Cloth Napkins with Easy Mitered Corners | Beginner Sewing Project

- Why buy fancy cloth napkins when you can make your own? We're making simple napkins with easy mitered corners as part of the Learn to Sew in 2020 series. Napkins are a great beginner sewing project because they only require one square of fabric and stitching straight lines.
To make four 18.5 inch finished napkins, you'll need just shy of 1.5 yards of (44 inch wide) quilting cotton. If you want to make larger sizes, significantly more yardage is required as you'll only be able to fit one napkin on the width of fabric (WOF).
Make sure to pre-wash your fabric! Fabric recommendation: cotton or linen (woven)

Any suggestions for a good mechanical machine for sewing and quilting that wont break the bank.
I like how this was two lessons in one with both the napkins and how to do the corners. I also liked how you explained why you were doing the things you were doing, such as telling us the needle position and what effect each position had on the project. Thank you!
I've seen mitered corner tutorials in the past, and they were nowhere near this simple and easy. Thank you so much for this video - made it quick AND enjoyable!
I'm new to sewing and I'm so glad you show the stitch length and everything. It's so helpful! :)
Easy, easy, easy. Quick project for any level of sewing.
Thank you. I love this video. I'm new at sewing and embroidery. I want to make these for Christmas and embroider our initials in a Christmas wreath.
Excellent tutorial. Thank you so much!
Thank you for the glue basting tip. Never heard of it! I just used it on a big cotton baby blanket & it turned out great. Love mitered corners!
Very clear, easy to understand video. We only use cloth napkins.
Great video! I hope to gain enough confidence to do more than watch videos and turn my first machine on.
Great video, thanks Jen! Great gift idea. Love your way of mitering the corners.
great holiday gift or hostess gift! I use a double layer of fabric just in case of future food stains! Love your video, so helpful. Thanks for sharing this idea♥
Nice! Got some nice old beautiful cotton fabric I can use to sew these napkins for holiday gift.
Thank You!
I love your mitered corners!
I luv changing up my dining room table periodically & accessorizing is my specialty...the napkin video is quite helpful...thanks for sharing...!¡!

Wow! Great, easy to follow tutorial! Thank you so much!!!
Thanks for this -- it'll be my first beginner sewing project.
I loved the video, inspiring and easy to follow. Thank You so much!😍
Great video, thanks!
Good tips thanks
Love the video great for a house warming gift 😃
Excelente tutorial 👏👏👏
Good tip for the corners. Thanks. XXX 💖💝
I guess, the only thing I felt was missing from this video was why those types of fabric. I am trying to think like a beginner. I remember way back and going why can’t I use that fabric ? I did here you say cotton, linen and poly. All great choices!! As usual, Awesome job!!
Looking forward to these videos!
Would you do a video on making curtains?
Will consider it!
Great video what kind of glue you use for fabric?
I love your top. It's so feminine. I would enjoy making one for myself. Did you make it? What pattern did you use?
Do you do round and square tablecloth
What glue do you recommend?
I am new at sewing....how did you get those squares from a yard of fabric? The fabric I got was wider at one end than at the other. :( Thanks!
What glue do you use ?
Elmer's Washable School Glue
I have the Beacon Fabri-Tac. Can you still iron over that once you glue the folds?
Yes, you could iron over fabric containing that type of glue (no direct contact with the iron though!), but that's probably not going to be my 1st choice for this project. It doesn't wash out of the fabric like Elmer's Washable School Glue and it's pretty thick stuff.
Replay and thanks
Can I use a regular foot to sew final edges or should I use a walking foot. 😊
Either one works but check out my recent walking foot video because I explain why I use it for most sewing projects.
