  • Why buy fancy cloth napkins when you can make your own? We're making simple napkins with easy mitered corners as part of the Learn to Sew in 2020 series. Napkins are a great beginner sewing project because they only require one square of fabric and stitching straight lines.
    To make four 18.5 inch finished napkins, you'll need just shy of 1.5 yards of (44 inch wide) quilting cotton. If you want to make larger sizes, significantly more yardage is required as you'll only be able to fit one napkin on the width of fabric (WOF).
    Make sure to pre-wash your fabric! Fabric recommendation: cotton or linen (woven)

    I like how this was two lessons in one with both the napkins and how to do the corners. I also liked how you explained why you were doing the things you were doing, such as telling us the needle position and what effect each position had on the project. Thank you!

    I've seen mitered corner tutorials in the past, and they were nowhere near this simple and easy. Thank you so much for this video - made it quick AND enjoyable!

    I guess, the only thing I felt was missing from this video was why those types of fabric. I am trying to think like a beginner. I remember way back and going why can’t I use that fabric ? I did here you say cotton, linen and poly. All great choices!! As usual, Awesome job!!

    I am new at sewing....how did you get those squares from a yard of fabric? The fabric I got was wider at one end than at the other. :( Thanks!

    I have the Beacon Fabri-Tac. Can you still iron over that once you glue the folds?

    • @SewingReport
      @SewingReport  Před rokem

      Yes, you could iron over fabric containing that type of glue (no direct contact with the iron though!), but that's probably not going to be my 1st choice for this project. It doesn't wash out of the fabric like Elmer's Washable School Glue and it's pretty thick stuff.

    Can I use a regular foot to sew final edges or should I use a walking foot. 😊

    • @SewingReport
      @SewingReport  Před 3 lety

      Either one works but check out my recent walking foot video because I explain why I use it for most sewing projects.
