Mob: debuff barrage
Wanderer: power down, gem steal, FREEZE
Franken: Heavy armor, tile lock, power up
Wolfman: powerup, powerdown, heal, bleed
Creature: plague, poison, life leech
Grim: powerdown, petrify, tile attacks
Wizard: freeze, burn, bleed
Mummy: petrify, powerdown
Dracula, Codex: everything
That's one hell of a book
Mummy could also letter rearrange. He and Codex are the only bosses in the game that can do that.
Also, Wanderer could tile smash, and Grim could freeze you while healing himself.
Without Medusa Bust or debuff removal potions, Grim could take away three of your turns and completely screw you over with Death's Visage + Soul Steal combo.
I hated Grim, lol. He was harder to fight than Codex.
Grim and the Mummy were really the only bosses in the game i struggled with. When running through the arena, the average boss length for me was around 45 seconds... except the mummy... which took 5 and a half minutes. I died on Dracula because i used all my potions. The power downs and tile smash really deplete the damage of a word to almost nothing in this game. Still a fun and challenging game.
Unpopular opinion: Frankenstein is condintionally the hardest to kill. First heavily armoured boss and has one of the biggest heals in the game (5+ hearts I think). He was so tough, especially when I was a kid and couldn't spell long enough words to break through him.
Use the parrot.
This, this song RIGHT HERE! This is EVERYTHING i love in one song. Booming drums, Sombre tone, An angelic choir! OOH! I absolutely love everything about it. Everything in this song is perfect to me.
Really sets the mood of staring death in the face.
Oh definitely, i'd say it's foreboding.
When your the last hope of defeating the boss battle. And when Justice is falling.
This has to be one of the best boss themes ever made
What you just described, it truly represents Gothic theme......
Codex: Any last words, gullible grub?
Lex: Actually, yes.
Hippopotomonstrosesquipedalian: Autological!
Lex: I've got just the one--
How I missed the adventure with Lex and his companions...
Umm, companions didn't exist until the second game... But yes, I do still love this game!
Autological's definition is a word that's meaning is self evident:
"Word" is a word
"Noun" is a noun
"Elongated" is longer than most words
Hippopotomonstrosesquipedalian's definition is "pertaining to long words"
Isn't that genius?
Yeah, I wish if they continue the game.... ;-;
@@chaoskiller6084 he mean't the nice people Lex encounter with his journey.
Cassandra, Circe, Hephaetsus, (The Queen in Book 2 who was narrating Lex), The dude who help lex sail from Spinx Riddle to that Roc Island thing(I wonder if he got eaten by Papa Roc though), Maladin but then he was evil all along, The Villagers on Book 3, Those 4 Fallen Heroes.
@@ms.yawhaw8831 Hang on, the queen narrates in book 2? Is this ever confirmed in game?
The 4 dislikes were Dracula, codex, wolf man and Grim lol
And of poor people who can't buy the xd game
lmao
I use to rage soo hard on them bosses
Ugh, those guys were the pain in the a**. I had to use a 100% of my brain to spell long words 🤓🤓🤓🤓💣💣💣💣🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯My brain IQ is gone😭😭😭☠️☠️
Boss review
Angry Mob : Medium. Their "Incite" ability that grants them power-boosts and healing at the same time, is the most annoying part when battling against them.
Eternal Wanderer : Hard. It's still the second chapter of the final book, but you must fight against a boss with 30 hearts? Sounds insane. His stupid gem steal is the most painful move when you fight this boss.
Frankenstein : Very Hard. Whenever he reaches about 10 hearts out of 20, this guy will heal, purify, and boost his attack in one move. Anagram solver is highly recommended when fighting against him, especially if you're the ones who don't have vocabularies in mind.
The Wolf Man : Easy. I found out, this guy alongside The Creature, are surprisingly, the easiest boss in the book. Just spell 7-8 words, this guy will return to sanity in 3-5 hits.
The Creature : Easy. Same like Wolf Man, but due to his Poison-immunity, killing this guy would take much time than i did against the Wolf Man.
Grim Reaper : Very Hard. This guy has two turn skipper abilities, Freeze and Petrify, and in addition of that, the power down ability that the boss have, could make things gonna worse. I recommended you all to pick Hercules Hand and Aegis Shield, because without these two, the battle against Grim would be a pain and potentially causing you all to commit rage quit.
Fallen Wizard Hero : Medium. His poison-majority moves are the most pain when fighting him plus he has ability to heal himself and immune to Freeze move which means, Lex cannot perform any turn skipper moves on this guy. Hercules Hand is highly recommended due to its ability to increase damage.
The Mummy : Medium. This guy has several tile-ailments based attack plus Petrify ability. Purify potions would be helpful in here. Fortunately, PopCap showed mercy to us, this guy does not have beneficial abilities that would boost attack or even purify itself, though this guy can heal itself and petrify you in one move . Simply form 7-9 words, and this guy will be a history in 4-5 hits.
