Basement Bitcoin Mining in 2011 in Canada

- I recently found this old footage from 2011 when I was setting up my Bitcoin mine with my buddy Johnny...Bitcoin was around $5 in April/May 2011 when we first heard about it.
By the time we got the mining going efficiently, the price had doubled to $10.
I thought we missed the boat ... BTC went to $30 that summer, I was mining 2 BTC a day at one point.
Since I was using so much power, I ended up getting bumped up to a higher tier power rate. When the Bitcoin price eventually crashed to $2 in the fall, I was mining much less than I was earning from the miners.
I ended up selling the video cards and recouping all the money I put into it, and saving half the Bitcoin.
I kept enough Bitcoin to keep me interested, but obviously I wish I never sold a single Bitcoin back then.
Hilarious to think I was late to the party back then...and to be honest I still think we're early with BTC at $34,000.
I ended up losing most of my Bitcoin in MtGox in 2014, so I started mining again in 2014 - didn't do any videos that time. - Věda a technologie
Brad this is one for the history books. Imagine your grandchildren seeing this as the world financial system officially switches to bitcoin.
Thanks for the video. Takes me back to mining 10 year's ago and feeling so excited just because me and my friends were doing the same thing you guys were doing.
I stopped early because my dad kicked off about the electric bills and was wondering why it was so high:P
Wow, this is a great video ! The video card mining is amazing stuff.
$5 a BTC seems like a dream now days.
Cheers from the Canadian Bitcoiners!
Feels like xenblocks, but less physical. Thanks for recording these moments in time.
I love this. What were you, 24 then? I was 13 in 2011 and on my way to high school. I spent a lot of time outside and not on the internet. I had no chance at bitcoin in the early days. Now I'm 24 and I go all in on crytpo because I spend a lot more time on the internet, and I know that we're still early :))
Also, the first time I heard about bitcoin was 2016. A girl on tumblr casually told me, "I'm mining bitcoin". I looked at the price ($700+ at the time), did no real research, but I did make a coinbase haha.
Now, all I do is buy crypto. Not bitcoin though, I only mine for that.
I mined 57 BTC back in 2010-2011. Sold all of them for about $25. Most idiotic decision in my life.
can you explain what hardware do you used and 1 btc mined how many hours?
@@mm-wm6uh If I remember correctly, it was Radeon 4870x2, I mined on both cores. Then Radeon 5870. No rig, just single PC configured to mine when idle. It took about 2 or 3 days to mine 1BTC.
Wow
@@mm-wm6uhit's a lot more difficult to mine bitcoin nowadays and costs thousands just in electricity!
Fucking legend. Everyone must have thought you were nuts.
