model, as long as they run S60, they can run it, and man that one I had a lot of fun with, I think I played it first on N-Gage, the device that game was designed to run in.
N-Gage was basically my first experience at playing portable console, Splinter Cell, The Sims, Worms, Snakes. spent hours of my childhood with those, it was a device way ahead of its time.

Too bad Nokia-HMDG has not taken advantage of this great opportunity to get more sales with the relaunch of this historic model, since having this new version today would be pretty much the same, perhaps less meaningful, to having a 5310 Xpress Music from 2007, almost it does not feature an ostensible improvement for nowadays standards. I do not understand why did not they implement KaiOS operating system in it, 4G technology, Wifi, Google apps scynchronization, WhatsApp and hotspot; there are cheaper and more basic equipment that do have all those specifications, if so, even with a higher price, I would buy it right away. It would be awesome using those red playback keys and stereo dual speakers to play CZcams and the different online radio and TV apps, podcasts available on the KaiOS store.

If only a manufacturer would produce a smart phone with a user replaceable battery, and a metal back,
One reason I still have my LG v20.

I had a nokia 5320 once upon a time and the looks and shape of this thing is more like a 5320 than a 5310. Anyway its nice of nokia to bring it back.

With what I've heard about Apple possibly ditching the charging port for the iPhone 13, I might pick a Nokia KaiOS phone as my next handset instead!
Hopefully, Nokia will announce a new KaiOS phone (preferably a new Tough model) soon, preferably with:
    DAB+ tuner
Support for micro SD cards up to 64GB