Dracula : Very Hard. The penultimate boss before Codex. Dracula has healing, boost attacks, power down and purify in one move, and to make things worse, he also armed himself with Gem Steal ability that will steal some of your precious Gems. Once again, you may need a help from Anagram Solver to beat him.
Codex : Insanely hard, since before the fight with him, you also need to take down all of his four summoned monsters (Cerberus, Medusa, Shaitan, The Wolf Man), and all of this efforts would take majority of your resources and it should be noted that the battle against Codex is labelled as "Survival Battle", which means, whenever you beat an opponent, you won't get purify and as a result, it will leaving some ailments status that Lex had suffered from the last enemy he fought. Use Anagram Solver + Hercules Hand + Wooden Parrot + Aegis Shield to take him down. Beating him will end the game.
BUt The Mummy has Embalm, which petrifies you and heals itself
I don’t know why you’d use an anagram solver. Ruins the fun of the game
@@genericname4168 i knew it buddy, it would ruin this beautiful game, however there are many players who find their sanity lost after fighting against certain bosses such as Frankenstein, Grim, Dracula or Codex in this book, so why don't i simply recommend them an easier way to gain a "consolation" victory?
Fair enough. Personally I just replayed this game and can safely say it’s not very hard
I hope Popcap makes another Bookworm adventures game
yes he did it
Well, sorry to disappoint, but PopCap discontinued the Bookworm series back in 2016, seeing it as "unprofitable". So this is all we have...
Bookworm Adventures Deluxe and Bookworm Adventures 2 is all we have unfortunately 😭
**cough** EA...
Fucking EA
I really love this music,it really fits with the classical monsters book!
“So how are we gonna design Codex’s boss fight and moveset?”
“Specializes in tile debuffs?”
“Uses his pen to debuff you?”
“Fuck it, just make him do everything!”
Seriously, though
-Heal, power up, and power down in one move
-All three damage over time effects
-Two tile effects and gem steal in one move
-Freeze
-Immune to 3 and 4 letter words
That man was loaded
Don't forget Purify. He heals, purifies, powers up himself and powers you down in one attack.
@@Magicwaterz I just watched footage of his boss fight and Power Surge actually didn't purify him. Probably because he'd be super unbalanced if he was virtually immune to status effects with all the other stuff he has
This sounds intimidating, until you realise that your attack power is through the roof by this point in the game. Seriously, with the right treasure setup, half of the enemies become an utter joke due to your insane damage output. It's not too hard to kill enemies in one hit.
The only things he didn't have himself were paralysis/stun, tile lock, and letter jumble.
Codex is still no match if you compare him with The machine from sequel.
Tbh in my opninion this game needs more attention.
Descendant Gaming do you know the original song name?

That moment where I struggled so much with Dracula and Codex and then I see a video of a guy beating them in like 2 words!

Damn lex i was expecting a lot of furious on your heart but i guess you're just a worm. Kinda make sense
Nah that was a "I'm completely shocked but I'm not gonna give you the satisfaction".
Plus he was really mad during the final attack considering he always smiles even in dangerous situations
Best Music for Bookworm Adventures Vol. 1 but It would be better if there's a Remix of it.
How?
It would be best if I can dance this xD
The music already sounds great but it would really benefit from real instruments.
Especially book 4's theme.
Oh how nostálgic to the werewolf 😈
This theme mashup with Xana theme from Code Lyoko would be pure epic and awesome🔥
here,i created a mashup video of Xana's Theme from Code Lyoko and this music. Hope you enjoy it! :)
Good music, good game.
Felt really bad for the Wolf-man. All he ever wanted was to get freed from the curse.
Hardest Bosses in entire of Bookworm Adventure series
1. The Machine (all-three phases)
2. Frankenstein
3. Codex
4. The Grim
5. Bull Demon King
6. Dragon King
7. Elder Tiger Demon
8. The Great Radiape
9. Lady Summer-Speak
10. Butterfly
11. Shaitan from Book 2 Chapter 9
I’m surprised you found the elder tiger demon that hard. Maybe it was just dumb luck but I found him to be quite easy
Everything else I agree with
i feel like lady summer-speak should be much higher, her damage output is insane.
@@nexalusthegreat1630 only if she powered-up her giga-fist attack, otherwise, that giga-fist only takes 1 full-heart per attack.
@@zeubermensch4050 are you mad that shtick was easy. He has 20 hearts. Twisted vizier was way harder. I reckon he was harder than Frankenstein
Best tune I have ever heard

Melmoth's the name, Eternal Wanderin's the game!
That's book 3 chapter 1's boss, isn't it?
@@chaoskiller6084 Actually Book 3, Chapter 2. The boss in Chapter 1 is The Mob.
@@HumanChorionicGonadotropin Ah, I see.. I'm more of a fan of 2 myself
Here's a quick tip: Never make a deal with the Devil
Anyone else here who absolutely HATED fighting Frankenstein? I certainly did.
at first yes, he do his dirty trick when the 2nd row of health
was damaged, so absolutely annoying, but im not annoyed to it anymore
i killed it in Arena 2 times, Finished the Adventure 4 times soo...
just a piece of cake now
btw im playing my 5th right now
Him healing eight hearts didn’t make it easy…
Yeah, but the hardest challenge in the game for me was Dracula. More than the final boss (which is second tho...)
