@@maxieFanoD Jumping directly in really helps with algorithm recommendation and watch time because people are more likely to watch a video with a 5 sec. intro than a minute long one. Cutting off the video quick helps viewer retention because you don't know it's about to end. I understand why they do it, but it just feels less human in a way.
World War I was basically inevitable. There was a ridiculous amount of tension built up over decades, and the assassination was just the spark that set it off. Otto von Bismarck famously said, in 1888, that "One day the great European War will come out of some damned foolish thing in the Balkans" and basically hit the nail on the head.
On a less related note, he also told the German Kaiser that Germany was basically doomed once it lost all the officers that bismarck had trained. He said that Germanys downfall would come 20 years after his death. He died in July of 1898, and Germany surrenders WW1 in November of 1918.
He's a really interesting figure. Extra history did a series on him that you should definitely check out

Breaking a banned weapon treaty would lead a country to be absolutely destroyed by all the other military mights that have agree to sanction said treaty. That’s why even though war is life or death they still have to follow it in order to avoid being completely overwhelmed. They’d be withdrawn from all current treaty’s, meaning no more protection.
Yh any country trying to *win* would want allies, just like a sponsorship. If u break the globe rules u will lose there support.
Would also mean that after the war, if you survived, you'd be punished for war crimes

Really that's only for the small nations though. If say the US violated a war treaty, no country would want to go against them as they invest more into their military than almost every other country combined. Russia and China are also examples, where if they were to violate the treaty they would likely already be at war with the other countries anyways so who cares.

WW1 was (in short terms) basically, a mess. You have the Triple Entente (Britain, France and Russia) and then you have the Dual Alliance between Germany and Austria-Hungary. Italy was on Germans side but then gave up and helped the British. Austria-Hungary wanted and took Bosnia, Serbia was angry, asked Russia for help and they did help until they didn't, killed the Austro-Hungarian heir to the throne. Stuff went down. Then you have the three battles between Britain and Germany. Battle of Verdun, Battle of the Somme and the Battle of Passchendaele. Soldiers died because of the stupid generals which decided to not go to the battles and made pathetic plans. More stuff went down. Many countries got involved and by 1914 WW1 begun. On the first Christmas was the truce and then they went back to fighting till 1918 because bombs went off. The short version. Also missing out the fact that America got involved and the conferences and other stuff too.
Basically, alliances made the war bigger and bigger.
Just had a paper about WW1, really interesting actually even though I didn't really know much about it. Didnt know there were multiple underlying consequences of the war as well so got really surprised when I saw the assassination wasn't the only reason for war

The treaty of Versailles at the end of WW1 literally paved the way for WW2.France was the country that wanted Germany to have the harshest punishment.The treaty of Versaille said that Germany had to give the allies like 50 percent of their resources meaning Germany nearly went bankrupt

How WW1 started for yall:
A Bosnian assassinated a Austro-Hungarian with the help of a Serbian group.
The Austro-Hungarians reacted by invading Serbia since they had ordered the assassination.
The Serbians were friends with the Russians who stepped in to help Serbia and attacked Austria-Hungary
The Germans were friends with the Austro-Hungarians and stepped in to help their friends by attacking Russia.
The Germans also knew that France was friends with Russia and so would come to help them so they pre-emptively attacked France as well knowing they would join Russia.
To get to France, Germany needed to go through a very tough defensive line with a large French army guarding it so they decided to go around by invading Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Belgium was friends with Britain so Britain joined the Serbian, French, Russian, Belgian, Dutch and Luxembourgian side against Germany and Austria-Hungary and also called all it's colonies in to help such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa and the British Raj (India and Pakistan).
Then the Ottomans (Turkey) was like Yolo we hate Serbia we'll join Germany so they did.
Then America was like yo we like Britain and peace so we'll join them.
The Netherlands never fought in the first world war, only Belgium and i think luxembourg. However in the 2nd world war, the Germans invaded the netherlands
Germany also had a bad habit of sinking ships with U-boat patrols, sunk American transport boats (Lusitania) and realised they’d fucked up. so basically, what happened when it came to ww1 was:
Germany was fighting France because France declared war on Germany to help Russia because Russia was fighting Austria and Germany was helping Austria fight Serbia because someone in Serbia shot Franz Ferdinand and Britain and France had a "kind of alliance" so obviously Britain ignored the alliance and stayed out of the war but then Germany was killing Belgium to get to France and Britain cares about Belgium more than France so Britain declared war on Germany and then Germany used gas on Britain so Britain invented the tank and the rest is quite literally, history.

My partner is in the army and they still have to have gas masks with their kit and training for it as they’re are places that still use dangerous gasses. One of the reasons they can’t grow beards (the gas mask has to be fitted exactly round your face so you get no outside air

World War one was instigated by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, but the reason such a small event caused an entire world war was because simply, there had not been a war in a long time. Countries had trained personnel, equipment, generals wanting action, etc. and all that was building up tension for countries just wanting war. Back then war was thought of as "everyone lines up and takes turns firing". But that was not the case for WW1.
My great uncle was a US soldier in Vietnam and the Army tested Mustard Gas on him. He ended up with throat cancer and has to use one of those smoke box things to speak now. Fucked up stuff.

Flamethrowers aren't actually banned, there's just not much of a reason to use them anymore. Flamethrowers are the best option you've got for clearing out densely packed, heavily fortified locations with narrow passageways, which made them perfect for use in trench warfare, but on modern battlefields you're very rarely in that situation, and if you are, a shotgun does you good enough and it's much easier to carry.
