    The nft comparison with art and reprints isn't really analogous though:
    For physical art, the replicas aren't hand painted in oil paints and are instead printed in ink on masss and resold at a tiny cost due to the loss of rarity.
    Nft's are digital images where the copies are indistinguishable from the original. The only distinction is you have that image on the etherum block chain ( not sure if you can mint your own copies though). Owning an NFT also does not mean you own the image rights to that art/ design which i think some people assume.

    To me NFT's dont make sense because at least with real physical art, I feel like it takes more actual skill and on top of that, it can be used as home decor to add personality or make a certain real life space look nicer. Whereas NFT's its stuck on your phone and realistically you only truly own a link to a picture because people can screen shot and have a truly 100% identical picture. Real physical art cannot be copied, at least that easily. Physical art made by hand (painting drawing etc) is hard to copy without very apparent flaws.

      @Thankyou99999 Před 2 lety +9

      Okay first of all just cause they're digital does not mean they're easy. You should try making actual good digital art. You'll see it requires a lot of skill.
      A huge chunk of the value of NFTs come from the ability to verify the originals. When they mint or what normal people call "upload" they are uploaded with data verifiable on the blockchain. Even if you upload tens or thousands of the same image, people can easily look up the metadata of your NFT and identify that it's not the original. btw physical art can be copied.
      Why are NFTs expensive? easy. cause people like to flex. a bag does not cost a lot but a gucci bag is worth a few months salary in some country.
      A lot of things don't make sense but just cause you think that way doesn't mean the same for others. Money follows people. as long as there's demand people would continue buying.

But of course, this is tax evasion and not money laundering. So where does crypto come in? Well first off crypto is decentralized (or centralized but that defeats the whole point of its existence) and damn near impossible to track. Oh, and when you create an NFT you can make it any price you want. No auction. No appraisal. No witnesses. No nothing. You can one man clean your money. Its almost too easy. Of course to piece this together you need not to be so naive. Yes NFT’s have a future, because it allows for making pretty much anything unique. But the current jpegs selling for 1-500 million dollars are not for art appreciation. Hell, even the Mona Lisa is appraised near the same price of these 5 minute jpegs.
      Are NFT’s revolutionary?
      Maybe.
      Are these JPEG prices natural?
      No.

    JJ's owning the Mona Lisa with a pic analogy is really interesting. If NFTs are so valuable, the Louvre should just make a certified digital rendition of the Mona Lisa and start an online gallery. People fly all over the world to see the real thing but how many would pay a tenner to watch it's 'million dollar' NFT version?

    • @cyanscrewdriver2092
      @cyanscrewdriver2092 Před 2 lety +5

      Exactly, and the digital version will stay the same throughout all devices when bought or screenshotted, whereas the photograph/printed version of the Mona Lisa will never be the same as seeing the real oil painting with your own eyes

    • @talldado449
      @talldado449 Před 2 lety +1

      That's not the point. It's that screenshotting NFTs is like printing an artwork. In the end you'll just have a fake version you won't be able to sell. If you just want it for the art, go for it and screenshot or print every artwork. But if you wanna make money, that screenshot ain't nothing but taking up ur phone's storage.
      And tbh, NFTs are less about art and more about supply and demand. There's many lit and bad NFTs, but in the end I won't buy the lit one if there's no demand and will buy the bad one if there is demand.

    • @SlashyClapton
      @SlashyClapton Před 2 lety +1

      @@talldado449 That's just brokering. And that's what makes these million dollar NFTs a joke. Because people believe their value would only increase in the future. But the problem is it's being valued by brokers like you whose only intention is to sell as quickly as possible. A Monet in a private collection only becomes rarer after being out of the public eye for few years. Museums would pay a lot for it to exhibit it. There is no intrinsic value to NFTs, just piled-on broker fees. Even a bling guy wouldn't showcase NFT art on a digital display.

      @talldado449 Před 2 lety +1

      @@SlashyClapton Yeah, most of the million dollar NFTs are pointless tbh. But there's many NFTs with utility now.
      NFTs is just buying (mostly) Ethereum, with a picture as bonus and being able to spot trade that Ethereum with the art often deciding the demand.
      People in the NFT space always say art is secondary, if the demand is there go try to flip it. It all sounded dumb to me at first, but if it brings me money I don't care.

    The NFT market will decline when most people realise that they don't need to purchase an NFT to have it. Yes, the whole screenshot argument has become an overused joke at this point but its point somehow still stands. Physical art is a tangible piece that gains value because of its actual presence and history behind it. We know about all the expensive paintings mainly because there's history attached to them that might not even be related directly to the art itself. But there are so many paintings in the market that are sold at a regular price that we don't hear about. NFTs on the other hand are all valued absurdly with little to no benefits. Its bought by the super rich who can use it to build connections and will exit out after the whole wave has died out.

    NFTs probably wouldn't be such a big issue if
    1. They weren't mostly ran through Ethereum, which is the most energy-costly cryptocurrency available (I believe it uses more power than the average American household in a year? Correct me if I'm wrong, but, regardless. Dogecoin can run on some triple-A batteries for crying out loud.)
    2. There was actual art involved. Like, seriously, there's nothing appealing about an ugly-looking monkey in a style that can only be described as a 12 year-old drawing in the Gorillaz style from memory.
    3. Cryptobros like JJ weren't so damn annoying
    and 4. People understood the freedoms of the internet. Yes, if you post your NFT in a public space where people can, in-fact, right-click > save as, then yes, people have every right in the world to right-click > save as and you can't complain because it was your own irresponsibility. Imagine getting upset about your house being robbed when you leave the keys in the open on the doorstep with a CZcams thumbnail-esque arrow on a sign pointed at them saying "Free keys!"

    jjs take about taking a picture of the mona lisa and owning it makes no sense. The mona lisa is a physical object and NFTs are virtual. If i were to screenshot your NFT that u own, i get all the benefits of having the image as you do. only thing i cant do is sell it.

    • @vaibhavkumarYT
      @vaibhavkumarYT Před 2 lety +13

      I agree. What's the benefit of owning a wierd ass JPEG file spending thousands and millions on it. Its just for monetary gain cuz the art itself is trash.

    • @christianhoy8447
      @christianhoy8447 Před 2 lety +2

      But you dont get the benifits, there are many nfts that you have to own that give you access to games or exclusive discords and giveaways so just screenshotting it wont give you those benifits

      People don't buy NFTs to use them. It's an asset, a virtual one. So the only real benefit you get from them is that you can sell for a higher amount. And you can't, because yours isn't an original. So you lose the only one benefit that they have. Therefore screenshoting it does nothing other than if you wanna use the actual art itself