The man is back.
:D
Angry Mob, Frankenstein, Wolfman, The Creature, Dracula, Codex😱😱
Grim in another level... 💀💀💀💀
Honestly
I fucking hate Frankestein
Especially with those goddamn heals, powerups, and tile locks. It pissed me tf out since I was a kid. Took my elementary-ass weeks to finish a single boss. I've repeatedly beaten those spiders, dogs, two headed idfk. But yeah Dracula and Codex we're also hard af.
That long word tho XD
Codex:NANI (What)
Lex:Kamehameha!!!!!!
Codex:Nooooooo!!!!!!!!
*Drops magic pen*
The end
Imagine hearing this at 3am
"come no further. bookworm. You have been deceived. I am not your enemy."
He really wasn’t.
got tricked by Maladin, learned
was lied by Grim, get depressed
fought the warriors, gets confident
all this just to get betrayed by his mentor lmao
I was playing the game with my mom and told her Codex was the final boss as soon as he appeared after defeating Dracula, only realizing later the boss fight started in a separate level 💀💀
Luckily she didn't care much
Doing the Book 3 Boss, Daisy Duck, Muffet and Lex battles Angry Mob, Eternal Wanderer, Frankenstein, (also known as "Pumpkin Frankenstein") The Wolf Man, The Creature, (also known as Fictional creature like Muffet, And Shyren) Grim, Fallen Wizard Hero, The Mummy, Dracula (also known as Jackula from "Something
About MUFFET and Simon Belmont in Castlevania Animated") And Professor Codex.
Professor Codex as the main villain is by far the biggest plot twist in the entire PopCap Games
Ah yes the boss battle theme that terrified me as a kid. Especially during Frankenstaein
i thought it was the coolest shit ever, especially when it played during codex's fight (i didnt know he was gonna be the bad guy). never occurred to me that it could be scary, oof.
@@nexalusthegreat1630 This song is cooler when fighting Codex imo. It adds to anxiety even more than it did with world 3 bosses.
Codex was clever tho. If I was in Lex's situation when he finally found Dracula I would've done exact same thing as him. Dracula is a big scary monster (or vampire if you want), why should I belive him and leave my "trusty" friend?
I love how he didn't even try to stop Dracula because he knew how Lex was gonna react.
The only thing I don't understand is why he wanted Cassandra especifically...
If it's explained in vol. 2, please don't spoiler. I'm just starting the game now.
Eternal Wanderer, Grim, and Fallen Wizard Hero...their skills are so annoying.
@@IgorSalaj3578 My purify, power up, and healing potion there was little left when I fought Fallen Wizard Hero. So I couldn't avoid the combo of freeze-effect + bleed from his Frost Shards skill, Poison from his Leeching Cloud skill, and Burn effect from his Pillar of Fire skill. I don't expect he has Stun Effect too 😭
I found Frankenstein to be worse and honestly consider him harder than Codex. He has the highest damage resistance in the game in addition to the strongest heal (believe it was 7 hearts). That fucker healed every. Single. Time I got close to killing him.
At least Wanderer Grim and Wizard can be mostly negated with purify potions.
Also if you hate stuns just pack boots of theseus in every chapter. I almost never stopped using those
This is the real hotel Transylvania theme!
book 3 has the best boss battle OST's in the game
Fantastic boss music ever, it would be best If I can dance this xD
Are you listening to this repeatedly? Everyday?
Anyone else thought Codex was a complete pushover? 3-4 letter immunity meant that players are forced to do high damage to him. Not only that, unlike every boss from Chapter 19 onwards, he isn't armoured or heavily armoured, which results in players being able to do even more damage. Honestly, I was let down by how easy he was compared to every boss that came before him in Book 3.
He also, contrary to all other enemies in book 3, does not purify status effects while healing, so you can stack burns and poison on him if you’re struggling
i agree, he dies way too fast. his main threat is giving you a crap ton of status affects but thats solved with 1 potion. at least the machine put up a way better fight.
Two-shotting him was very satisfying though
I think his power is indeed strenght and not defense like any other boss.
Also remember that the goal of the game, at the end of the day, is to make us spell words, so 3-4 letter immunity makes sense because we're forced to think of big words.
Considering how high Lex's defense is, it's pretty impressive how much damage Codex does to him tho.
@@vittosphonecollection57289 While I do understand that making Codex squishier may underwhelm from a gameplay perspective, In-Universe, it actually does make sense considering the fragility of Codex relative to someone like Frankenstein who is heavily armored. The former is a freaking bird with hollow bones and feathers VS a literal monster with thick skin and better defended vitals.
Me immediately knowing that Codex was behind all this
7-year-old me: I KNEW IT!
I already knew it because I had already seen the videos (YT reccomandation isn't the best when you don't wanna be spoiled on stories), but it was still epic because I didn't know how he betrayed Lex! So it was still kind of a half plot twist to me.
They dont make games like this anymore...
